SplashGuard-Universal

This is very basic. It's a silicone splash guard. Fits into standard water bottles like Nalgene liter bottles. It is a soft, flexible silicone that you can bend with your fingers. Slots into place and stays there — but since it's flexible, you can push it down or reposition it if you want to. It is not going to fall out of place with normal movement of the water bottle, or even shaking (unless maybe if you shake it very aggressively and continuously). There is an air vent on one side and the drinking aperture on the other. It prevents water from splashing you in the face. Not much else to say — it does the job. Would buy again (and I have).

Works great for wide mouth bottles. Just make sure you remove it and let it dry out over night. It’s silicone so it will grow mold if you leave it in a wet bottle for days at a time

I have to admit, I didn't expect much from a small piece of plastic, and I wasn't really sure what it was for; but I thought what the heck- Ill give it a try. I bought this to go with our Nalgene 48oz Tritan Bottle. It fits perfect. It sits just inside the mouth opening perfectly. It doesn't fall in or out, but its easily removed for washing. Its dishwasher safe. The whole idea of this is to pack your Nalgene with ice, take a drink, and avoid getting a face full of ice. It does its job perfectly. Its easy to drink through, in fact I prefer having it in then not. Look, just buy it. Its cheap, high quality, it will last forever, and if you like ice, you can't live without this. *************************** UPDATE: SEPTEMBER 2012 *************************** I wrote my original review on this product in December 2010. I've now owned this product for a total of 1 year, 9 months. This splashguard fits in all of our 32oz to 48oz Nalgene containers. It still fits, operates and looks as good as the day I received it. These are perfect for wide mouthed, 32 oz nalgene bottles. I know this because I have at least 10 of these water bottles and sometimes I can't find my SplashGuards. I have tried the other brands before, but they just didn't quite work for me. Guyot Designs SplashGuard-Universal are good. They fit, I trust them, they are colorful and I can usually match one with whatever water bottle I am using. Frankly, I wish there were more colors available at reasonable prices. I buy these every time I need one for a new bottle!

I bought this Splash Guard with a huge 1.5L nalgene, it fits snug inside the wide mouth of this bottle. It works perfectly as advertised. but if you already drink from wide mouth bottles and have already learned from your splashy mistakes, you don't need this. Pros are obvious, 2nd hole allows good flow, keeps water from tsunami-ing out from wide mouth bottle onto your face. Makes "waterfalling" (letting the water fall into your mouth instead of putting mouth on bottle) much easier. I think that's the selling point of this doohicky. Cons: whereas you could drink a open wide mouth bottle from any side, you have to orient the bottle around so that the mouth faces you before you drink. that's about the only thing. If you don't want your upper lip to touch/dirty the splashguard with chapstick or whatever you have to back off a bit or change your embouchure. Other Thoughts: changes the drinking experience. This can be good or bad. I've used the wide mouth nalgene for 4 years or so and am used to drinking it like a giant cup of water. Carefully. I don't need to be so careful anymore, but still am. I'm sure I'll get used to it, maybe I'll keep the loop of my bottle in the same place so when I open it I don't have to worry about reorienting the bottle to get the mouth in the right place. It's up to me to make the 5 bucks worth it by getting used to it. It's up to you to decide if paying maybe half the price of the bottle is worth buying this splash guard. Without the guard, it's basically like drinking from a cup. In the heat of a workout, this is worth it.

We love these splashguards - we have several that we've used for years for our 32oz wide-mouth Nalgene bottles, and our 24oz Camelbak bottles. They make drinking out of the bottles so much easier than without. Yes, you have to be a bit careful putting them in (push too hard, and it'll be at the bottom of the bottle), but even my five-year-old figured out how to do it without major issue when he was four. They're also really easy to wash, as you can put them in the top rack of the dishwasher with your water bottles (just hook the loop looking part over one of the prongs on the rack), or wash it by hand. So recently, when I decided to replace the drink containers in lunchboxes with 16oz wide-mouth Nalgene bottles, I bought more of these. After all, it does say "Universal" and that it fits most wide-mouth bottles, right? And Nalgene calls those 16oz wide-mouth bottles "wide-mouth" after all. However, much to my slight annoyance, they don't fit he 16oz wide-mouth Nalgene bottles. Yes, Nalgene calls them wide-mouth, and they are technically wider than a narrow-mouth water bottle, but they aren't as wide as the other "wide-mouth" bottles that Nalgene makes. Which makes these too large for those bottles. So if you're thinking of using these for the 16oz "wide-mouth" bottles, don't make the same mistake as me - look elsewhere. (There is a mini size which says it's supposed to fit the bottles, SPLASHGUARD MINI BLUE , but I haven't actually tried it yet myself.) If you've got the larger bottles, go for these, as they're fabulous.

Easy to clean. Fit tight into Nalgene bottles. Like all the different colors.
