Email Security with Cisco IronPort (Networking Technology: Security)

Must have if working with ESA.

I have been working with the ESA and teaching its use for Ironport and then Cisco for about 7 years. this book it an outstanding reference tool. It is written by an original Ironport SE, a group of people who's talent is harder and harder to find. I would recommend this book for any intermediate to expert level user trying to round out their Knowledge or a a supplement to the config guides as a well written in depth look at how the software really works written by an experienced, skilled security engineer who was there at the beginning and really knows how this works and was meant to be deployed

A nice book with practical examples. If you don't have time to read complete IronPort manuals - this book for you.

This is a good book. It has alot of information in it. But, its like reading the manuals that ironport provides for free. Thought there would be more hidden commands in it. It is good as a reference though.

Whether you are looking for the complete guide to read cover to cover or you just want the most comprehensive reference book at your finger tips, this book was designed with you in mind. The author takes you through everything you need to know in order to setup the ESA and even if you already have one setup, you may just find some additional useful tips and tricks (ie. hidden/undocumented commands). Unlike most technical reference manuals that just tell you what options are available, the author has taken the time to provide insight into how the options and features effect the functionality of the configuration. Not only has the author provided a comprehensive manual for the ESA itself but also great insight for anyone wanting more information on email security in general.If you are giving any thought at all to adding an ESA to your security arsenal, you would be well advised to add this book to your reference library.

This was my first foray into an e-mail security book. I don't have much experience with IronPort and it was interesting to get more information on the topic. I like how the author provided context to the configurations instead of simply telling us "choose a number between 1 - 5000 connections". The necessary topics were certainly covered going all the from from the physical layout of the device, accessing the device, explaining capabilities and covering advanced networking and topics. Before reading this book I did not know about reputation scores or rate limits, so this book has broadened my e-mail security horizons. Highly recommended for someone looking at getting an IronPort or looking for help with one they have.

Whilst getting a bit old this book was a good overview to platform and offered a number of real world insights not covered in the official admin guides.After reading this book, recommend reading the reference guide from Cisco to account for changes in the recent ESA versions. Much of this book will still be relevant however.
