Ignore Negative Reviews-iLap is Great!
If you are thinking of buying a laptop stand, your search is over. The iLap is an excellent product that will extend the life of your computer. Let's look at the big picture: the iLap might seem expensive at first, but consider how much you would pay to replace your laptop. The iLap is designed so you can use your computer in a more comfortable way. Plus, it pulls heat from your laptop, and heat is the enemy of any electronic device. A cooler computer runs more efficiently and should last longer. As you read some of the other reviews, you see that some people have given the iLap a good score, but they complain about the price. That is short sighted. I find the iLap to be a simple and effective product, that will give me more quality time with my computer. That just makes good sense, and I think the iLap is fairly priced. As far as quality, I have had no problems with construction or function. This stand is solid and sturdy, and the cushions stay in place. The front one is easily removed and reattached when necessary. The iLap is comfortable to use either on a lap or a desk. I noticed right away that my Mac runs cooler than ever, and the fan rarely comes on. That shows that the aluminum base removes heat from the computer. Honestly, I looked at every laptop stand on the market, and the iLap is clearly the best choice. Whether you have a PC or a Mac, you can choose an iLap to best fit your computer. My iLap is a superior product and is fairly priced. My advice: buy it, and don't pay attention to those negative reviews. I like mine so much that I bought one for my daughter who just graduated from college! The iLap is a lot like my Mac: IT JUST WORKS!

Versatile, Ultra Lightweight, Well Constructed, and the Best Laptop Stand I Have Ever Owned!
I simply love this iLap stand. I ordered the 13-inch size shortly after getting my 13.3" Macbook Pro in November (which I also love!). The stand is attractive, therapeutic in design, very lightweight and well constructed, keeps cool, and fits my Mac pro perfectly. I love that I can use it either on a table/desk top or on my lap (which I mainly do) with equal ease, and with less strain to wrists, neck, and shoulders due to its unique design. The front of the base features a removable wrist rest which is padded and covered with a velvety material; it is very comfortable and offers good wrist support. The back base is also padded and swivels to fit my lap comfortably. Because of the price and unique design, I almost went for a more traditional type stand - but I am so glad I went with this one. I would highly recommend this Rain Design iLap Laptop Stand (10023) to laptop users, especially those seeking a versatile stand that will be equally at home on a desktop as it is on a person's lap, and is lightweight enough to take on the go.

Indispensable! Owned it for 8 months and can't live without it. Updated after using it for 2.5 years, 5 years, and 9.5 years!!
At the bottom, I've updated a couple of comments now that I use the iLap for my MacBook Pro. I bought my iLap in July of 2006 for my PowerBook G4. I was having problems with my PowerBook being unbearably hot when placed on my lap so I decided to give the iLap a try. The iLap has surpassed my expectations. I feel absolutely no heat on my lap from my PowerBook even though I use my PowerBook many hours at a time, every day. The hinged front and back cushions offer enough flexibility that I can use the iLap in many different positions, such as sitting up or laying on my back on the couch. I also find the cushions offer enough support that I don't have problems with discomfort from the weight or metal of my PowerBook or the iLap itself. I have not had the slipping problem others have reported. My iLap came with 4 rubbery pads that grip the PowerBook very well. If I do notice any slippage, all I have to do is clean the pads and the feet on my PowerBook, and the slippage stops completely. I have to clean it maybe every 2 or 3 months which is very reasonable. I constantly walk around with my PowerBook on my iLap, and the grip is so good that I have to be careful to remind myself that they are not truly attached because I sometimes find myself not holding my PowerBook as securely as I should. So far, in 8 months of use, the iLap has not allowed my PowerBook to slip even with my occasional carelessness. The iLap has held up very well after 8 months. The cushions have not degraded, the front cushion remains firmly attached (although, I usually don't take it off as there's no need), and while I'm sure the cushions must be dirty by now, you wouldn't know it by looking at it. I have used a lint remover on the cushions a couple of times to clean up cat hairs when my cat thinks my closed PowerBook is her personal warmed napping spot, but that's about as much care as my iLap has needed. I have found my iLap to be so good that I take it everywhere I go, including finding ways to put it in suitcases when I go out of town. The hinged front cushion helps greatly when packing it, and it's stood up well through many plane rides in the front pocket of suitcases that were checked in. I can't say enough good things about my iLap. It is one accessory that I find completely indispensable for my laptop usage and comfort. It receives my highest of recommendations, especially considering how well it's held up for so long. UPDATE: I have now used my same iLap for 2.5 years! I still can't live without it! I have had a MacBook Pro for about 1.5 years now, and continue to use my iLap with it. I finally did run into slipping problems as the rubbery pads hardened with age. But I found a great way to resolve this issue. When I bought my MacBook Pro, I immediately put it in a clear hardshell case to protect it. To stop it from slipping on the iLap, I simply put velcro on my hardshell case and on the iLap. Now the MacBook Pro stays put without any slipping at all no matter how I position it. If you give velcro a try, I suggest putting the soft side on the Mac's case and the hook side on the iLap itself. That way when you take your Mac somewhere in which you don't take the iLap, the velcro on the bottom isn't a problem. I also wanted to comment that I ended up removing the cushion in the front of the iLap, and I have found it to be very comfortable on my lap without it. I've used Macintosh computers since 1986, and this is one accessory that I have used the longest. I cannot be happier that I bought it. UPDATE 2: Wow, I ran across my old review and just realized that I've been using my iLap for over 5 years! It's still doing great! I'm now using it with my 3rd computer, and still can't imagine being without it. I use this thing every single day for many hours each day. Amazing value to get this much use out of a product. It's still just as good as ever! UPDATE 3: This has to be the longest I have ever used a computer accessory. It has now been 9.5 YEARS, and it's still going strong! I bought this iLap on July 12, 2006. Today is Jan 28, 2016. In just a few months, it will be 10 years old! A decade! What computer accessory ever lasts that long, especially when you use it almost all day long every day during that time! I am a long-time computer addict so trust me when I say I use this stand every day for most of the day (I do have to sleep sometimes LOL). Okay, by now the cushion has flattened down (that's to be expected), but the iLap still very comfortable, still stops the heat on my lap, and still prevents scratches when I set it down on wood surfaces. Also, one of the bolts that holds the back swivel part has loosened up a bit on one side, but that does not affect the iLap's ability to do its job. In fact, if I didn't look at the joints, I wouldn't have noticed any change at all. I guess one day the rivet will finally give in, maybe pop through its hole. If that happens, I will absolutely get another iLap. Definitely one of my best buys ever!

Better than all the others, though it has one weakness
Used with 15" Powerbook G4 and HP Pavilion ze4900 First things first. I like it, and it is really comfortable and quite stylish, but...as others have mentioned in the reviews, the wrist pad really needs to be secured better. If you pick it up and shake it, the wrist pad flops around. Its just that the foam inside is not in any way secured to the fabric that surrounds it, so the velcro that connects it to the metal only holds the fabric. Looking at the photo I thought the pad somehow slipped onto the metal tray. Just a bit of a disappointment. That being said, the velcro does keep the pad connected well, as in it doesn't easily come off. As for the cooling properties of the iLap, it does keep your lap from getting hot, since it actually lifts the laptop off your lap, but I don't know if it really acts like a heat sink as the description says. It just keeps the fans on the bottom from getting blocked by the fabric of your pants or bedsheets. Perhaps it would work like that for my Powerbook if i took the pads off, but I doubt it. Air circulation underneath probably does just as much for it. I used the little rubber sticky pads it came with (not sure if they used to come with these, but they do now) and they keep both of my laptops from sliding around. My Powerbook still gets pretty hot, but at least now only my palms suffer, and my lap isn't scorching hot. I'll be sure to tell my future children to send thank-you letters to Rain :)

Perfect in every way! Just buy it.
I searched countless hours looking for just the right laptop stand. Some have fans via USB, some are big and bulky, the list goes on and on. There are times in life where all you need to do is "Keep it simple" That's what they did at Rain Design, they designed a beautiful, yet elegant, functional, durable well thought out laptop stand. The aluminum design offers light weight which was very important to me. I bought the Macbook Air because I wanted the lightest quality laptop I could buy. It would not make any sense to have a light laptop and use it with a heavy, bulky laptop stand. The cushion on the front is greatly appreciated in reducing the stress on my wrists by supporting them. The aluminum helps to cool the laptop and prevents me from accidentally blocking the poorly located heat exhaust vents {its on the bottom vs. the back. Its very easy to block these vents and fry your computer if you rest your laptop on a pillow or comforter while using the computer in bed. Bottom line is I like this laptop stand so much that I bought a second one for the other Macbook Air I own and keep on a different level in my house. As I said earlier in the title of this review "Just buy it" I assure you that it will be one of the better purchasing decisions you can make in this lifetime.

Good, but could work better
The slogan on the box this comes in says "Stay cool. Wherever." Not so much The stuffed pads are thick and covered in black velveteen. I have it on my lap right now and it's very warm. I bought this for someone disabled, so she wouldn't have to hold her laptop with one hand to keep it on her lap. But because she can't regulate her body temperature and becomes either freezing cold or blazing hot at a moments notice, she can't use this as is. Unfortunately the covering is not detachable so I can't replace the pad cover. So unless I can think up something to put over the pads that's both rough enough to keep the stand on her lap and keeps out the heat of the velveteen and stuffing, it's not too useful to her until winter. While it was wise to use a material that would grip, I hope the company will consider using a cooler material in the future. As for the surface area, it's lightweight and and seems to support the laptop, so long as your legs stay still. The edges and corners are smooth and the wrist rest (for lack of a better term) can be detached to leave more lap room. It would be nice if there were a way to attach the computer to the stand, such as clips or a strap. But thankfully there are plenty of ways to improvise that. All in all, it's a good stand and lap desk and I'll try to make use of it. But I hope the company will consider improving it eventually.

Impressive!!
I've been using my Mac computer for the pass 3 years. Several months ago my computer started to overheat after a few minutes. It would get so hot to the point that I could hear the computer fans working at full speed. Since then I tried 3 computer cooling pad and a ThermaPak cooling. Some work little to none. After unsuccessful attempts trying to find a product to cool my computer I decided to give a chance with this Rain Design product. I was very skeptical because of how does the heat sink through the aluminum plus the price was a little over my budget. I decided to paid a little bit extra for the cooling product than continue damaging my computer system (and paying more) because of the heat. Once I got this I was very impressed! My computer hasn't gotten hot and I don't hear my computer fans anymore. Worth the price! Also it looks very stylish! If you have a Mac computer that overheats just go ahead an invest on this product. I'm now regretting wasting my money from previous cooling pad purchases, All that money could have went towards this product.

The best lap desk available for Macs
Tried a couple of other lap desk with my 13" MacBook all of them were to big felt cheap and cumbersome. the ilap is just the right size and with the rubber dots supplied with the ilap installed the MacBook stays put. the velvet pads also keep the ilap secure and prevents sliding and slipping that you experience with other lap desk. My MacBook has been on the ilap since I received it. Overall this is a simple but very well designed product a little pricey but I wasted a lot trying the other cheaper alternatives this one is worth every penny. It also keeps your Mac much cooler providing about 1/2 an inch of air space below your Mac with the rubber dots installed.

Perfect Macbook Companion
I was looking for a comfortable yet stylish stand for my MacBook. After looking around, the iLap suits my requirements perfectly. Looks great, the aluminium really matches my MacBook. The cushion is soft and comfortable. It can adjusted to suit your position. Furthermore, my MacBook does not overheat with this stand. I take it with me everywhere and use it all the time. Slightly overpriced for the type of product, but I've had it for over 2 years and it is still in mint condition. Would recommend to all!
