Wouldn't open - needed bolt cutters
I bought this product several years ago and it worked well. However, I lost the lock and order a new one about two weeks ago. The new one was a dud. I used a couple times successfully. However, the third time I used it the lock seized up and I was unable to open it. The timing was pretty bad because I just got out of the shower and had all my clothes and valuables in the locker. I had to head to the gym front desk in a towel and slippers. I was afraid I was going to have to walk home in a towel and slippers and hope that I could get into my house without keys and cellphone as the gym was getting close to closing. Luckily the gym staff was able eventually open it by using bolt cutters. Now I am on the market for another lock and afraid of getting caught "naked" by buying another dud lock. Wish these locks could be more reliable, not sure what product to buy, any recommendations would be appreciated.

Buyer Beware
I bought my first Master Lock 643D in June 2025. In less than 6 months of intermittent use on a gym locker, I was stranded in a locker room straight out of a shower with a lock that wouldn’t open. After repeated attempts by more than just myself, I had to traipse into the common area of the gym in just my towel and ask an employee to come with their bolt cutters to give me access to clothes, car keys, money and my phone. I know there was no confusion with the combination as it was my husbands birthday and we’ve been married for 40 years - it’s a date I remember. I wrote this all off to a fluke because it was a Master lock… always been considered the workhorse of personal locks. And if you can’t trust Master Lock to keep your stuff safe, who can you trust?!?! Foolishly I ordered another. This one failed after less than 60 days. All hail the bolt cutters! Next time I buy a lock, it will be any brand but Master. What do they say? “Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me!”

Good item
Good item like the idea that you do not need a key. Quality of item seems to be made good.

Perfect lock for gym runners
Pros: - Simple to use - Good value what you get - If you wear running shorts you don’t have pockets for a key but with this lock no need to worry - Size is not too small - You can change the code whenever you want Cons: - If you forget the code you’re screwed

Good inexpensive lock for lockers and similar uses
This is not a heavy duty lock, it seems though it could be easily popped open prying with a screwdriver or such. That being said, I would be comfortable using it on a school or gym locker. I purchased one for my daughters use on her school locker. The combination is simple to set, and the lock is rather slim and unobtrusive. The numbers are easy to see, and the lock and tumblers all operate smoothly. When locked, it is solid and secure, with no rattles or movement in the mechanism. The only drawback with this lock is that there is a very small range between locked and unlocked, if you are not 100% sure it is closed, it is easy to think it is locked when it is actually still open. This is one drawback to the limited movement when locked, there is no 'over play' when closing the lock, where you push past the lock point. The lock only fastens when the bar is completely pressed into the body, 95% does not do it, only 100% down until it stops will actually lock it. Becuase of this, my daughter accidentally left hers unlocked at school. Thankfully noone stole anything from her locker, but they did steal the lock itself! I was comfortable puchasing a second of these locks for her use, the cost of the first was well worth the learning experience to teach her to always double check the locks! Overall, I comfortably recomend this lock for school or gym locker use (assuming you dont leave expensive electronics or jewelry in your gym locker). For the price, it is hard to beat.

Solid choice & reliable
I don't understand why there's so many reviews of people Unable to open their locks. These locks require you to set your own combination. The only way they won't work properly is if you do not follow the directions. Please read the instructions inside the packaging to set your own combination correctly. I ordered 2 master locks. I followed the instructions exactly and have not had any issues. I opened and closed mine 20 times each upon receiving my locks and setting my combo. No issues at all because I read the instructions. I got these locks for my pelican tool box at work. These are not for security but for privacy. These just detur people from easily taking my tools. Could easily be broken off if you wanted to. But I think they're slightly better than the other cheaper options on Amazon. Good quality for price

Easy to pick!
This lock makes a good first impression: a nice heft to the metal, good design, feels more "real" than one of the classic front-dial locks. A couple days ago I pulled this out of a drawer and it was locked, and I didn't remember the combination. Before just throwing away the $8 I spent on it (in July 2012), I'd read a few things ... so I sat on the couch and started pulling on the top loop while I turned number dials one at a time, not looking at the numbers, pretending that I could discern when a number actually felt 'different' as if it had snapped in place and was the right number. One felt good, then another, I moved to the next number, then the 4th and the lock snicked open. I looked down, saw the numbers and did an "oh yeah" as I remembered the esoteric combination that I'd originally set. It took me less than 5 minutes to pick the lock. I have near-zero experience at picking locks. This lock was WAY too easy to pick! Maybe that's safe enough for use in a busy gym locker-room but it's definitely not safe for protecting anything where a thief has time to pull on the lock and "feel" the right combination. Amazon had this product on lock-down so you couldn't buy it but it looked like someone picked that lock too.

Great lock for the gym!
Great for gym lockers! It's a pretty popular item, so I wouldn't rely on only this lock to find your locker, but it's popular because it's easy to use and works well!

I have several of these locks that I set up with the identical combination. I used a four-letter-word (not vulgar), which I find much easier to remember than numbers. The padlocks are installed on gates and sheds around my property. They work reasonably well if you keep the internal guts lubricated. They are fairly light-duty; I suspect that someone could easily break in using a large screwdriver. However, they should at least slow the thieves down, which hasn’t been a problem to date. After several years of use, one of these locks just stopped working and wouldn’t open one day. I’ve read reviews that say they occasionally just don’t work with the set combination. I just cut it off and installed a new one. For about $10, I figured a cost of about $1 per year is reasonable. A decent lock that’s convenient to use. Regards, Mark

Bought this for a backpacking trip through Europe to use on hostel lockers. Worked perfectly. Did not encounter a single latch that this didn't fit perfectly on. Combination lock was perfect, since I feared losing a key. Found it tricky to open the lock in the dark since I couldn't see the dial, but then I decided to scramble the combo in a specific pattern, so I could align them by memory. This lock is not the absolute most secure option—obviously!—but it's perfect for a quick lock up and looks solid enough to prevent thefts of opportunity.

These worked out perfectly. Purchased for my son to take to basic training. He was able to create the code he could remember and able to access in hurry.

ottimo prodotto, robusto. l'archetto è resistente, quando è chiuso non ha gioco, si salda perfettamente. la rondella di protezione sopra la chiusura é una ulteriore garanzia.
