Gladiators 1st Century A.D. (Set 2) - 1:32 Plastic Kit by Pegasus Hobbies

My 7-year old is obsessed with ancient romans and gladiators after we attended an actual arena fight in France (Puy de Fou!). Since that, he has been asking me for toy soldier Romans and gladiators in particular. Around his age I was perfectly happy with my 1/72 scale WW2 plastic soldier armies. He however has loads of cheap Chinese plastic soldiers that are large and he insists the Roman soldiers have to be of the same size otherwise he can’t play with it properly.. . 1/32 scale plastic soldiers are available. But rare. Ancient Roman sets are even rarer. I’ve found some Hat and Italieri sets that are nice enough and good for play. However Pegasus offers two 1/32 gladiatorial sets that look quite attractive.As always with 1/32 only a few figures are included, 10 to be precise in this set. The diversity of figures and poses is very good, even 2 midgets are included and a female fighter. The figures are extremely well proportioned and detailed. Also there is barely any flash. The way the figures are posed is quite spectacular and life-like. There are no duplicate figures in this set. The pink plastic is of a hard type and each figure comes supplied with a brown rectangular base made of polystyrene. This a high quality set with very good figures.Now the problem for my purpose is that each figure has to be glued together (the arms) and that the weapons and shields have to be glued as well. This is great for the detail, but makes the figures not really suitable for play and my young son’s intentions. He will still be very pleased and impressed by it. And he wouldn’t mind using them for decoration mostly.Also, I’m quite a good craft modeller - one of the few things in life i’m really good at is painting figures…. So I suspect I may have taken on a new project and will get these figures properly painted sooner or later, perhaps with my son’s help. In fact I can’t wait.
