The Musketeers: Season 2

The best out of the three. Gorgeous men.

A delightful mix of the original, mild historical fantasy, and excellent acting, writing, and directing. At least as good as the Richard Chamberlain, Oliver Reed, Michael York, Frank Finlay, Raquel Welch, Charlton Heston, and Faye Dunaway production of the 1970s—but very different.

This show is one of those shows that is just great fun to watch. It has comedy, romance, a bit of drama and plenty of action. The violence is not graphic nor bloody. It reminds me a lot of the swash buckler movies of years ago with the likes of Don Ameche and Gene Kelley. As a young kid I thoroughly enjoyed these types of movies. The young actors in this version are very talented and portray the characters with great aplomb. There are serious dramatic moments but these situations are usually resolved in favor of the good guys. If you want to watch a show that will entertain you for about an hour and you are willing to forego reality this is the show for you. I highly recommend both seasons.

I find with all of these serial shows, it takes the first year to establish the story line, and for the actors to develop their characters, which appears to have happened here. One thing that irks me about this series, is the inattention to the detail of the clothing of the Musketeers, which is obviously more functional than if they were to be wearing reproduction period clothing, that may in reality, be as hazardous in the action scenes to the actors (who perhaps have been raised wearing speedos), as appearing in the court of the french Monarch wearing their de rigeur 'barn cleaning attire'. It wouldn't have happened. Also, their manners were not in keeping with who they were supposed to be, and in reality, would have resulted in their consequent tortures and / or execution, for their effortless attitudes of impertinence and insubordination, that would have been acceptable in a tavern scene, but probably may have been deemed treasonous in the presence of the real King Louis. The cinematography was sumptuous, apparently all having been 'Photo-Shopped' and in HD, with many of the sets being in palaces in the Czech Republic which were beautiful,although not as opulent as were the courts and palaces of Louis XIV, synergized with the producer's penchant for using light pastel colouring for the clothing of the aristocrats, especially the ladies of royalty and nobility. I found that the writings and story line of Dumas were more recognizable in the season 2 series than they were for me in Season 1, which enhanced the entertainment.Furthermore, I think that the acting improved in all of the facets of the scenes, whether they be action, drama, comedy, or suspense. In other words: In no time, I was simply enjoying the show. I will probably buy season 3 when it is released.

I'm in love with this show. At first I was a little hesitant to watch it. I thought it would be the same ole stuff I watched growing up. It wasn't. Pleasantly Surprised. Action packed and plenty of humor. Hats off to these fabulous Actors. Made me fall in love with all the characters. Watched second series first then the first. A bit backwards but I am glad I did. Totally hooked. If Women were seen differently back in those days. Constance would of made an AWESOME Musketeer. She is so fearless. Bring on the next Season!

Oh my! What's not to like about this series! Gorgeous costumes, scenery, and men! Good plots. A lot of swashbuckling but that is what the musketeers did and do. All actors seemed to be perfect for their part. I loved it! Bought all 3 seasons and was so glad that I did.

I was worried upon hearing the departure of Cardinal Richelieu since he was such a soulful villain, but the second season, if possible, is even better. The suspense builds throughout all the episodes towards the King's believable paranoia and Rochefort's rise to power, but the last three episodes are masterful as we near the climax of the season. Of course, the four musketeers are all wonderful, and when I read that other viewers have favorites, I'm not sure how that is possible since all four are amazing actors and, which doesn't hurt, handsome men as well. A special nod to Alexandra Dowling, Queen Anne, for the scene in which Rochefort has come to execute her. With so few words, she is incredibly believable as she stoically and majestically accepts her fate. That scene is worth the wait.

Très belle série. Les paysages et les décors sont magnifiques. Les acteurs sont excellents. J'ai passé un agréable moment à regarder le DVD en français. Je recommande vivement

After watching Series 1 I didn't think it could get much better but it is even better than series 1. All the characters are there except for Richlieu (Peter Capaldi) who has died (in reality gone off to play Dr Who). His place is taken by Rochfort (Marc Warren) who is very dangerous. He is completely deluded into thinking that the Queen (Alexandra Dowling) loves him and when he is spurned, there is no end to his madness. King Louis XIII (the fantastic Ryan Gage) is just as gullible as ever and sees no evil in Rochfort, following his advice slavishly and not realising just how much he needs his loyal musketeers to keep him safe. Aramis is also nursing a very dangerous secret which is going to come back to haunt him and the Queen. Absolutely brilliant. I understand that the BBC has commissioned a series 3 which is being filmed at present. I just can't wait for the return of the fabulous Musketeers. True entertainment!

Habe jetzt endlich die Blue-ray erhalten. Die Lieferzeit war recht lang, war aber bei der Bestellung so angegeben, deshalb hier kein Gemeckere. Als Bonus sind 6 Extra-Szenen enthalten, die aber bereits von youtube und der bbc- Homepage bekannt sind – schade. Da hatte ich mir etwas mehr erhofft! Zur Serie selbst: Es gibt wieder 10 meist in sich abgeschlossene Episoden. Von Beginn an entspinnt sich eine sehr dunkle Hintergrundgeschichte, die in einem fulminanten Staffelfinale gipfelt – toll. (Auch wenn es diesmal zwischen Episode 9 und 10 einen garstigen Cliffhanger gibt…) Die Schauspieler sind wieder großartig, Mark Warren als neuer Gegenpart ist grandios – „I’m your god now“ – huh, Gänsehaut. Insgesamt ist die zweite Staffel härter und düsterer als die erste und sehr emotional. Für mich volle Punktzahl – absolut empfehlenswert. Ich hoffe, dass die ARD wieder für eine deutsche Version sorgt, damit auch eine gute Synchronisation vorliegt und die gute Unterhaltung nicht getrübt wird! Am Rande: Es gibt wieder einiges an versteckten Späßen der Produzenten zu entdecken, z.B. wurde ein Abbild der Himmelscheibe von Nebra verwendet. Ich bin mir sicher, dass ich noch nicht alles gefunden habe, aber ich finde so etwas Klasse – dabei wird immer eine besondere Brücke zwischen Produktion und Publikum gebaut. PS: Ich hatte kürzlich das große Glück, einige der Schlösser und Burgen zu besichtigen, in denen gedreht wurde sowie den „Stammsitz“, die Garnision – eine unbeschreibliche Erfahrung, diese Kulissenstadt zu sehen! Es wurde bereits fleißig gebaut für Staffel 3!

I was so looking forward to S2 of this magnificent production and it did not disappoint. This is a magical exploration of the world created by Alexandre Dumas. The plots are" edge of the seat," the acting superb, the location compliments the story to perfection. I always look forward to the extras as well, so very interesting to see how this universe is created. Magicians can reproduce the queens room in every details, for example, amazing. I can't wait for S3, I am sure it will be worth waiting for.

原作とは大分離れて自由に作られています。若干ソープオペラ風味な改変に困惑するものの、BBCドラマらしく衣装や演出が丁寧にこだわって作られ、画にも重厚感のある作品です。このドラマも含めBBCドラマは特に音楽がステキだと思います。 個人的にこのドラマのロシュフォール伯は悪役ですが、少し哀れに感じます。 そして何故かやたらと胸元がはだけていて、イギリスのロックスター風味でもあります。 因みに原作でのロシュフォールはダルタニアンと三度剣を交えた後に和解し、のちに銃士隊と共闘もする人物です。
