SRAM X4 Trigger Front Only

Good quality, easy install. If you're really concerned about aesthetics, this has a horizontal gear indicator display. I used it to replace an X5 shifter, which has a vertical gear indicator display. Personally I think the mismatch looks kind of cool. In terms of durability and function, it works quite well, good value for the price.

Replaced an older, damaged SRAM front derailleur shift lever with this shifter. Only took a few minutes to install in the existing lever’s location on the bar, connected the cable to the derailleur, made a few tweaks to the derailleur and I was basically done. The bicycle was fully functional again within 30-45mins., from installation to final adjustments. I like that both shifting changes (up and down the chainring) are a push/push operation rather than a push/pull as on the previous shift lever.

It was relatively easy to replace - it comes with the cable so I just threaded it through my old cable housing - and it was no problem. It shifts very well - I only had to adjust the HI-LO limiter screws. I'm satisfied so far - have rode it so far two trips of 22 and 24 miles and no problems.

Perfect replacement for an old stripped out SX-4 on a friend's 17 year old Diamondback. The hardest part of the job was getting the hand grip off. In hindsight I should have cut it off and put on new ones, but with some hot water and some aggressive twisting I finally got it done. After installing all it took was a few turns of the barrel adjuster to obtain perfect shifting up and down.

Works great. Broke the left shifter during my mountain to road conversion abomination. Glad I was able to go on Amazon and get an exact replacement. For anyone curious, this comes with shifter cable pre-installed. Just as pictured, for a SRAM X4 model on a Diamondback Sports Response bike, FRONT derailleur, 3-Speed, left hand switch only! (Ad wrongly states "8 speed for left hand only." Somebody erred, which will cause dissatisfaction and needless returns.) It is the trigger switch, w/ handlebar mounting screw, and the inner wire - not the outer cable housing - use your old one. To remove the old cable, you must cut the tiny, aluminum bike cable ferrule off the end of the cable, pulling it out of the housing from the front. Slide the new cable into the old cable housing, determine about how long it needs to be - cut the new cable, and since it didn't include a new cable 3 cent ferrule, get one at a bike shop when you can, to keep the wire end from fraying and poking people. I used a small clevis pin, squeezed w/ pliers. Test shifting.

This shifter I guess is newer then the old X.4 I had. Anyway, the indicator is easier to read on this with a red bar to show which gear you are in and white numbering. Installation was pretty easy, took some tuning, but otherwise works great. COMES WITH A CABLE that is installed so all you have to do is run the cable through your cable housing and to your derailleur.

This is a direct replacement for the Sram left shifter on my low end fat bike. Though it can be used for a bike with three chain rings in front it works well on my bike which has two chain rings. It has a little window that has the numbers 1,2 and 3 on it which to some might be quite handy but others may view it as a sure indication of a novice rider. This type of shifter is configured as a push-push which means shifting up or down requires a push of the thumb. This shifter comes complete with the shift wire installed (no housing). This is a good thing because I was in the process of replacing the shift wire in the old shifter and the moment I opened the shifter the internals flew out instantly rendering it useless. Its not the first time I've had this type of user unfriendly shifter before and I tossed it directly into the garbage and ordered another. At only $15 it saved a lot of grief for a little money. Just be aware that changing a shift wire can result in total replacement. Using the shifter revealed it works as intended. I'm not sure I would recommend it to a friend though.
