An extremely portable softbox with very soft light
I bought this to fit in my photo gear bag that I use for airline travel. It is much lighter and more compact than any of my other pro softboxes. It's a unique product and fills a nice niche for photographers. Inexpensive, but well made. I don't think it would survive much abuse, but if you damage it, just buy another one. It took a while to get used to the fact that I couldn't easily access my AD200 strobe once I closed it up inside the softbox, but with modern wireless control, you rarely need to touch your strobe. My only minor complaint is that when everything is set up on a light stand, you can't angle the softbox downward without hitting the light stand. I guess you could use a boom, but that kinda defeats the idea of portability.

Easy to Set Up, Easy to Tear Down and Very Portable
As a light modifier for my Canon 580EX external flash, this Neewer umbrella/softbox really works well. The surface area of the front casts a lot of soft even light on the subject, though the depth of the softbox makes it a bit awkward in the tight confines in which I frequently have to shoot (I photograph newborn babies, usually in their homes). The umbrella opens up and closes down easily so that it can be inserted into the handy travel pouch for transporting. It is easy to drop it onto the light stand through the open slit on the bottom, and attaching the white diffuser panel is a cinch since it has strips of velcro all around the edges. I leave mine just loosely tacked in place because I don't want the loud ripping sound of the velcro to disturb a sleeping baby if I have to reach inside to adjust the flash head for any reason. I'm sure this won't be the last softbox I will ever buy, but for a fledgling professional shooter, this is an easy investment to make with an immediate payback in terms of the great light it produces.

A must have for traveling shoots. Works well for protraiture in studio. Amazing value. You will not be dissappointed.
A must have if you are relying on off-camera flashes for your studio needs. Great direction of light. The diffuser fits well and casts a nice even soft light. For those who complain that this does not angle down enough - move the speedlite deeper into the octobox. If that isn't enough, use a boom to get the correct angle (to be honest, you should have a boom if you are using an octobox as a key light). Booms are available on Amazon for less than $30. This item is not heavy and will be fine on "inexpensive" booms. I use this heavily in my studio and at location shoots. I also use this occasionally with my X1600 strobes. If you use it with monolights do NOT use the modeling lamp as you will melt the frame and fabric. For the money, this is one of the best modifiers out there. Combine this with a Yongnou YN560-III, a YN560-TX and a white piece of cardboard as a reflector and you'll be able to create some very great images for around $130.00 total. Most octoboxes cost well over $130.00 by themselves.

Excellent budget softbox
This is my first softbox, so I do not have much to compare this to. I do have a set of umbrellas that I use, but this lets me have a bit more control over where the light is being thrown. The diffuser adds a wonderful soft light that does some incredible things with skin tones. Set up is pretty straight forward and it opens up just like an umbrella. There is a zippered opening to get your stand through the bottom and then mount the flash on the inside. Pros: - Easy set up and take down, although there it is a bit of trick to fold the diffuser panel correctly to get it back into the carry bag with the softbox. Iโm sure once you do it a few times, it will not be an issue. - Size โ this thing is really large (over 4 feet diameter!) once you get it set up and you can direct a nice wall of light with this thing. - Diffuser makes a wonderful soft light. - Seems like it is well constructed for the price. I am not sure if it would survive a tumble in the wind, but I plan on mostly using this indoors. - Provides good lighting with both a speedlight and plug-in strobe. Cons: - The flash unit goes inside the umbrella. If you have a manual flash, adjustments are best dialed in before you Velcro on the diffuser panel. Having it on the inside really canโt be avoided with this style of softbox, but itโs something to be aware of before buying. - There is no articulating arm on the mount, so you will not be able to angle this unit. Your only option is straight up and down. Because it is so large, it hasnโt been a problem for me. One other reviewer suggested mounting it on a boom stand, which would be a pretty easy solution to adjust the angle. Overall, I am very happy with this softbox and would recommend it to anyone who is looking for an affordable, yet quality entry to expand their flash photography gear. I have had a good experience with the Neewer brand so far. I have this softbox paired with the Neewer 250W Studio Flash and I have been very happy with the results.

Not just for strobes.
Don't let the description of this product fool you. It's not just for studio strobes or Speedlights. For some time now, I've been looking for a deep reflective umbrella to harness the full light output potential of my large, 85 watt CFLs for video work. Standard umbrellas spread the light way more than necessary, and much of the light from a CFL - which is already pretty diffuse - is wasted as "spill." This parabolic umbrella focuses more of the light from a CFL on your subject, yet still provides a nice, soft, diffuse light that can cover a person from head to toe, even from a relatively short distance. If you have CFL lights for video work, you need something like this or a deep, reflective rectangular soft box. If you're using this for strobe work, the included diffusion material - which attaches to the front of the umbrella with Velcro - is a nice touch. For continuous lighting with CFL's, though, the diffuser will cut your light too much, and isn't really needed. The support rods are made of fiberglass, and seem pretty durable. The 85w CFL I'm using (see attached photo) does not generate enough heat to threaten the integrity of any part of this umbrella/soft box. Intended/recommended uses for video work: single-subject interviews as key or fill light and table top objects. Update: I have added two photos I took of my daughter's German Shepherd using this umbrella and small, Canon Speedlight. It provides both soft, diffuse light, and a beautiful catch-light in the eyes.

Great and Affordable Softbox with a Couple Caveats
Pros: Affordable, really easy to set up, and creates really nice light. Cons: - The flash unit sits inside the box, so it's a little annoying if you need to get to or see it for any reason... like when the cycle time on my cheap little unit starts to increase and I can't tell when it's ready. - The velcro on the diffuser doesn't quite align with and is a bit larger than the box giving it a wrinkly appearance and leaving gaps around the edges. It doesn't seem to be negatively affecting the images...but this is my first time ever using flash or a softbox, so I wouldn't really know. And it could just be the one I got. All in all, great box and a great price.

Octo-Butta
When looking for an Octo box I feel like I scoured the earth! I was definitely on a budget so the world was NOT my oyster. This is when I came upon the Neewer 47" Octo box for speedlights. This product got great reviews by current users, and the price was definitely right; not to mention that I had just received a gift card from work (the planets had aligned!). So I pulled the trigger, and man was I ever please. Delivery was fast, and the product came wrapped in bubble wrap like it was a crown jewel; so kudos to the vendor: standbyon. But wait, there's more! I could not wait to shoot with this "giant" cost effective light modifier and boy it did not disappoint! It was fast to set up and the light was like butta on a warm biscut. I used a boom arm so tilting was not an issue, so think ahead before you buy if tilting will be an issue for you and how you shoot. If its not, then this is pure butta baby, you cannot go wrong!!!

A bit of a hassle
Very hard to control the speed light once covered. Need to keep taking off diffuser to adjust the light level
