Singer CG590
So far I love my sewing machine! I've been sewing since I was a teenager and now I'm in my forties mostly sewing for you two young daughters...I'm not a professional but certainly know how to sew and how to maintain my sewing machines. I received my new Singer CG590 and was a little disappointed with the all the plastic parts...but once I started sewing all my cares and concerns vanished. Over the last month I've sewn 2 dresses, 2 peasants skirts with yards and yards of fabric, pajamas and have done alterations. I did make a few adjustments to the machine tension and had to refer back to the instructions a few times but other wise the machine preformed flawlessly, the stitching was great and I personally found the machine easy to use. Plus I love that the CG590 is NOT a computer. I want to sew for my girls not be a computer programmer!!! Overall I'm very very happy with my purchase. My only complaint...I wish the motor was more quiet. August 2016 - I'm sad. We moved and I made the mistake of letting the movers move machine. Big mistake. I think it was crushed (causing the bobbin stick to get pushed into the machine and gears or moving to be destroyed). Up until the move the machine worked well 5 yesrs, stitching was even and smooth and yes the machine was a little loud but it maxee happy. RIP my machine :(

I recommend trying it out-- Great manual machine
My other machine needed replaced and I don't buy expensive machines as I use it in a studio/art design setting. I need commercial grade for short runs, special fabrics, and samples, and this machine has proven to be a superior replacement without spending much more than I did on my prior machine. It's a big deal for me when I replace something that works for me (previous machine) and am glad this model is working out. It is loud (not like they were years ago) and does vibrate a lot when running at high speed, but I use it in a studio where it's okay to make noise, and think if I can find a piece of foam/rubber to place under it it may reduce the vibrations. It's easy to thread and adjust. I was apprehensive after reading some reviews. No, it's not operated like my other machine but it was not difficult to learn, and like any new machine, one needs to learn how to make adjustments. Yes, I have tired machines and no matter how I hard I tried, I could not get used to how to thread it no less make adjustments, but this one is intuitive. I am also glad it is manual-- no computerization.

well made machine
this maschine is much better than my older and cheaper singer machine. the only plastic is the bobbins. it has only one small problem and that is trying to put in a new needle, very limited space for a guys clumbsy fingers to insert the needle. i use a small plyers to hold the needle to insert it in the hole. it sews realy smoothly and doesn't bounce around. the bigest thing is it is NOT MADE IN CHINA but made in BRAZIL and the fit and finesh is very good. all cast metal and plenty of power as it sews thru severl layers of denim with no slow down. plenty of stich options and easy to select.would reccomend it to any one that wants a well made machine NOT MADE IN CHINA . review update after using it for over a year it is still a great machine. i use it mainly to repair jeans. i have found it to sew thru 6 lawers of jean material material with no problem. have had no breakages and it sews smoothly with no jams.still a great buy.

BOBBIN WINDER NON-FUNCTIONAL AFTER 6 USES
I purchased this machine last October, 2010, on Amazon; the reviews were good. Machine looked great on arrival and did a good job of straight stitching. Winding the bobbin was always a problem, as the bobbin winds unevenly. The bobbin does not come apart like those on Singer's Touch n' Sew, which is very inconvenient. The mechanism appeared to be loose. A Singer representative advised me to take machine to an official warranty dealership near my home. What appeared to be a tiny, rubber stopper had come loose. No parts were broken. The technician glued the stopper and returned my machine to me at no charge. It appears that Singer had a bad batch of these CG590's come through for 2010, all with the same sloppy assembly, for I was not the first caller to report this problem to Singer. (See 1 star review of this item on Amazon.) I'm happy with the outcome; time will tell if my new machine holds up. Be advised that the warranty on parts is good for only 90 days for this machine. After that, parts and labor will be your responsibility. The technician at the Singer dealership spent a few minutes showing me how to correctly load the bobbin and thread the machine. The instruction manual for the CG590 has vague diagrams, though the written instructions appear to be fairly adequate. The technician pointed out at least two areas where I had missed guiding the thread to the needle. On this machine, it is difficult to see the guides. If you order one of these machines, ask someone who is familiar with Singer to provide instructions. I have owned two Singers in the past and this unit is very different from my earlier machines. A major drawback for me is the poor lighting on the "head." You'll need an additional light source to properly use this machine.

Outstanding Purchase
This is a fantastic machine. The main case (grey) is mostly metal and very well made. My machine was assembled in Brazil. It runs at various speeds and has a powerful motor that is easily controlled by the foot pedal for any desired speed. I have hardwood floors and the machine operates smoothly and quietly. I read the manual prior to use and it easily threads needles and every feature is superb. I'm extremely happy with this Singer CG590 Commercial Grade Sewing Machine. We have used this machine many times and it is the very best sewing machine that I have ever owned. It is a simple mechanical machine, that is easy to use, easy to change settings, and has very little electronics to malfunction. It seems to be a long lasting, very reliable machine, and I highly recommend it.
