excellent, odorless 1qt canteen!
these Nalgene Oasis Canteens are the same shape and size as the traditional military canteens, made of metal and then plastic...but, this comes without any odor! even with a half full canteen of h20 left idle for a long period, there is still no odor, and if you place something other than h20 in it, there is no lingering taste or odor of that item. it is a very strong and durable material, this Eastman Tritan, and the Oasis 1qt is a perfect replica in size and shape to the canteens of the military. Nalgene Oasis Pros; • no odor • impact-resistant (very durable…i dare say, unbreakable!) • stain-resistant • BPA-Free • lightweight • attached leakproof top (no rubber seal, just seals via threading it down tight) • fits standard military Canteen Cover that attaches to belt of mission suspenders/belt kit, along with FA Kit, and pistol holster; Military Outdoor Clothing Previously Issued US GI OD Green Canteen Set with Suspenders • fits into standard military canteen cup; Rothco 3 Piece 1 Quart Canteen Kit With Cover & Aluminum Cup • effectively, a perfect replacement for the OD plastic 32oz. canteen that retains odors and is less durable... wish Nalgene was around and supplied the military when i served... we had the standard OD plastic that always smelled... of course, you just got used to it. • fits excellent in this vintage-look case with shoulder strap; Rothco Vintage Canvas Carry-All 1 Qt Canteen Cover With Shoulder Strap, Black ... my wife and i carry our Nalgene Oasis bottles in this shoulder-strapped case on short hikes with the dog (plus a silicone collapsible bowl) and we all stay nicely hydrated... :-) this case is durable and, also, has a convenient, little, velcro-closured pocket for a cell phone... a very nice feature! …for short hikes, the Nalgene Oasis Canteen, in a carrying cover like something above, can not be beat. Nalgene Oasis Cons; • none. these are superb 32 oz canteen bottles! we have now purchased three (3) Oasis canteens, as well as several other Nalgene bottles, and they all share the same high quality, durability, and odor-free standard... an excellent product! Nalgene also makes a slick 12oz. flask, that stows easily in a coat pocket or cargo pant pocket, with all the odor-free and other qualities of the canteens; Nalgene 12 Oz Flask, Blue lastly, i have tried many water bottles through the years and have found nothing that beats or even compares to Nalgene! very pleased, Thank you! :-)

An Upgraded Version of the Best Water Bottle Ever Devised
The military-style canteen design is probably the most underrated piece of basic military kit every devised. The contoured design holds an entire quart of water in a much smaller profile than a cylindrical water bottle. With the contoured design, you can affix the canteen in a pouch against your body comfortably and without it hanging off or sticking out. It's also much more comfortable and natural to hold. Going hand-in-hand with the canteen is the canteen cup, and this bottle does fit perfectly with the GI canteen cup. The canteen cup takes up almost not additional space, as it nests perfectly with the canteen. It can be used as simple cup or mug, with hot or cold beverages, or as a bowl for your soup, or as a pot to cook with. The canteen and cup are two vital pieces of survival gear that nest perfectly together-- your water source and your ability to boil water and cook. Folks who use your standard cylindrical 32oz Nalgene bottles struggle to find a cup that nests with it, or they carry a cup/pot separately-- yet there's a great solution that has been around for decades right in front of them. The canteen + cup combination is brilliantly simple and, dare I say, perfect. The Nalgene version of the canteen is, in my opinion, superior to the standard GI issue canteen *for civilian use*. First of all, it doesn't come with that pre-used, standard issue canteen taste. But aside from that, it's transparent and the material is one of the finest on the market. I can't say this for sure, but I feel that the Nalgene material is easier to clean and less likely to leave a plastic taste. Is it a "military grade" item? I can't say for sure, as I don't know the detailed requirements the military has for the canteen and there are rigorous tests that go into it that the Nalgene hasn't been put through, as far as I'm aware. For instance, is it flame retardant, will it melt easily, is it UV resistant, does it meet standards for impact resistance, etc. Overall, it's a 5-star item, in my opinion. I wish the cap was secured a bit better and the mouth was a bit wider, but that doesn't detract from the 5 stars. You can't go wrong with this bottle.

The best canteen I have ever owned, had to buy a second. Bought in 2014, reviewing 4 years later.
Upon research, the US GI issued canteens tend to smell like plastic. The Uncle Sam canteens also have issues with functionality and durability mostly because I suspect that the company who won the government contract was selling the cheapest product and was thus the lowest price to bid on. It appears that there are some troops on here who have purchased these Nalgene canteens as a replacement. The durability of these canteens is tried and true. When I first bought them, I was 21 and still in college. Now I am 25 and a working adult, and these water bottles have served as a constant. There is no smell of plastic, they have been dropped off of my bike, slammed around, put in the dishwasher, and used daily. There are small superficial signs of wear on the canteens as shown, but this was from being ground down on asphalt or scraped about imprudently. Such damage was superficial and had no impact on functionality. If it wasn't enough that these canteens have been reliable and durable for years now, these canteens are even made in the USA. Quality products made in the USA are a rarity nowadays. Plastic is very bad for the environment so the amount of care this company made in making these canteens is a responsible usage of plastic, good for the United States economy, and pays respect to the environment. It should be said that the reason I am gushing about this product is not because I have anything to gain, it was not gifted to me by the company for quid quo pro, or anything of the sort if you doubt the validity of my review. It's just that in an age where everything is cheaply made in China with planned obsolescence, this product seems like a last of the Mahicans. In short: - product is durable and held up beautifully after 4+ years of abuse - made in the USA - provides a reasonably priced and quality alternative for our troops I would like to make a small note that of course this product is not insulated so it might be best to fill with some ice and get a cover for the canteens for insulation. Cleaning the product is best with soap and water and a brush. If the canteen begins to get really funky in smell, I recommend using some Star San solution and it will smell good as new.

Excellent, superior alternative to round Nalgene bottles -- great for camping/bushcraft/outdoors
The Nalgene Oasis Bottle is an excellent alternative to the ubiquitous round-style Nalgene bottles, and in my opinion, a much better choice for most outdoor activities (hiking/camping, bushcraft, etc.). Like the round Nalgene bottles, the Oasis bottle holds a full 32 oz./1L of liquid. In fact, you can squeeze in a little extra--about 34 fl. oz. if you fill it all the way up to the neck. But it has a much more convenient form factor. Whereas round Nalgene bottles seem bulky and frequently tend to create pockets of dead space or uncomfortable bulges in a pack, the Oasis bottle has the traditional USGI Canteen shape (an exact match, in fact... it nests perfectly in a USGI Canteen Cup!). Looking down on it from above, its shape is almost rectangular shape: wider in one direction but considerably slimmer in the other, with a curve/dent on one side to give it the traditional curvature of a USGI Canteen. This results in at least two desirable benefits: 1. It is easier and more comfortable to pack in many packs or to wear on a belt. The rectangular shape nestles more naturally alongside other equipment with less deadspace, and the inward curvature/dent on one side, if turned inward, also prevents the uncomfortable bulging sensation that round Nalgenes (or other similar bottles) can cause when worn on a hip belt or close to the body. 2. It is easier and more comfortable to hold. When you pick up the Oasis bottle, your thumb nestles into the dent while the rest of your fingers follow the excellent curvature and wrap securely around the opposite side. This is absolutely more ergonomic than the wide round shape of typical Nalgene bottles, making it easier to hold onto with less pressure/fatigue and a surer grip, especially if your hands happen to be wet. So you're less likely to drop this bottle and more comfortable holding it as you drink. The plastic used to make the Oasis bottle is also noticeably less rigid (i.e., more "flexy") than the stiff lexan used to make the regular round Nalgenes. It also has a subtle grainy texture. Both of these qualities further improve the ergonomics, and the bottle seems no less durable than a regular lexan. (What it lacks in stiffness, it seems to make up in give/flex, still proving more than durable enough to survive hard falls onto hard surfaces without cracking.) I like it. Lastly, the narrow mouth is sufficiently large for easy filling/drinking (at least 50% wider than the mouth on a typical soda bottle), yet narrow enough to be considerably easier to drink/sip from than the more common, wide-mouth Nalgene bottles. The only shortcoming I notice in comparison with a traditional round Nalgene bottle is the lack of any measurement gauge on the Oasis bottle. That is the only feature I miss, but if you purchase a USGI canteen cup and use the tip of a nail to stamp mild dents in the metal to mark the most common measurements you desire, you can carry the Oasis bottle nestled inside the canteen cup, and use the latter whenever you need to measure out a specific amount of liquid for any reason. Alternatively, it wouldn't be difficult to paint or write measurement marks on the Oasis bottle with a permanent marker, though I suspect they would wear off and need regular touching up over time. If you're looking for a great, 1-liter bottle for hiking/camping/hunting/bushcraft, the Oasis bottle is an excellent choice. And if you're wanting an "upgrade" to the traditional USGI canteen (which is made of a less durable and also opaque plastic), this is a sure bet. Give the Oasis bottle a try. Well worth the $9 I spent. And I love the Coyote color as a discrete, nature/wilderness color instead of the brightly colored options you usually find for round Nalgenes.

Good substitute for GI canteen except....
I purchased this canteen to see if it would be a viable replacement for the usual OD plastic GI canteens. I was looking for something that would be backwards-compatible with all my older 'legacy' stuff...GI canteen cups, GI canteen pouches, etc. While the GI canteens are ok, they tend to hold smells/flavors and since they are opaque you can't tell if anything is growing in them. The Nalgene canteens seemed like a good idea for replacement. The Nalgene canteens *do* fit the older style canteen covers. (Newer, MOLLE-style, covers from aftermarket vendors like Spectre and Blackhawk will be a better fit if using a canteen cup. More on that in a moment.) The only detractor is that if you use the GI cover, you still have that bright blue cap sticking out of the cover. Two minutes with a black Sharpie can fix that or you can simply head up to REI and swap out for a different color cap. One major issue is that the Nalgene canteen does not fit into the GI canteen cup as well as it should. The result is that the cup/canteen combo is just too large enough to fit in the GI cover. In the aftermarket covers, theres more room and flexibility, but then you cant use your older gear. Other than the canteen cup issue I found the Nalgene canteen to be, for me, a better choice than the GI one. Summary: quality is excellent, durability should be great, taking away one star for not fitting into the canteen cup as well as the GI canteen. The Nalgene canteen is slightly heavier than the GI, and, of course, it's a bit more expensive. However, I think it's worth it for not having unseen mold grow in your canteen and eventually work its way into your gut.

New canteen for new generation
I've used military canteens since I was a kid in the 1960's. Had a Korean war aluminum 1 quart I carried in my saddle bags then. I have used the LC2 1 quart in an enhanced(fake fur lined for evaporative cooling on the plains) pouch on a belt and in my truck for EDC for the last 20 years. Have carried the 2 qt collapsible canteen on my saddle for the last 10 yrs. I got the Nalgene red tritan oasis canteen for my backpack because I wanted a light weight Nalgene product without the taste of mil canteens or BPA. The camelback bags are ok for reservoirs but I prefer the narrow mouth bottles to suckin on the tube(that's just my thing). The new tritan poly 1 qt mil spec canteen was the cat's meow because it is less bulky than the round bottles and would slide right in the side pouches on my backpack. Although, the other day I had it in my town truck and may have lost it to my girly girl wife who drank from it goin to town the other day. She says, "It's clean, don't stink and I can see what I'm drinkin". (We use filtered water from our house well.) I'll just have to get another one now for my pack. I liked it so good I got the coyote brown tritan canteen distributed under the Black Hawk name, for EDC in the truck, on horse and foot. It fits my pouches which have the mil spec stainless cup and stove to make a good basic survival hydration gear. This new generation canteen is clean, clear and tough. No funky plastic taste. Can't beat em for light weight, durability, sanitary and easy to clean for personal water carry.

Nalgene Oasis (this one) VS Nalgene Tritan/Sustain wide mouth
First of all, let me say that these are both amazing products. Here’s a few details on them to I help you find which will suit you needs. OASIS (this Nalgene bottle) -pro: slightly textured grip, easier to hold without being harder to clean. -Pro: smaller mouth means much easier to drink out of on the go, in the car, or even standing still, without dribbling all over yourself, which widemouth bottles are wonderfully famous for :/ -Pro: bottle design (inspired by the old school, G.I. issue bottles) is easier to hold and drink, and arguably better to fit in things. This does, of course, depend on where you put it, and what you need it to fit into, but for me personally if I’m putting it actually inside of my pack, or in a knapsack, it fits better, and is even less bulky if it’s just sitting in a side pocket of a pack where we normally carry water bottles, however, I don’t think just that in itself is enough to make a hard-core “pro” on the list. -Con: I don’t think anything as of yet makes any insulated holder for this, there are other holders you can get however, from what I’ve seen so far none of them are insulated to help keep your drink cool more than just a cloth covering. -Con: if you’re a fan of putting stickers on the outside of your bottle, the textured outside will not be your friend. -Con: no measurements (neither ounces nor milliliters) on the outside. This is a big deal for a lot of us who absolutely rely on our bottles for measurements when we’re in the backwoods backpacking or camping, or traveling or what have you. -Con: that small mouth that makes it easier to drink out of makes it much harder to clean (yes, even with a bottle brush) and many of the attachments that go on widemouth bottles, such as filtration systems, coffee making systems, and the like will not fit on this bottle. -Con: while it is very difficult to find cupholders that actually fit the other Nalgene bottle, it’s not completely impossible but you will never fit this in a cup holder. 32 oz TRITAN/SUSTAIN (the classic Nalgene widemouth bottle) -Pro- holds slightly more liquid. They both hold 32 ounces (I did the pour test, pouring all the liquid from this Nalgene, because it has measurements so I know exactly how much It’s Holding, into the oasis using a funnel to not loose a drop) but the oasis holds 32 ounces topped off (my guess is you’ll be left with apx 28- 30 not topped off, but keep in mind that is a rough estimate)… The Tritan holds 32 ounces at the 32 ounce line; top it off and you can squeeze somewhere in between 4 to 6 more ounces in there (that’s an estimate I don’t know exactly how many more) Pro: it has measurements on the side (ounces and milliliters) as referenced in the last “pro,” it’s a big deal, as also referenced in one of the previous bottle’s “cons”. Pro: widemouth makes it easy to clean, allows you to add ice cubes, and allows it to access a wide range of attachments helpful in the field! Pro: access to insulated bottle jackets, including those made by Nalgene. Pro: smooth outside allows you to smack stickers on the outside of it if that’s your thing! Pro: when not carrying water you can stuff extra stuff inside of it if storage is an issue. (Handy for backpackers and air travelers specifically) -Con: The only cons really worth mentioning is the fact that you’re gonna need those few extra topped off ounces of water, because the trade-off for it being easier to clean and such is the fact that it can be a pain to drink out of. You’re dribbling out of this widemouth bottle at least here and there is almost guaranteed and it spills easier in general (although the base is very stable) because of the wide mouth. Personally, if I could only have one, I would take the Triton/sustain classic Nalgene design, however, I own both for good reason and grab whichever one is going to suit my specific purpose at the time. So, although it’s a triton that makes it into my emergency kit for if crap hits the fan, a natural disaster or what have you, I’m very happy to own both and am glad to recommend either 5 star bottle depending on your needs.

Parfait
Je suis passé de la classic ronde à celle là, très content, elle se glisse mieux dans le sac où poche latérale, le bouchon à le bon diamètre (on en met pas partout), bien meilleur prise en main (enfin pour mes petites mains ;)

Nalgene bottle - clearly quality
Well made water bottle in strong (blue) nalgene, modelled on the U.S. military issue water bottle, so compatible with readily available belt packs, cups and canteens. Absolutely no smell or taste to the water, even from new, and we one of these in the boot of the car to hold a drink for the dog. Easily holds one litre of water, the top screws on securely with no leaks and the plastic strip is strong enough to use to attach to a belt or pack with a carabiner - thoroughly recommended.

Ottimo prodotto
