Easy, intuitive looping? I didn’t think it was a thing, either — until now.
TL;DR — Fun and easy; solid UI; no issues with sound quality. Very strong contender if you’re in the market for a brass tacks looper. I’d like to think I’m smarter than the average bear, but there’s no better way for me to feel lost than to hand me a looping pedal. Ever since a studio guitarist friend blew me away years ago with the possibilities of a Line 6 JM4, I’ve been looking for something that could unlock new song ideas while not requiring me to take a class at the local JC. Enter the Donner Triple Looper. It delivers on its promise: three slots into which you can easily overdub to your hearts content. Select a slot, click the footswitch and you’re recording. Click when you’ve finished your phrase. Click again to dub. Rinse and repeat as desired. (Please note, however, that the slots remain independent. That is, you could have 3 recordings in each of the slots, but you can’t dub, bounce or otherwise move the content from Slot 1 into Slot 3, for example. I really wasn’t expecting to, but with a name like the Triple Looper, some may think that might be in the cards. It’s not.) Deleting a dub and clearing a slot are accomplished via footswitch “click and hold” operations. Easy peasy. (Sidenote: The action of the footswitch is outstanding: not too stiff, not too loose.) There’s also a playback volume knob, offering another layer of sculpting possibilities. Perhaps most importantly, I didn’t hear any discernible clicks or pops when the loop began to repeat. I currently own another looper than cost twice the current price of the Triple Looper, and it pops audibly when engaging the footswitch to record a dub. Indeed, the only time I heard any pop at all is when I “cleared” a slot (which is the same thing as deleting all recorded material from a slot). It was slight, and that was when distortion pedals were engaged. When they were off, I didn’t hear the pop. I also didn’t hear any pops when starting playback, dubbing or stopping playback. As such, I’d give it the thumbs up to use in a live setting. The user interface is great. The display is not too bright or dim, and it includes a segmented “ring” that lets you know where you are in the course of loop playback. Something of a “visual metronome,” I imagine it’s handy for practicing. With a metal enclosure, the build quality of the unit seems solid. I only own one other Donner unit (the Yellow Fall, which every guitar player on a budget is contractually obligated to own), but Donner seems interested in creating durable pedals. The Triple Looper is, interestingly, lighter than Yellow Fall. Not sure why I find that surprising. Finally, I want to point out that the included instructions are easy to follow and actually make sense. I feel like it’s worth mentioning, as I’ve received some electronics items from Chinese manufacturers/distributors that included “instructions” that were laughably indecipherable. Not the case here. Check out the video for a quick demo to show the unit in action. (Careful listeners will hear a “new mail” notification in the background. Total amateur hour.)

Best looper for the money
Awesome little looper! I have 3 looper pedals that I use and have tried a handful of different models and must say this is definitely the most value for the money! Awesome little pedal. For this price point the fact that it has 3 tracks that are able to be saved when the pedal turns off, unlimited overdubs for 3 30 minute tracks, and screen that indicates the time/mode/etc are phenomenal! If you're on a budget and looking for a simple, easy to use looper that has some nice features but doesn't get too complex or extreme then definitely check this out! The only negative is that I feel the Boss looper pedals have a little bit better sound retention overall. The donner isn't bad, but my signal is a little bit quieter after being looped with the donner compared to Boss loopers which from what I hear don't reduce the signal at all (I've used several Boss loopers and own two and they all have the same great sound quality). In the end the donner has a level adjustment so you're able to turn the level up and down to get it to whatever level you need, but it just looses a tiny bit of fullness from what I hear. For getting into looping this pedal can't be beat. For a professional musician with a little bit bigger budget I'd probably recommend the Boss RC-2 (no longer made so have to buy used) or RC-3.

Sounds AWESOME!
I really enjoyed using the looper pedal by Donner. Once again this brand delivers an excellent product at an extremely low price point! The controls are very easy to use, though I did notice a slight difference in sound quality when being played back through my amp, not too bad though. I removed a star because I noticed another persons pre recordings were saved to the device but that’s hardly a complaint. I would definitely buy again!

Lower Priced Looper with Memory Banks
Loopers are helpful devices to create an accompaniment track or for just plain old practice. This Donner looper has employed an LCD screen that shows you the time and progress of your loop. It also has three (3) memory banks to save loops. This comes in a small package as do many of the FX pedal offerings these days. This pedal functions quite the same as most loopers such as hit the footswitch one to start the record process, hit once again to play, hit twice and hold to clear. If you have recorded a loop and then wish to record additional parts hit the footswitch once in the play mode and you can dub additional parts. I believe the manual states 30 minutes of record time but I think that must be approximately 10 minutes per memory bank, all totaling 30 minutes. As with most loopers in this price range the functions are similar however the difficulty comes when your loops are not in time, particularly if you are trying to get other players to play along with your loops. Timing your loops takes practice, the progress screen on this Donner looper is helpful but not fool proof. In a practice room setting the looper can be a lot of fun and helpful to work out what one might play over a particular line or chord sequence you have created. I would not necessarily recommend this in a professional situation unless you have prepared your loops ahead of time and will be playing along to the prepared loops. Timing can be critical using loopers however for simply recording and trying out ideas I think this is an affordable and fun unit. In my upcoming video demo I will attempt to demonstrate. With the influx of inexpensive FX units of all kinds a musician can sample devices and sounds without spending too much of their hard earned money. All that said this unit works well and is a winner in my book. In my demonstration video it is difficult to see what is happening on the LCD screen as I change from one mode to the other, for that I apologize. There are many other good videos that may illustrate how the LCD screen corresponds to the footswitch being changed. The manual explains these functions as well.

Genial!

Klein viel Aufnahmezeit, 3 verschiedene Aufnahmen möglich mit Schalter perfekt umschaltbar. Super Klang.

Having toyed with the idea of owning a looper pedal for the longest of times, I finally decided to take the plunge. There are so many loopers out there on the marketplace; all with varying degrees of sophistication and of course, prices to match. The ones I’d seen and read about had loop maximums of 30 or 40 seconds, some slightly more, some less, and then I came across the Donner Triple Looper. The Donner Looper is about as simple to operate as they get, but what really had me hook, line and sinker, was that, not only did it have three separate recording banks (hence the ‘Triple Looper’) but boasted of unlimited overdubs. With these credentials, and given what I’d gleaned from the specs of other pedals, I was genuinely expecting something in the region of 100 quid. Well, not a bit of it, this wee beauty tips the scales at a penny under 56 quid and I reckoned I’d have been insane not to grab this looper – and so I did. Power to this pedal is via a 9 volt power supply which is not included in the purchase, but bear in mind that, apart from the low cost of this looper, if you have other pedals then the chances are you already have the power pack and your other pedals are daisy chained together. This is a true bypass pedal so that when the pedal is off (bypass mode), the signal from the guitar is routed directly to the amp without interference. It is also a very small pedal which in no way detracts from its capabilities as a looper although some might feel, because of its size, that the bank selector switch and the volume output control, are a bit on the tiny side. Me? I just think they’re perfect. As small as it is, the screen is very readable and definitely bright enough to see even in the dimmest of venues. Entire control of the looper is down to the solitary footswitch and works as follows; Stomp: 1st Starts loop record 2nd Plays loop 3rd Records overdub 4th Plays loop By repeating steps three and four you can build up an unlimited amount of overdubs and by applying two rapid clicks you will stop the loop playing, one more click starts the loop playing again. If during an overdub you should make a mistake, you can undo that overdub by clicking once whilst in play mode and the screen will read ‘UNDO’, if you change your mind and want to reinstate that overdub press the switch one more time and the screen will read ‘REDO’, but remember you must be in play mode for this to happen. If you intend to completely clear out all overdubs from a track you must stop the looper, hold down the switch for 2-3 seconds and the screen should then read ‘EMPTY’. Travelling around the circumference of the small screen, during playback and overdub, an animated indicator shows you where the loop starts and where it ends. This adds greatly to the accuracy when laying one track on top of another. On any one of the three tracks, which you can select from using the right hand switch, you can have a recording time of thirty minutes, giving you a total of 90 minutes. This is incredible specs for a 56 quid looper especially once you’ve heard the clarity with which this pedal reproduces your sounds. In summary, this looping game takes a fair bit of practice and I’m getting there, although I don’t think I’ll be showing off my skills with the pedal on stage anytime soon. I’ve been playing guitar as my main instrument for half a century and it’s been a long time since I’ve had this much fun with a pedal. Go get one, you know it makes sense. Recommended.
