I’ve been extremely happy with these NETGEAR GS305E switches. I currently use three of them, with one located in each room where I need multiple wired connections. They all feed back to a GS308E that serves as my core switch, which is connected to my Firewalla Gold. My main reason for choosing the GS305E was VLAN support. I wanted true network separation rather than simply adding more unmanaged switches throughout the house. I have different VLANs configured on the Firewalla, and setting up the GS305Es to carry the appropriate tagged VLAN traffic and assign individual ports to the correct networks was surprisingly easy. The web management interface is straightforward and gives you the controls that actually matter without turning configuration into an unnecessarily complicated project. Setting up 802.1Q VLANs, configuring tagged and untagged ports, and assigning the appropriate PVIDs was easy to understand. Once configured, I could have a single Ethernet run going into a room and then use the GS305E to put individual wired devices onto the appropriate VLAN. That made expanding my segmented network throughout the house much cleaner and easier than running additional dedicated Ethernet lines for every network. They’re also small, fanless, silent, and easy to tuck away in individual rooms. Despite being inexpensive switches, they provide the management features I needed to extend my VLAN architecture properly. For anyone running something like Firewalla and wanting to maintain VLAN separation across multiple rooms, these switches are a great solution. My three GS305Es combined with the GS308E core switch have given me a simple, reliable, and very flexible wired network without requiring expensive enterprise hardware. I would absolutely buy them again.

Finally, an affordable, next-level, production-grade Gigabit Networking Switch. I've had this switch for about a week now and just in that week alone I give it a full 5/5 stars. To better explain why: Without the ability to use VLANs prior to getting this switch, I risked non-isolated security standards. I now have the capability to connect each of my networked devices together, all in their own environment. Assigning VLANs is super easy using the User Interface on my local network, running on the switch. It's a nice plug-and-play UI that works out of the box with the switch. The size of the switch makes it super easy to integrate into even the bulkiest of home-labs; you'll be re-thinking your entire networking setup. One thing I've noticed is that the metal is extremely well-constructed and allows long-term use with minimal wear-and-tear over time. The fact that it distributes almost no heat even when in full use and fully-connected, is beyond my expectations for the price of this switch. It's nice to have a sturdy, reliable, and quiet switch that seamlessly integrates into my setup. Speaking of reliability and stability, it has saved me a few times having an actual interface I can access in the event I mess something up on one of the main devices connected to it; thus affecting other networking equipment. This works as a fallback in case I need to undo any changes you couldn't otherwise undo. I can sleep at night -- figurative and literally, knowing my network is secure from malicious attackers, and because the temperature/heat doesn't affect my small space at all; and noise is not being generated whatsoever. No fan, no noise! Heat sync does its job flawlessly.

Solid little gigabit switch with just enough “smart” features to be useful. Out of the box it works exactly like a normal unmanaged switch — plug it in and it just works. If you want VLANs or basic QoS, those are available through the web interface without being overly complicated. The one thing I’d recommend right away is updating the firmware. The update itself is easy, but the file you download comes as a ZIP and you need to extract it first — the switch only accepts the .bin file. That tripped me up for a minute. Accessing the web interface was straightforward once I checked my router’s DHCP list for the IP. There’s a Windows discovery tool, but I didn’t need it. Performance has been solid and it’s completely silent. The metal housing feels decent for the price and it runs cool. I Should be really giving this a 3 star due to lack of security of the device. This device uses the HTTP protocol and it sends your password in plain text over the network that anyone can grab out of thin air. But overall its a amazing switch it does 801.Q Vlan tagging and LAG groups it doesnt support 802.1AD tho wich is big miss but for a someones first switch i recommend it better then TP LINK by FAR

Great smart switch! Be sure to go to the website for more comprehensive instructions on configuring it. It is ready to go right out of the box, but you can really take advantage of some parameters by accessing the web-server within and configuring as you see fit. Full-transparency: I had trouble getting into the configuration through the LAN, but when connected just PC to Switch (not on a network) I was able to get in via its default IP address. Very rugged assembly..all metal case, clear identification of LED signals on the ports.

i was actually kinda surprised at how good this switch is. the management options surprise me, its apparently a layer 2+ switch, which means its able to do basic multicast, IGMP snooping stuff. it cannot be a queried, though, as it is not layer 3. the discovery tool is easy to use. love how is has stealth mode (turn off port indicator lights), as currently im using it in my homelab. no obvious flaws, and for $23 its honest really good.
