Pretty decent Scale
Before buying I took a look at the reviews, of course. I was amazed to see so many units sold. And since this is a good response of the market I trusted and went ahead to get one of these. Despite it has 11 bad rated reviews I thought "this thing can't be that bad". As a consummate Amazon.com shopper for so many years now I know that 'sometimes' it is possible to have bad experiences with a product purchased online, where the only tools that help taking the buying decision are some photos and reviews. I know; sometimes it is hard not being physically there at the store to see, touch and feel the product, but with some experience, logic and attention you're able to become an expert online shopper! On the other hand, bad rates ARE NOT necessarily related to the product quality itself but with transportation, sales support, DOA units, lack of the How-It-Works thing, averseness about user guide reading, irresponsible reviewers and etc factors. You gotta be smart and apply your own logical conclusions to see beyond that ugly 1 star review because the product may be good after all. And this is precisely one of those cases, where in addition to the massive sales of this Scale, and the good rates that widely overcome the 4 stars and down ones, bad rates don't harm. Sorry for those users though! One of the poorly rated reviews that caught my attention was one that said that this Scale was inaccurate. Well, I did my own tests and found the opposite. First, the Scale comes factory calibrated. At least the unit I received didn't require any additional adjustment. I weighed coins of specific denominations and searched online to compare and I got even results. In addition to weighing coins of different values, I also weighed coins of the same denomination to see if its weights matched, and was pleased to see IT DIDN'T! They just had only a tiny difference in grams, which is absolutely normal (because some are more worn than others). Then I took note of each individual weight and totalized it in my calculator, and compared the result to the weight of all the coins together in the Scale and it was exactly the same. This was really a simple test, but to me it is more than enough. It was satisfying to see that all the weight results and comparisons were accurate and consistent so I am sure now that when I do real weight works I will get accurate and consistent results as well. The other detail I also liked about this Scale was the battery compartment; it has room for spare batteries! (What device that you know has that? Wow! How convenient!). The construction of the unit is good (looks strong, well-built and looks cool too). Despite the lid looks a bit fragile initially (the hinges are kind of loose), after few uses you get used to it and becomes somewhat normal (nothing to worry about). Accessing the control buttons is very comfortable, and I really love the availability of different weight measures (gr, oz, ct, gn, ozt, dwt). Ahem, plz excuse me..., this is my first Scale!; I didn't know it was just a conventional function! ;-) Just noticed a small inconvenience about the LCD screen; it does not provide a clear reading at inclined angles, which is how you look at it when you place the Scale e.g. on your desktop. You have to look at it 'almost' perpendicularly (I'm exaggerating on this) to clearly read the info. But I think this is a matter of custom, not worth taking out a star for this fact. Has auto off which is very convenient. And finally, some reviewer wrote that s/he received the unit with leaking batteries. Well, yes, unusual and annoying!, but that can happen even with the most costly devices that (surprisingly) come with batteries! So you better check the batts as soon as you receive your unit to verify that everything is ok. In conclusion, cheap products are usually a bloody disaster (again, exaggerating). But hey, honestly, I am glad to say that THIS IS NOT ONE OF THEM! As my title says, this is a pretty decent Scale. Sure there are better (with considerable higher prices), but what you get for this price is an absurd bargain! Greetings from Colombia, JAS

7 YEARS LATER
Actually I bought it 6 years, 11 months, and 21 days ago...I may as well be exact as this scale...Back then it cost $16.35 + $5.58 shipping since I didn't have Prime yet...I'd gladly pay the same amount for another one, but this one still functions as if it was brand new... Some reasons why this is a kickass scale, whether old or new : -The blue backlighting is a discrete convenience... -Two AAA batteries last a very long time... -Even if it DID eat batteries, the chamber in back holds a spare set... -If I didn't know how to use it, all I'd have to do is look at the lid/tray... -Still accurate to within 1/100 of a gram, according to my other scales... -Fits in a jeans pocket no problem, and goes wherever I go... -Doesn't need constant calibration...(Haven't calibrated it this YEAR, but it's still dead on) -Tare function comes in very handy when weighing hundreds of pills at once... -Didn't cost much, so I don't really care if it gets a bit banged around... -The fact that it CAN get banged around... A few things I've learned : -It must be on a flat, stable surface or it won't read right... -The heavier you can make that surface the better, even if it's just a large book... -To get the best accuracy, press down a little (as lightly as possible) when placing on whatever you are weighing...Don't know why this works, but it does... -Adjust the position so that the majority of the mass is resting on the center of the weighing platform... -To clean, breathe on the metal and wipe with something that won't leave traces, such as a shop rag, eyeglass cloth, etc. while the scale is off...I usually do this a few times... -A bill from your wallet should weigh exactly 1 gram, and makes for a quick tray with plenty of shape options...A fast tool... Difficult to go wrong with AWS...Employ common sense and it works fine... HIGHLY RECOMMENDED Hopes this helps... GOOD LUCK !!!

Small, mobile, precise. Excellent.
This product arrived today (packaging was great), and it worked so well I was inspired to come write a review immediately. It served exactly the purposes for which I required it, and it did so without many significant issues. First of all, it's pretty small. While this is handy in most situations, it also leads to the only minor complaint that I had: the scale itself is so small that it becomes harder to measure some foodstuffs without the powders and pellets falling off the edge. It would be nice if there were a lip around the perimeter to prevent the weighed items from spilling over. Moreover, there is a bit of space that would allow smaller items and powders to fall beneath the scale platform. Luckily, I was measuring out hop pellets for use in a home-brew recipe, and though they rolled off fairly easily, they were not small enough to fall underneath the scale, entirely, just off the edge onto the counter. This problem would be solved, of course, by using a container (see below), but even then, I had trouble finding a container that was both small enough and light enough that it would do the job without getting me too close to the 100 gram limit. I might consider investing in a 100g weight, but I didn't want to wait for the additional shipping on that item, so I used 40 pennies to calibrate it, and it seemed to do the trick (e.g. I had what my supply store said was 1 oz, and those pellets weighed right about 28.4 g after calibration. The tare function on the scale is rather intuitive and very functional. As noted above, the only containers I have are, apparently, somewhat dense (and large) for this scale; I should have considered this before I bought a scale with a 100 g weight max, but I really liked the precision of this one and most of the time I am measuring only a few ounces or less of hops. There is a fold-over lid that latches into place. This protects the scale itself from being jostled or damaged when you move it. It appears to do a very good job. The directions are printed on the inside of the lid, which makes for easy reference. However, it is so intuitive you will likely only need to read them once. Even calibrating the scale is not very difficult. The LCD screen is very legible. Two batteries were enclosed; they were inserted into the battery slots, but there was a plastic strip between one battery and the node to prevent draining the battery during transit. It worked pretty much straight out of the box (though it did require 40 pennies or 20 nickels or a 100 g calibration weight). I will update if further experience warrants.

MOST FUNCTIONAL AND ACCURATE SCALE IN THE WORLD.
American Weigh Scales has become an absolute game-changer in my baking journey, and I can't help but share my AMAZING experience with their exceptional product. Let me tell you, this scale is not just a kitchen tool; it's a culinary companion that has elevated my baking to a whole new level. Literally as soon as the moment I unboxed it, I was impressed by the sleek design and modern aesthetic. The attention to detail in both form and function is evident, making it a standout addition to my kitchen. The user-friendly interface made me feel like a pro from the kitchen hahaha, and the CONVIENENT controls meant I spent less time figuring out the scale and more time focusing on my passion for baking. ANOTHER THING the precision is literally the best thing ever omg! I have tried the same amoumts of ingredients on different scales and gotten different amounts all the time, but with AWS there is a great consistency with their precision. So haha trust me when I say this scale will literally be a life saver!

you can reset and calibrate your scale, last sentence. Perfect for my flowers business, not for medicine for my dog though.
Perfect scale for gold or s crap jewlrey buying and z I have compared it rounding .047 and it Zheng right with a milligram. However, it isn't something I would weigh medicines with because I do have to calibrate it after carrying, dropping, overweighting etc. I wouldn't go with another scale for medical flowers either! Left on a table for months to weigh out fresh amounts to evenly roll into a bouget (joint) (also in state of Colorado as a patient) but would work for tobacco rollers who tend to have that "bump" in their roll up! If your worried about over 1/100th of a gram of anything besides powdered medicine in a lab I would recommend this! However it's not one to weigh yourself on..but you can see it's accuracy with a nickel. Use that coin on center, if the digits read 5.00 it's in shape! 5.01 might mean a nick of dirt is on the edge, or rounded. But if your broke and want to calibrate which takes 100 grams with this scale you can make an accurate calculation by placing 20 nickels on it. (10 in two stacks is best, and 5 grams times 20 pieces makes a calibration weight itself as long as nice clean nickels are used! It reads 5.00 after I do it and I test every single nickel I used!! Hence my title, rate this please, my first review ever for weighing a good band today better than a jewelers scale I had to! And I might get sent anither to try! :) (For professional use , buy their 100g weight, as it will stay within 1/10 of a gram but I would recommend a couple extra dollars than having to spend the time it takes)

accurate little scale for the price
honestly shocked at how accurate this thing is for what it costs. i tested it against some known weights and it read consistently correct every time which was not something i totally expected going in. the backlit screen is a really nice touch and the fact that there is a built in storage spot for spare batteries is just smart design that i appreciate. it fits easily in a pocket and the case keeps it from getting banged up. just make sure you use it on a flat stable surface and you will get reliable readings every time.

Very impressive
I haven’t had a need to use the scale extensively yet. I bought it to weigh out herbs for medicinal preparations, which I only do infrequently. But I like the operation of the unit. It fits the need.

Good Quality / Price
Very precise and looks sturdy enough to last for years to come. My only complain is I wish it could weight more than 350g, but advertise for a max of 300g so I knew when I bought it.

Impeccable. Je l'utilise pour peser du houblon pour le brassage de bière. La fonctionnalité de remise à zéro lorsqu'il y a un récipient dessus est parfaite.

Excelent
Does exactly what it says on the box, instructions clear and easy to follow, and acuracty very good. A tip:- check web/royal mint for weights of UK coins and use these as a quick chek of the accuracy instead of buying a 500 grm weight.
