Review: Hassle-free 1-hand-operable magnet mount, a must-get! - No regrets buying this. Was thinking of getting the traditional cheaper clamp/grip-type mount but settled for this. What I want is hassle-free mounting and unmounting my ip5s and Galaxy S4. I want to use only ONE hand, not two to mount/unmount the phone, as usually required by clamp-type mounts. On the metal plates, I use the 3M adhesive type on the S4 cover. I don't even peel off the adhesive layer. Just use some double-sided tape on the metal side is good enough. This is so that the same plate can be reused repeatedly on different phone covers w/o removing the adhesive layer -> don't have to buy additional plates. For the iphone I use the round non-adhesive smaller metal plate. I place it near the bottom to facilitate typing text and when pressing menu button the phone won't pivot. See attached pix. The suction cup is different from typical ones, really sticky and gel-like, therefore decide where you want it to be mounted. Before mounting, highly recommended to wipe over the target area with some alcohol wipes to remove dirt, and do not use fingers to touch the cup surface once the protective layer is removed. I chose the cover of the storage compartment cover of my 2009 Avante(Elantra HD) instead of the dashboard(as most people would) as mounting point so that I won't have to extend body and arm to grab the phone. In this location it is comfortably within hand's reach for mount/unmount of phone. I do not open the compartment frequently so it ain't a major obstruction. Once the mount is attached I tried to yank it with moderate force but couldn't. I am convinced this sucker will be there for a while. Mounting the phone can't be easier. Just place the phone on the damn mount and it'll stick onto it. Period. Typically the metal plate is placed at the center of the phone, so when mounting just try to put the phone at the centre of the mount. This ensures maximum magnet force and the phone won't slip. Okay to mount it vertical, sideways or any orientation you want. The angle at which the mount points can be adjusted by the screw at the back. Loosen, adjust to desired angle, and tighten the screw back - the angle position is then fixed. Unmounting requires a trick. If you try to "pull" the phone away, you find that it is harder and requires a bit more force. But if you "peel" the phone away from the sides or top/bottom, you find the phone gets detached much easier and do not require much force. I recommend the latter method as the former may eventually loosen the grip of the suction cup on the mounted surface. When going over bumps at relatively low speeds the mounted phone sticks pretty firmly and doesn't come off. I don't intend to screw up my car's suspension by testing it over high speeds. One thing I worry is the mount losing its suction and magnetic strength at high temp environment. I live in Singapore with summer all year round. The noon temperature can hit 35degC(95 degF) and heat up the insides of the car to over 50degC(122degF). Therefore the mount could lose its magnetic strength overtime. The cup may lose its suction causing whole mount to fall off suddenly. It's a good idea to put some windscreen shades and lower the front windows just a bit for hot air to escape, when parking long hours under the noon sun. I'll see after 6 months how the mount will hold up. ^_^ Review: Love the mount, easy to use (updated) - The magnet is plenty strong and so is the suction cup. Unfortunately I have had 2 issues - one on the device itself and one with it's compatibility with my phone case - so I have not yet been able to actually use the mount in my car. I have, however, played with it and *attempted* to mount it in my car. (see update) The head is actually very easy to move. Some of the reviews said that it was difficult - I wonder if they noticed the collar that you twist to loosen the head and allow it to move? That collar allows articulation while making sure the whole thing is very secure (I know, personally, that a mount that's always falling over is particularly annoying.) Unlike what another review mentioned, the suction cup was NOT able to stick to the textured dash of my vehicle - it stuck for about an hour and then fell off (and it was neither a particularly hot nor cold day). The texture is that lightly wrinkled faux leather-looking plastic. Attaching to the glass is not an option - not only is the slope of my windshield dramatic enough to require me to stick this thing dead center, but it is actually illegal in my state to mount anything to the windshield and block line-of-sight of the driver. So while this *does* stick to glass very well, I can't use it there! :( I have bought a console disk to put on my dash, the Arkon AP036 70 mm Console Attachment Disk which fits the iMagnet perfectly and has had no adhesion issues thus far (it's been a few months, but granted it's the middle of what's turned out to be a very cold winter). The other issue was the metal plates. They are not totally compatible with the 2-part Otterbox Commuter case. Why? Otterbox designed the outer hard shell with a circle of raised plastic dead center, so I can't fit either the square or circle plates toward the top without either being off-center or covering the camera. I could put them on the bottom, and simply turn on screen rotation when I mount the phone... but that's a tad obnoxious. I could also put the plate between the soft part of the case and the phone itself, but that makes the connection between magnet and plate weaker. This *is* more of an issue with the case than the mount, but I think it's worth mentioning so that others are aware of the possible issue with their cases. Update: I did end up placing the plate under both layers of the Commuter case - didn't want to do that originally since I was afraid of scratches and it weakens the magnetic connection a bit - and orienting the plate vertically. The phone still attaches just fine but the slightly weaker connection means that it does start rotating from the road vibration if it's not centered absolutely perfectly - whereas in a thinner case the connection was plenty strong to prevent that. If it's allowed to bounce too far, my phone has fallen off a couple of times. Again, this is more a case issue than the mount itself.

Initial impression is incredible (HTC One)
I was very skeptical about ordering this device. I mean, a magnet next to your phone? Didn't it used to be that any magnet within like 10 feet of a computer would wreck and erase its hard drive?! So needless to say, I was a bit nervous. Secondly, I was nervous that the magnet itself wouldn't be strong enough, and my HTC One would constantly be falling off. Well, I'm very happy to say that this has outperformed my expectations, and I am so pleasantly surprised with how easy it is to use. I only used the round no adhesive magnet (stuck between the case and the phone), and it keeps my rather large HTC One on with no problem whatsoever. I have a sort of old stick shift, and at high speeds or when quick shifting it isn't exactly a smooth ride...but this mount has stayed on both the dash, and kept my phone attached to it, with no problems at all. It's only been a week with it, but I have to tell you, every time I simply reach up and let my phone get sucked to the mount or I quickly grab it off to use it in my hand...I feel an intense level of satisfaction. The magnet mounting is just simply brilliant. I can't believe it. Why would anyone ever want anything else? Who wants to clip things in? I will update in a month or so to see where things are. I also got the Tech Armor Anti-Glare screens, and the mediabridge 3.5mm aux cable to augment my car driving experience, and so far I am very pleased with both of those. Updates as things develop! **Update** It's only been a few days or maybe a week, but I just wanted to update the situation because I did run into a problem. Not with the dock exactly, but with a car charger I purchased. I didn't realize the car charger I ordered had a curly slinky cable, and so when I used it with this dock, the cord pulled too much and my phone would spin until it was lopsided. I tried stretching the cable, I tried attempting to hook the cable onto something higher up so that it wouldn't pull as much, and while I got some improvements...the phone still moved. As far as I'm concerned, the dock is still incredible. I returned the charger and I'm waiting on a charger that has a straight cable which I know won't be a problem. My aux cable has no affect on the phone at all (cause it is held quite solidly). **Update 6/6/14** Well, at this point it has been about 3/4 of a year, and man this thing is still going strong. It lasted me a cross country trip, where it FINALLY became unstuck only twice, but my girlfriend grabbed it and stuck it right back in place and it was solid. The second time it fell off was over two months ago now. We now live in Las Vegas, where the temperatures regularly get up to 100 and over, and this little guy hasn't fallen off at all here. I got a different phone (Switched back to iPhone), and I put the magnet in my new case, and use that phone with it no problem! I love this thing, and when it fails, I'll buy it again!

If this mount works with your smartphone/case combination, it's a fantastic and convenient mount
If this mount works with your smartphone/case combination, it's a fantastic and convenient mount. The mount is relatively small, about 3 1/2 inches high. Included in the box was 1 circular thin metal plate and 2 rectangular thin metal adhesive plates. Those plates are packed in the box underneath the cardboard that the mount is sitting on. They can be easily overlooked, so just make sure to pull out all of the packing materials to find them. The magnet is attached to the arm via a ball and locking nut. The ball provides for some adjustment but I found the movement to be more limited than my prior car mount. The suction cup is mounted to the dashboard or window by pushing down a locking lever. The suction cup contains a sticky gel that provides a very strong grip. It can actually be quite tough to remove the mount once installed. On the positive side, it allows the mount to adhere to the dashboard unlike the smooth suction cup mounts. On the con side, this might be annoying if you install only when you intend to use it and remove it when done. The ball joint is a standard size though, and I was able to install the magnet on my old mount's arm which has a smooth suction cup. I am using this mount with a Motorola Droid Turbo in a Diztronic TPU case. I placed the round metal plate between the phone and the case. There is a very strong connection to the magnetic mount. Whether positioned portrait or landscape, the phone does not slip or slide when driving, even when I have the charging cord attached to the phone. It is so convenient to mount the phone to the magnet and remove the phone when done. My wife has the Droid Turbo in an Encased kickstand case. This combination of phone/case was not able to achieve a strong enough connection to the magnet. The Encased case is much thicker and harder than the Diztronic one I am using. I even tried doubling up the metal plates between the phone and the case and it was still a no-go. When driving, the phone slides down. I would be concerned about it falling off completely if we hit a bump or pothole. There is the option of adhering the metal plate to the back of the case, but I feel this would not look good and may interfere with the kickstand feature. So for her car, we are going to try another mount. Overall, this is a great mount. It's very convenient to mount and remove the phone. The suction cup has a superb grip. If you have a compatible case, the magnet and phone maintain a strong bond and there is no shifting or sliding when driving. If you have a thick case though, you may have difficulty using this product and may be better off with something else.

The best phone accessory ever! A must have!
I was in the market for something to hold my cell phone in the car. My main criteria was that it just had a nice suction cup mount for the window and a nice ball head for easy positioning. My initial searches turned up the standard cradle-type holder, and I almost pulled the trigger. I'm glad I didn't. I ran across the iMagnet mount and I am glad I did. In my opinion, this mount is far superior to any cradle-type mount out there. The speed at which you can mount this phone is phenomenal! That means less time fooling with your phone/mount and more time with your eyes on the rode. Since the description is somewhat lacking, here is how it works: in the kit you are given a thin steel plate that has an adhesive backing. You can stick this directly to the back of your phone or to the inside of your phone case. Now that there is a piece of ferromagnetic material on your phone, the strong magnet on the mount will stick to it. That's it! Included in the kit: 1) Mount with gel suction cup and adjustable ball head. 2) qty 1 - 35mm diameter black coated metal disc without adhesive backing 3) qty 2 - 45mm x 65mm rectangular black coated metal plate with 3M adhesive backing The thickness of the metal pieces are 0.40mm by themselves and 0.55mm with the adhesive layer attached. So, very thin. I have a Samsung Galaxy S3 with a very thin, flexible case (Diztronic). I attached one of the rectangular plates to the inside of the case. The area of the plate is a good portion of the phone, which is good because you don't have to be as precise when hooking it to the magnet. With the plate installed, I do not even know it is there when I am handling the phone normally. If I run my finger along the case with some pressure, I can feel the edges of the metal plate, but just barely...and I mean barely. The suction cup on the mount is impressive. Because the material of the suction cup is gel-like, it allows you to place the mount just about anywhere. To place the mount, you make sure the locking lever is up, push the suction cup on whatever surface, and then push the clamp down to create the suction lock. Originally I was going to put it on my windshield, but because of the characteristics of the suction cup, I was able to stick it on my rough/textured dashboard which is great! Now the mount sits just to the right of my steering wheel and I barely have to move to grab the phone (as opposed to leaning forward to reach up to the windshield). Another good thing about the suction cup is that the bit of compliance in the gel material acts as a vibration damper. The magnet head is on a ball & socket connection with a clamp that prohibits movement once you get the position set. The ball & socket allows for quite a bit of adjustability; I didn't measure any angles but I think you would be hard pressed to find a mount location where the ball & socket won't allow you to see your screen. The magnet is STRONG! Perfect balance of keeping the phone in place yet still being able to remove the phone with a good tug/tilt when you need it. Obviously the strength is going to depend on the thickness of your phone case. My phone case is pretty thin, but I don't think there would be a problem with thicker cases that are out there. Before I mounted it in my car, I held the mount with my hand (phone installed) and shook it pretty violently without the phone coming off. In the car (older car, not the smoothest ride) I've gone over some bumpy terrain and the phone hasn't moved yet! This accessory doesn't have to be just for the car either. Anywhere you need your phone, this mount can help you hold it. When I first got the mount, I was playing with it at my desk. I stuck it to the desk and BOOM! I had my phone sitting right next to my computer looking right at me. If you use your phone a lot while at your desk (making phone calls for example), this could definitely speed up your productivity. The possibilities are endless: mount it on a cabinet in the kitchen while you follow a recipe from your phone, mount it on the seat in front of you while on the bus or airplane so you can watch a show...this mount is so cool you'll want to have it everywhere! Now what if you don't have a phone case? Well, you can still stick the plate directly to your phone. I might now look pretty, but it will work! Or...just get a case! About the only downside to this mount is that you have to have the metal plate on your phone. So, let's say someone is in your car and you need to use their phone for some reason (e.g. navigation), you can't use this mount unless their phone has the metal plate installed. I don't think anything like this will ever happen to me, but just a scenario I could think of. As far as interference...I haven't noticed any degradation in my phone signal, bluetooth connectivity, or wifi connectivity. I did read in another review that it does have an effect with NFC (Near Field Communication), but I don't use NFC so I can't verify that. Anyways, get this mount! You won't be disappointed! I've already recommended this to everyone I know! When they first see it they are amazed just like I was when I first saw it...it's like magic!

Won't stick to my dashboard
It stuck for a few months, without any issues, and during that time it was great. Then the weather got hotter (about 80 degrees) and every day I would come to my car and find it on the floor. I figured it just won't stick in the summer. But then the weather got cooler and it would still fall off daily. I cleaned the suction cup and dashboard several times. Then I figured maybe the suction cup was just worn out (gel dried up or something?) so I ordered a new one. The new one immediately started falling off the dash. It will ALWAYS fall off on a trip over a couple hours, even now in the Winter. So I never know when my phone and the holder will just fall on my lap, or on the floor while I am driving. I have also tried applying a few drops of water and holding it in place firmly for over a minute, and then waiting some time before mounting my phone. Doesn't make any difference -- it just falls. It seems almost as if there's no suction at all and it's only held to the dash by the stickiness of the gel base. The car I'm using it in is a 2013 VW Touareg and the dash is slightly curved where I am applying it -- I have tried several spots around the same area. It holds a little longer if I push it all the way forward to where the dash is totally flat, but it still falls off eventually. I will have to get a mount with adhesive instead, which I really didn't want to do, especially on a leased car. But it seems that's the only way to get a mount to stay on my dash and not fall off. I wish I knew why it held fine for several months, and what went wrong. Maybe the second one arrived defective and the first one got damaged by the heat? If anyone has any ideas, please let me know. Thanks.

Works like a charm, even when inserted inside back of iPhone 4S.
This is a pleasure to use! My previous phone car mount was designed to physically snap onto my old iphone and hold it in place by friction. I was always concerned that the friction points would scuff, which they eventually did. It was also awkward to snap the phone in and out of the cradle, having to use one hand to hold the phone and one to release the catch. The soft rubber covered magnetic mount design of this one is terrific! It's so elegant to simply put your phone near the mount and it magically snaps in place. The magnet is fairly strong, no worries running over bumps. My town has some atrocious railroad tracks crossings and this mount passed with flying colors. The magnet doesn't hold so tight where you feel like you'll destroy your dash trying to disengage the phone however. One decent tug and the phone pops right off. Ingenious. Works perfectly for me. The mount requires a metal disc or panel (included) to be either inserted or stuck with adhesive between the phone and a case (not included). I preferred not to use a phone case so I unscrewed the back cover of my iPhone 4S and placed the metal disc between the battery and the back cover. Works great and does not seem to degrade the signal strength of the phone or GPS signal. The real amazing feature for me is the mount that attaches to your dash. It is super-duper solid! There are two methods of attachment, by adhesive and mechanical suction cup. The mounting disc is super-sticky. It's not an adhesive glue coating, but appears to be made of an adhesive rubbery material that holds firmly to a surface, but won't separate and pull apart like a glued surface would. It reminds me of those sticky rubber elastic hands I used to get out of the gumball machines as a kid only much, much stickier. The second aspect of the mounting device is a mechanical suction cup that locks the mount into place. Once you have stuck the mount into place you push down a lever which engages the suction cup. You hear a satisfying "snap" and the mount is firmly locked down. When mounted to a fairly smooth surface this thing simply does not move. My old mount actually was fastened under the dash with screws and this one feels as solid without having to find a hidden spot under the dash or worrying about damaging the dash if it is used in an open location. Although the attachment to the dash feels super solid, it does enable you to easily disengage the mount and move it to another location. Simply pull up the lever to disengage the suction and peel up the adhesive base to remove it from the dash. It's cool to think this could outlast my current car, that I can take it wherever I go and also use it with multiple devices. Awesome, awesome, awesome.

Magnet works great, the suction cup is useless.
"Patented sticky-gel suction cup with a multi-layer gel coating mounts on any non-porous textured surfaces like dashboards and windshields." Yeah, not even close, this "Patented sticky-gel suction cup" does not even stick to smooth surfaces well, no less textured. I had been wanting a replacement for the holder I had, but I wanted something I did not have to mess with to put the phone in and take out of, so the magnet style of this looked like what I wanted. It stated it would work on textured surfaces which I thought would be nice as that meant I could use it on the left side dash and not just the center (the only smooth area on the dash). I got the mount in, and went to put it on the left side on the light textured surface, it would not stick at all, I then thought, that's fine, placement with the old unit in the center worked just fine and I only wanted it on the left as an option...No big deal. I move it to the center and it would not seal on it either, even after putting allot of force and trying to get it to seal while pushing down the lever. In a last effort I took it into my office and tried to stick it to the very smooth fake wood surface of my desk, it still would not seal, I ended up getting it to seal on the glass table in the break room, but that was the only surface it would stick to, total waste of money, they really need to work on the base of this thing, or maybe I got a lemon. I will say that the magnet part of the unit works very well, even through my case it holds onto the phone very strong, I can hold it in my hand and shake it pretty hard before it even starts to move/slide, far more than it will ever see in a car unless you are rally racing with your phone on the dash. however, if the unit/suction cup does not work, the unit as a whole is no good to me. *UPDATE* Ended up taking a heat gun to the suction cup and was able to get it to stick to the dash, after heat and allot of pressure it seemed to work...Until I found the next short fall. While the magnet is strong and seems to hold good, even with shaking in my hand, on the dash, with small road vibrations, over time (less than 10mins in most cases) it would shake it self off and my phone would fall to the floor, the cover over the magnet does not have enough texture/friction to keep the phone from sliding, I think the magnet is strong enough, but without any friction the small vibrations over time let the phone slip to the point the magnet no longer has enough pull and the phone falls. After this last issue I tossed the thing in the trash and just ordered another brand/style, will see how the next one does.
