The string is too short! How can I adjust the length of the pull string cord to be longer?

Simply untie both ends and remove the clip. Rethread both ends through cord lock, up through bottom & down through top, parellel to each other. Tie one end to clip and knot other end of loose string. Now the cord can adjust up to 35 inches.
