This protected my lens when I dropped it it shattered the outer layer but kept the original lens safe, so I bought a new one to keep it protected.

First I will note did not use this filter in it it's normal state I only used it for the glass to construct a solar filter. Before I did anything I examined the glass it is very clear unblemished and smooth and flat, no smears or other imperfections that I could see under magnification. Sounds like optical quality glass to me. Digital cameras have a UV filter built into the sensor unit so are not effected by UV, I have personally seen no real difference with a UV filter on or off. There may be a big difference if used on a film camera. The only real benefit to use a UV filter like this on a digital camera is to provide some lens protection, keep in mind this is built as a "filter" not lens protector so it is not constructed as one. Lens protectors are actually manufactured for just that purpose. That leads to the next point, filter construction. The filter ring is low profile and thin so vignetting should not be much issue. The ring is aluminum and the retaining ring is plastic which is easily pried out (perfect for my use) the threads are fine so if you have course thread may be tricky for you to get on (and off) your lens, or stacking on another filter. It did go on my Sigma 50-500 without to much trouble, course thread on that. Back to the protector part I still think this would do the job of shielding your lens from a bump into a door knob or such, hopefully you never have to find out first hand! It is certainly better than having nothing there at all. Another thing to note about this filter is the lack of coating, at least the kind that is used on other much more expensive ones. It says Multi-Coating on the ring but Multi-Coating can be seen as a yellowish green tint, I did not see it present on this filter. I have high end expensive UV filters and the tint is clearly visible at certain angles. The filter could be coated with something just not sure what. Coating increases light transmission and so reduces flair. I give this four stars since it did the job for me and appears to be a good basic Clear Lens Filter/ Protector/ Shield. You certainly cannot beat the price.

Fit perfect

What I have found with my telephoto lenses is that a UV filter always has a negative impact on the image regardless of the price. As you get to a wider lens the impact of the UV filter is less. The 105mm I purchased is very large and able to protect my lens from the elements in my camera trap. No quality is diminished because I am using a flash and not the sun. I personally just baby my gear and never use UV filters unless I need to protect it in my weatherproof housing. For this application it is perfect. For $10 this is a great product and it is important to note the consequences of any UV filter. I have $100 uv filters and still they will have some impact when applied to my large telephotos.

I bought this 95mm UV filter to protect the front lens of my new Sigma 150-600mm Sport. As others have noted, the filter produced blurry images at all apertures and lengths. VERY disappointing. It is also very clear that the filter does NOT have any kind of real multi-coating. I will say, however, that I had no problem with screwing the filter in, and no scraping sounds while doing it. That is unfortunately the only 'good' thing I can say about this somewhat worthless filter. This is a classic example of the old adage "you get what you pay for". It is a ONE STAR, poor product in my opinion, and suggest strongly avoiding if you are after quality images from you lenses. I will look elsewhere for a better UV filter and have learned my lesson! These are well-made and perfectly sized Rear Lens and Body Caps for ALL Sony E mount cameras and lenses. Rigid plastic construction, these are built to last and fit perfectly for E mount needs. At this price, it is worth buying even if you don't have an immediate need. They will always be readily available should you lose or misplace a cap when you really need it....and that happens frequently for many photographers! Perfect size, construction, and material. Unequivocally a Five Star winner and a tremendous value at the price offered on Amazon!
