My second purchase, good quality.
This rice is delicious. I rinse it then soak it just covered in water, then cook in same water, topped up, it takes about 20 minutes. Sometimes add stock, depends how I'm serving it - with curry it needs no salt or added flavour. IT'S NUTTY, AND KEEPS ITS SHAPE AND COLOUR. I'VE SEEN OTHER REVIEWS RE QUALITY - PURCHASED MINE MARCH 2026, IN EXCELLENT CONDITION AND WELL PACKAGED.

Great
Taste very nice. Has a nutty or seed taste to it which is really tasty. Very healthy alternative to white and brown

Best price per kilo
Searching online for a low GI rice I came across a few possibilities, red, black and wild rice. Finally opted for black rice and this one in particular as the price per kilo was the best. Known as forbidden rice in days gone by in China because of its rarity, it was only eaten by royalty. We've just tried it for the first time - chewy and flavoursome (nutty) - it takes longer than white basmati to cook though that is not surprising - around 30-35 minutes but well worth the wait. We coked a mixture of black rice and long grain brown rice - worked really well. Add natural yoghurt and some soy sauce or maybe sumac to taste- delicious!

Not bad value for money
Not as firm as other brands I've bought but they were organic & just a little more expensive, I cooked both exactly the same way! But not much difference. Dont eat as much with this as white Basmati & feel fuller for longer🙏🏽

Quite nice in buddha bowls
I rinse and soak this overnight and use a rice cooker. This product is chewier than my cupboard staple- thai fragrant (white) rice. Its worth noting this isn't fragrant like black glutinous rice as I suspect some other reviewers were expecting, it is a x-strain between risotto and black rice, so can have a gummy texture if overcooked. Quite nice in buddha bowls, burrito bowls, etc. Positives: higher fiber content (Venus rice, 3.4g vs Green Dragon fragrant rice, 1.0g), contains anthocyanin, subtle nutty flavour. Negatives: can take a long time to cook, my mother mentioned she had a little indigestion compared to red/white rice, significantly more expensive much like other specialty ingredients (Green Dragon fragrant rice, £1.75 per 1kg)

Interesting, if only market price wasent so High
Nice rich color and slightly nutty flavour . Texture is different from white rice but better in my opinion than brown rice. I switched over to this as hated brown rice but wanted to get away from white rice. The first time you cook it , it's slightly terrifying as goes such a strange shade but it doesn't affect it in anyways, if anything color makes it more interesting . On the value for money front ... I don't know if I can honestly say it is. The price from this seller is on a par for the market so this isn't a go at them but I can see it becoming a staple at the current cost in our house as very expensive especially when compared to other grains which can be used .
