Compact size, very ergonomic, lot's of fun!
Just got my 3Doodler 2.0 and I was immediately impressed by its size. I was one of the early adopters of the 1.0 version and the 2.0 is amazingly thinner and a little shorter. The 3Doodler 2.0 is probably the size of a fat Sharpie marker. All this contributes to a better handling of the pen, as it fits in my hand very naturally now, very much like a pen. When I first used it, I used my thumb to press the buttons, but then I looked at the packaging and realized I should be using my index finger instead. Using the index finger made the 3 Doodler sit in my hand more ergonomically. The best new feature of 3Doodler 2.0 is the continuous flow of the plastic “ink”. By double pressing the high flow or the low flow buttons, the pen will continuously extrude the plastic and just one press will stop it. I found this feature to be very helpful when I am building a figure with cylindrical coils, like the legs of a robot. With the continuous flow, I was able to focus more on the positioning of the tip and where I needed the plastic to flow and/or adhere to. The 3Doodler 2.0 appears to be a little more quiet than the first version, but not to say that the current fan sound is that loud. After all, it does require a fan to cool off, so there will be some sound. No louder than your laptop’s fan running, I think. The box came with two packs of plastic in various colors and cleaning tools, just like the original. There is a quick start guide and a more detailed owners manual as well. One advice, be sure you have the temperature on the correct hi or lo setting for the corresponding plastic you are using. So do read the quick start guide! The power cable is about 6 feet long and I thought that was enough length for me. I usually play with my 3Doodler on the kitchen island, so there is an outlet right on the side. If you don’t have a lot of outlets in your home, then you may need an extension cord, but I just read online that there is a JetPack now. It’s pretty much a battery pack that allows you to be more mobile with your 3Doodler, kind of like a battery pack for your mobile phone when you’re on the go. Overall, I’m very happy with my 3Doodler 2.0. I ordered from Amazon and it was delivered on time. The only thing I need to do is be more creative, haha. Maybe I’ll download some of the stencils from the website. Or maybe just watch what my nieces and nephews will create. I would advise on having adult supervision when children are using it. The tip is quite hot, so I would not recommend children younger than 8 years old to play with it. Hope this review helps you future 3Doodlers! It’s really a lot of fun.

Worst Experience Ever Returned Twice!
Worst Purchase Ever!!! I had to return the item twice and prefer to keep my $99. It always got stuck after the first try. it will work for a couple minutes and then stop working from the sudden. it will actually get hot and everything but neither the ABS or PLA will come out. you will have to push from the end that is out and still not manage to work it easily. I don't recommend it at all at least from my experience after returning two items with the same issue.

My 3Doodles really took off! #BadPuns
While there is certainly a learning curve, with a little patience, even I - someone with a dearth of talent when it comes to visual arts - quickly started churning out Doodles that far exceeded my expectations (see DOODLEPLANE!!). There's a plethora of stencils available on their website that walk you through a lot of the designs you see in their marketing materials so, even for the noobs like me, if you can trace you can 3Doodle. In terms of support, I had one small issue surrounding the removal of the maintenance cover, and unlike the experiences of many, my problem was resolved in hours, not days. Through that discussion with the support staff I was also informed that up until only recently, many if not all vendors distributing 3Doodlers on Amazon were unauthorised resellers which may account for the high rate of defects and/or reports of inattentive customer service. So, take that for what it's worth. The plastic can get a little pricey depending on how large (and often) you Doodle and I have had a few fleeting instances with inconsistent flow speed, but neither are show-stoppers and therefore, IMO, the 3Doodler is clearly succeeding where so many other 3D pens have failed. Note: I saw they started selling tubes of 100 strands which at $24.99 give you considerably more bang for your buck. All in all, it's a solid, fun product that I'm sure will only improve over time but if you're going to purchase one, ensure you buy it from 3Doodler, not a third party.

A wonderful product, probably my favorite gadget, but mechanism is quite flawed.
I bought this product through the kickstarter program as soon as I found out that it existed. I even ended up buying another one through Amazon since I wanted to gift this product. I was very excited to give it a go and my first strand was a successful one. As soon as I put in the second one, I got the same issue most people are having; the strand would load but after about 2 inches of doodling nothing would happen. I tried several colors and materials and nothing seemed to make it work again. I had to return the one I bought from amazon and fortunately the one I bought on kickstarter worked enough that I was able to complete one of my projects that used about 15 strands. Now that I began working on a new project, it seems that I am getting the same issue. I LOVE this product, it is truly amazing but the 3-star review is considering that I have had issues with both of the pens that I bought. In fact, within the project that I ended up completing, I always had to open the lid, throw away about an inch of strand and then start with the new one. I was never able to use the full strand. It does work as advertised and if one day these issues are resolved, this is a MUST buy for all of those who are interested.

Thank God I ordered it from AMAZON and refund was easy!
Should have paid attention to the 57% 1 STAR RATING!! I have the V1.0 pen and love it. Was teaching a kids' tech art class and wanted a 2nd pen for them to tinker with. The 1.0 still works after a year. I get this 2.0 thinking it will be even better. I read the manual to see what's changed, make sure there's nothing the kids really need to know. Couple of changes and nicer packaging. I happily plug it in, get the ABS Blue light to signal it's ready, I put the filament until it "clicks" (that's new), I wait for 30 seconds (hmm, motor sounds different...), I wait for 2 minutes with it running and nothing happening (uh, lets review the manual...), check everything twice, take the tip off (what in the HELL could be smoking?!), give it a gentle twist as manual recommends, give harder push- NOTHING. Nothing but the strange sound of poorly manufactured product. "Okay kids, this happens sometimes. We got a lemon, I'll call Amazon." Kids learned all about how nice Amazon customer service is, and Amazon learns of my camp and ships me a replacement with free overnight shipping. Excellent. I get the replacement today and get to REPEAT THE WHOLE PROCESS with a new pen! This time, I'm convinced it must be me. I follow the directions to take out the impossible metal clip to see that 3Doodler didn't think a couple things through- 1. The motor may not be strong enough for the screw style gripping gear. 2. The filament may not be pressed close enough for the screw gear to actually grip. 3. The heating element is sporadic in the time it takes to properly heat. 4. The internet is full of people who will create detailed reviews if products are not up to par or expectation based on advertisement. So my annoyed little brain starts googling. And my issues appear to be common. They have sold this pen with it's poor quality to others, and then forced them to do things like wait months or create videos to PROVE it's not just jamming to get a replacement or money back. Thank god I ordered through Amazon and got to skip that mess. I wish there was a button to recommend Amazon no longer sell a product. From the reviews, I say you got a 50/50 shot of getting a 2.0 pen that works properly and would be better off buying a 1.0. I will personally NEVER buy a 3Doodler product again.

Great after you get it working properly
So first I want to point out why it's not five stars. I took one star off because of two reasons. First, the pen does not come with a battery pack, but instead must be plugged in to use. Come on guys include the battery pack with it, that really set in me in a bad mood with your device from the get go. The second reason is that it seems like the pens needs a few days to get all the parts set to work properly. Almost like they need to be run through the motions before they work properly with each other. For the first two days some of the PLA and ABS would melt and work fine, but other colors would not. The tip would not heat up the plastic enough for it to extrude all the way before solidifying and cause plugs. Also, the motor would not extrude consistently and I would have to push forcefully to get it to come out, and even then it just wouldn't extrude it on its own. So I would shut the pen off and let it be for a couple of hours and try again with various results. Really frustrating because the instruction manual is very vague and unhelpful. Fortunately for whoever made this I have a Mendell90 3D printer at work, which is a build it yourself 3D printer from the UK, so I figured it needed some runs to get working properly. Well three days later, after using it a few times each day, the pen started working perfectly as soon it would start. I even left the PLA/ABS in the pen without backing it out and started it up hours later when the pen was unplugged and fully cooled and it heated it right up and started extruding. Since then it has worked magnificently and I really like how it operates as well. I have to give kudos to the pen maker for the two speeds, plus the continuous mode, that you can extrude at and the temperature adjuster. Those are really important for this kind of item as you progress with the pen you can set it up differently depending on what you're doing. The speeds are especially nice because they are actually noticeable in their relative speed, and then of course double tapping either one will set it in continuous mode which is indispensable. Just a tip if anyone cares to know about how to get it going a little easier. Plug it in when you get it and wait a few minutes for it to truly heat up all the way. Run a few strands of PLA and ABS through it and see if you have any issues. If you do have issues with it first turn the temperature all the way up and see if it starts to extrude. There is a little screw driver tool that comes with it. Read the instruction on where the screw adjustment is, it's easy to adjust. If that doesn't work then push the PLA/ABS strand down until it starts extruding and then let go and see if it continues. If that doesn't work then turn it off for a while until it fully cools down and try again later. As I stated in this review it took three days for it to start working properly every time I turned it on. Hope this helps All in all I'd recommend this guy for less than $90.00 as the PLA/ABS is really expensive and you'll need to buy more packs often. Also because it does not come with a battery pack and the charging cable comes out of the top and can be annoying.

Amazing creative tool
I was a backer of the original and the 2.0 on kickstarter. I had an issue with the original and when I contacted the company I had one of the inventors helping me through fixing it! (That's a small company!) It was easily fixed and still works to this day, even after a lot of use. My 2.0 has also been used a ton (and though I still use my original from time to time the new one is a crazy upgrade in every way!)and any time I've had a problem I've been able to find an answer on their website. I understand a lot of people have had issues with theirs, mine works great and I'm buying this one for my brother who is an awesome artist and made something amazing the first time he used mine. It is not EASY to use. Like anything worth doing it takes practice and patience. I love just creating things on my own, but the website does have a ton of stuff that if you can trace you can make some great looking stuff and even useful stuff. I get the feeling a lot of the people who've said bad things gave up quickly and haven't looked very far into the helpful content they provide. Who knows. If this new one has any issues I'll be sure to update this review. All in all the 3doodler is an amazing creative tool that has lead me to developing all sorts of new skills and thinking about making things in a new way. Got the new pen and my brother loves it and hasn't had any issues with it.

Work good when it is working but very unreliable.
Pen won't advance the plastic filament after only a few uses and I've trying to contact 3Doodler's customer service dept. to get an RMA so that I can return the pen for service twice via email and online form but both still no responses after two weeks. These pens are fun when they are working but I can see lots of reliability issues as the service trap door is held tight by plastic and once they wear out or give way, the filament path won't be tight enough for the worm gear to grab and advance the filament, and then render the pen pretty much useless. Don't buy it.
