IT WORKED!!!
OK...so I never owned a cat before. Got my kitten back in December of 2010 and had already purchased the Omega Pet Litter Box that you tip over and all of the clumps go into a pull out draw. It is the best cat litter invention that I have seen, unfortunately after a few weeks of him coming home with me he would pee in the Omega and intermittently poop in it but as the days went by there was more poop on the floor than in the litter box. I tried everything to get him to poop in the Omega with no success. I researched and researched online to find out what I was doing wrong. I did think the large size Omega was an OK in size but he quickly looked a little snug in it even at 7 pounds. I finally brought him back to the vet to be checked and everything turned out fine, there was nothing wrong with him medically. So, at the vet's suggestion I purchased another litter box because apparently some cats like to pee in one box and poop in another. So being a new cat owner I followed his suggestion and purchased this open top litter box as my cat's second box. It isn't that big so make sure you look at the size of this box to ensure it will work for you. I placed the litter box in the bathroom and what do you know he is doing his business in the open top litter box and not using the covered one at all. No more pooping outside the box. YAY!!! Again, being a first time cat owner, I did not know that the position in which a cat pees is different than when he poops. Apparently when he pooped he was sitting up higher in the covered litter box which I guess he didn't like because his head was close or touching the cover. So, thank goodness for this open top litter box. The sides are high which keeps the litter in the box for the most part yet lets my cat have the space he needs to do all of his business. I would highly recommend this product. I love that it came with a scooper too! I would not hesitate to buy this litter box, for the price....you can't go wrong. : )

Not the best... but pretty close!
When I first recieved these boxes (I bought 2) I was a little disapointed. The sheild on one was cracked in the corner. I was going to send it back but decided I would just try to super glue it instead of dealing with the hassle and it's been working fine. My male cat is a BIG fat boy and while I do admit he looks a little cramped in there he uses the box with very little trouble. My female has no problems whatsoever and she is also a large cat. I used to sweep around the litter boxes 3 to 4 times and now just once a day with my regular cleanup. That is the biggest plus to these boxes. I have the openings of the boxes facing each other with a litter mat in between to catch whatever gets stuck on my babies feet. Works like a charm! I wanted to address a few things other reviewers have complained about. 1) Yes there is a trough around the bottom that occasionally has collected yucky litter but if you don't dilegently scoop the box everyday that's going to happen with any box! I'll admit I get busy and forget to scoop for 2 or 3 days. but it takes just a smidgen of a second longer to scrape up the stuck on clump with the included scoop. 2) Which is another bonus btw! The scoop works great! The fact that it clips to box is nice too. I clip mine with the yucky end inside the box. I hangs on better that way. Someone posted a pic with the scoop on the outside and it just falls off there on me. 3)The sheild does NOT just sit on the box it does actually clip on. A little tough to get it clipped but once it is on it will NOT move! I know because my girl likes to scratch on the sheild after she does number 2 and she is not gentle! 4)My cats are not "high" aimers so I can't comment on pee seeping through the sheild and box but I can imagine that to be true, my boxes do have a enough of a gap that it is possible. It is impossible for ANY litter box to completely contain kitty litter. But this one has managed to keep more litter INSIDE than other boxes we used to have. I highly recommend this box. In fact when it's time to replace my boxes in another year or so (just because my cats SCRATCH the bottoms of boxes so bad that the kitty litter becomes stuck in the scratches and it's hard to scrub out) I will buy 2 more of these.

Good deal, but weird shape.
I brought home a pregnant stray last summer. I bought 4 of these after the 3 kittens were big enough to "go" on their own. I read other reviews commenting on the poor design and I completely agree. I have used all different kinds of litters, especially when the kittens were deciding on the kind they liked the best. I currently use Dr. Elsey's, which clumps well and handles all of that four cats can dish out. However, the way the box is shaped makes it very difficult to scoop litter from the 2 indentations in the front, which I swear my cats aim for. The clumps usually break up, making it difficult to cleanly scoop out dirty litter. The scooper that comes with it is small, making it good for reaching in those corners, but doesn't do a great job scooping out the little clumps. While the shape is a drawback, I found that simply turning the box around and putting the lid on backwards seems to help a lot. After cleaning the litter box, I accidentally put the shield/lid on backwards, so the opening faces out and the "front" of the box with indentations was in the back. The lid snapped on and stayed on fine. In fact, it wasn't until I scooped that I even noticed it was on wrong. That little "maneuver" makes scooping easier because the clumps are going into those indented corners. So, overall, this liter box is a great deal. You can't beat the price. They have withstood 3 growing kittens and a heavy mama cat well. I clean them a lot, and I haven't had any problems. I hope my review helps, or at least helps someone else scoop more easily from the box. It would be a shame to pass out a good deal because of the odd shape. With 4 cats, 2 dogs, 2 birds, and a gerbil, this product serves my needs while also being affordable.

a fat cat's dream!! - can withstand my 18 lb beast and no one is kicking litter onto the floor anymore
I have a Maine Coon that is 18 lbs so it's really hard for him to keep his business in the litter box if it's covered lol. I had a booda dome but he got stuck every time he tried to get back out of it and ended up taking the lid off with him. Comical to watch, but not so fun to clean afterwards. I also have a kitten that kicks litter EVERYWHERE if there ISN'T a lid on the litter box, so I was stuck in the middle. I found this litter box when moving into my new house and trying to find a good solution, and this was PERFECT. It's tall enough that the little one doesn't kick litter out anymore, and not having a full cover on it means my beast sized cat doesn't get stuck anymore. This litter box was so great I ended up buying a second one for the upstairs bathroom. It comes with a scooper that fits nicely into slots on the corner of the lid, or a hook on the scooper that hooks onto the outside of the box. It's convenient so we don't lose the scooper or leave it on the floor where it can be kicked or just look gross and in the way. I really love this litter box and I can't recommend it enough. It's built to last and thick plastic, so if you have a fat cat like I do, have no fear! It can withstand the weight of even the fattiest of fatties!! Also, this is a really great price for a litter box. If you do shopping around, this is the price you would typically find for a very basic, low to the ground box, and that is with plastic that cracks and breaks after a short time. I've used these for almost 6 months and there is no wear and tear to them yet. I'm more than satisfied with my purchase.

So very close to purrfect!
I purchased this Open-Top Litter Box for my plethora of cats. I have two house cats and two stray cats that have decided they live with me. Four cats poop a LOT. So so much poops. So I thought I would give this litter box a try for my problem poopers. They do say you should have multiple boxes for multiples cats, and I wanted to test out one box first before I bought a whole bunch of boxes. I was have a variety of cat poop issues: *Digging all the litter out and spreading it all over the floor. *Pooping right on the edge of the box. (Ew) Hanging their fat butts out of the box and missing the box. (Ew) *Pooping NEXT to the box, because their was litter all over the floor from someone who was not grasping the proper form for litter box useage. I got tired of the poop issues and my husband complaining about it and the makings of our Cat Army, so I purchased this IRIS litter box. Its SO close to perfect! The price is decent. (I don't know why they charge more for certain colors than others. Just buy the cheapest one. Trust me, your cat does not care what color it is.) Even my largest cat, a 15ish Maine Coon mix fits in the box. Its deep, so plenty of room for lots of litter. Pros: The sides are high and they snap securely onto the litter box. I don't bother to take the shield off when I scoop, why make more work? So far it has solved my cat poop issues: No more litter flung all over my floor (and hooray, no more pooping next to the box!) No more pooping on the edge of the box. No more pooping out the back of the box. No pee run off from when someone hangs their fat kitty behind out of the box! One of my cats jumps over the side instead of using the opening, so far he has not tipped the box. Its a nice large size for my plethora of cats. Its nice and deep, so you can put a fair amount of litter in it. I checked, and I did not see any pee leakage where the top snaps on or run off on my floor. Cons: Toss the scoop out. It sort of hangs on the box. The holes are much too big. If you forget and buy the wrong cat litter that doesn't clump, it will not pick up the little bits of litter. Its a terrible cat litter scoop. Who designed the front of this box? Like other reviewers have mentioned, it was not someone with a cat. Or they did not actually test it with a cat. Its got this annoying lip/indentation on the bottom, and the corners indent too. I briefly thought "Maybe it won't be bad, Maybe they won't pee in this corner" They do. Of course they do. Its annoying, the clumps of pee get into the corners, and you have to dig it out, usually making smallish clumps that the litter scoop won't pick up! It seriously needs a redesign. It was so so close to being the perfect litter box. I wish I could award a half star here, its not really a three star, not really a four. If you are not having any of the issues that I was having with my problem poopers, then this is likely not the litter box for your Cat Army. The indentations and the daily digging out of the stuff in the corners is probably going to drive you nuts.

good size with high enough sides to keep my wall-scratcher satisfied
I recently moved to a new apartment with more space for a litter box so I decided to up-size and get something high sided since my kitty likes to scratch up walls in an attempt to cover her business. She also has some vision issues and as a result doesn't like to use dark or fully enclosed boxes. Some of the negative reviews had me nervous, but I can debunk a few of those. This litter box is NOT small. It isn't the biggest one I've ever seen, but it is certainly bigger than my previous one that was still big enough for an 18 lb cat. The corners aren't square but I have had no problems with wet litter getting stuck in the corners, I've actually had less trouble with this one since it is big enough to hold more litter. If you do have this problem, instead of tossing the litter box you should look for a better scoopable litter and/or scoop at least every few days. I use EverClean extra strength, it comes in a blue box or bag with a white cat on the front, and it is by far the best litter I've ever used for both clumping and smell reduction. The upper section of the litter box is a separate piece and as a result does not form a tight seal with the lower section. My cat isn't a sprayer, but if yours is you will most likely have some leak through with this box and should keep looking for something that is a single piece. Overall, this box is exactly what I was looking for for my picky kitty. We've had no problems with wall scratching since making the switch, she likes the extra space without a closed top, and the price can't be beat. No complaints over here!

Great item and would definitely recommend!
Litter box worked out great! Our 2 kittens like to dig like dogs in the cat litter and end up with cat litter everywhere with the shorter litter boxes. (It's a game sometimes but while fun for the cat, not so much for the owner.) This litterbox is about the same size as our other ones (so I can use our existing litterbags and fill with the same amount of litter as always) but with the taller sides so now when the cats dig like dogs, MOST of the litter actually stays in the box. I haven't yet had to use the top piece because I wanted to see if just using the bottom half would do the trick and so far it has. If the kittens start to kick the litter over the taller-sided box as they get bigger, then I will add the top piece. Either way, we like this design because we refuse to buy litterboxes with "lids". Not all cats will use a litterbox with a lid because some cats are afraid of enclosed spaces. And from an owner's point of view, while we clean our litterbox daily, litterboxes with lids can't air out like an open-air box so everytime you go to clean the box or change the litter, you get overdosed on litterbox smell once you take the lid off the box. This is a great design and a win-win situation for both cat and owner! As an added benefit, it's also nice that the scoop hooks on to the side of the box to keep it off the floor. We liked the box so well that we ordered a 2nd one about 3 days after the first one arrived and we would recommend this box to any cat owner whose cat likes to keep more litter outside of the box than in it regardless of how much litter you start off with in the box.

Litter-ly a Good Box
It's been cat tested .. and then tested ... and then ... oh my gawd what did you EAT? Tested. It works. My cats are all tall to mid-lard sized little heifers. I was having issues with 2 of them - Sammi the Weasel likes to stick her butt out the front of the box and pee all over the floor. Yoda Boda likes to dig a hole to China then scratch the walls down to fill said hole in (this goes on FOREVER) all while making sure everything in 20 foot radius is equally covered in litter for good measure, then he plunks his butt down right in the center to pee before bolting out like lightning just smacked him which serves his nefarious purpose of making litter trails across the entire house as he completely avoids touching down on the litter mats. Pepper Spray can contain herself and her bizniz to a box but she dislikes the openness of regular ones ... however she's a wee bit umm, FAT, for a regular hooded box. I checked out the expensive pet stores (you know the ones!) and they did not have anything that would meet all 3 of my precious sugar woogums cow sized elimination habits. Then I ordered Iris CLH-12 Open-Top Litter Box with Shield and Scoop, installed it between my shower & human litter box and voila! Problems mostly solved. Sammi the Weasel can no longer shove her butt out the front edge, Pepper Spray doesn't look like an awkward fat-ass stuffed in a tiny box, and Yoda Boda isn't flinging excavation treasures like a Tasmanian devil all over the entire room. The box lid is a little awkward because of the weird small area of where it barely clips onto the box. If you got sprayers or super high pee-ers, this will be a problem. It might accommodate bags easier than a regular hooded box, however I don't know that for sure, I haven't tried it with a bag yet since my demon-boy just shreds them into "sifter" bags anyway. He hasn't been able to ninja-kick it off yet, so yay! The included scoop is SMALL, but it has a cool handle hook that allows it to hook onto the lid of the box or open-hood. But hey, the scoop is a bonus and what cat poop-scooping person doesn't already have like 5 of those things anyway? The size is okay, its designed high not super lengthy or extra wide. It works, but it could be bigger which would make it more comfortable for my canine sized fur balls. Its only slightly wider than my regular litter box [very slightly]. If you are looking for a high sided wider one, check out one that looks like a baby bath tub (seriously it does), but you pretty much need fur balls with no litter box issues to brave a non-hood design [if you got one ... you could make a killing in breeding it!]. In short, if you need a hood with out the ceiling and don't have super high pee-ers/sprayers, this design will work. It's high enough to contain, but doesn't brush my butt and freak me out when I'm doing my bizniz either [its right beside my toilet, I'm not using the litter box I swear].

Great product, does what it says
Does the job it needed to do to perfection. Thoroughly recommended for cats who have problems keeping the used litter in the tray afterwards!

Zweckdienlich

Needed to purchase larger liners which were reasonably easy to get on line
A lot less mess with litter spillage, hardly any. Needed to purchase larger liners which were reasonably easy to get on line. Happy with the poroduct
