Great ski lock for peace of mind
This fits easily in a jacket pocket while skiing, and is quick to extend and wrap around a pair of skis on a ski rack. While it's not a heavy duty lock, it provides enough deterrence that a thief would likely just grab another pair. It's easy to use and pretty self explanatory. It's quite small, fits easily in any ski jacket pocket (I keep it inside zipped while skiing) and is thin. Definitely recommend picking this up as a good value way to have peace of mind while you hit the lodge between runs

Works well for me securing bags at Starbucks
My gadget bag was stolen at Starbucks with my tablet, extra pair of prescription glasses, BT keyboard, flashhhhh drives etc.--a n expensive lesson. I went looking for something to prevent that kind of snatch and grab occuring again. I bought a large carabeener which works but not in environments with thick table legs or stands so I started looking for a retractable lock. The search was not encouraging with most retractable locks receiving one star reviews accompanied by failure rates tales of woe. I decided to try the Bovision lock a try as one of the only ones with mixed reviews. I had low expectations but I have to say it's working well for me so far. I'm using it at Starbucks and other internet friendly locations in San Francisco, not in cold weather ski lodges. It's light, small and easily fits in my gadget bag, about the size of a mouse. The three foot cord is long enough to loop around a table leg and through both my laptop and gadget bags. I don't leave my bags unattended as I'm sure a wirecutter would do the job but it does the job of preventing a thief from stealthily easing your under-the-table bag away. I try to take care of it as it's made of plastic, not steel. I didn't have any trouble setting the combination nor retracting the cable. I'm happy with the product. ********* Update: 08/29/15 I've been using the lock several times a week for several months now at Starbucks and other cafes. The lock hasn't jammed or developed any of the other horrible systems others have reported. It's still working well for me and continues to prevent snatch and grab thefts.

Nice combination lock with a smaller diameter cable.
This is exactly what I needed. I wanted a combination lock that would thread through a smaller opening. This is a lock that keeps honest people honest or reduces crimes of convenience. The cable is on the smaller size and could be cut by a cable cutter. The lock could probably be defeated by someone using a hammer. Despite this, it is the best lock that I could find that met my requirements. I would buy it again.

Worst lock of all time (maybe ever)
I wanted to like this lock. It fit great in my pocket. But failed me in the worst way possible. Twice. First of all, I think it must be super easy to set the combination because after I locked my snowboard my old combination no longer worked. I am 100% positive I know the combination. It was literally my birthday. And I tested it lots of times before. So I had to “steal” my own board. This is where the lock (thankfully) failed yet again. I was able to break it without tools in under 30 seconds. Nobody even looked at me to see what I was doing. So I was able to ride the rest of the day, but the lock was beyond useless.

Gives you a piece of mind that your skis are safe.
Very easy to use, easy to carry, and gives you a piece of mind when leaving you valuable skis outside the lodge while you grab a bite. With ski thefts at the slope and the cost of gear if only makes sense to lock them up and keep them where you left them when you return. There’s plenty of cable to secure both skis to the rack. Very easy to use and cost friendly. You spend so much on your gear, keep it safe, don’t take anything for granted. I love mine.

Long cable, which is good for a ski lock. A little too bulky. Well made. Adequate security.
The only use for this lock that I can imagine is to lock your skis. Skis get stolen rarely in the US, but it happens, partly because of someone's mistake (e.g., one can grab a wrong pair of skis which look the same as theirs) and partly because of theft. The cable in ski locks is not very thick. It is more a theft deterrent than a theft protection. I am sure that my bicycle cable cutters would cut this cable in one second. However, it is unlikely that a ski thieves would bother carrying bulky cutters or would cut locks in public. They would grab a different pair of skis which are not locked. With this, the key characteristics of a ski lock becomes the length of the cable. I must say, the cable in this lock is on a relatively thick side, perhaps 1.5 mm thick. Cables in ski locks are notoriously short, and every extra inch counts. This lock is better in this sense (has a longer cable) than the other, smaller and lighter lock, that I have, as its cable is a good 4 if not 6 inches longer. It has a 4-digit combination which is nice, although, once again, if one can cut the cable with a proper tools in a second, why would one bother picking a combination? Three digits are as good as four. The downside is that it is a little too big. It fits into a ski jacket pocket, but takes most of it. Description of the lock suggests it as a lock also for bike, I do not know how that would work. When it comes to bikes, it is, basically, a zero security lock. It is not a defense against someone equipped to cut or break locks.

My Mistake, Larger Than I Expected
I have used a light weight combination cable lock for a number of years for quick lock ups of my bike. It’s quite compact, is easy to use and fits nicely in my pocket or the bike’s small top bar bag leaving plenty of room for other items. When I purchased a new one for a second bike I thought I was getting the same thing but received this one. It looks identical but is much larger which makes it a bit awkward for my pocket and limits what I can put into that bike’s top bar bag. Guess I jumped to an incorrect conclusion when ordering this one. But it works just fine so if the size is not a concern or you need a 36 inch cable (my original cable lock is 30 inches) you will probably be happy with it.

It's a shame we need this but I'm glad it's available
I recommend this item for anyone who travels with luggage. The item itself is easy to work with. Not heavy, but sturdy. Setting up your numbers is straight forward. There are a few buttons to get the hang of, but it's easy. Besides the good quality of the product, why do I recommend this? I travel by train regularly, normally with a huge suitcase. Unfortunately you can't always keep your suitcase in eye shot when travelling by train, and even if you can, some person will still try to steal it, as happened with me. I was sat very close to my suitcase, and this person knew it was my suitcase... and yet still tried to walk off with it. The train stops, I'm reading a book, and as I look up to see the view, a thief is literally just about to step off the train with my suitcase. I jump up and corner him so he can't get off, whilst telling him loudly exactly what I thought of him as he looked very sheepish and embarrassed in front of the whole train, unable to get away. But it still upsets me now some very sentimental stuff was almost gone forever. Whilst not foolproof, it's a deterrent. I lock my suitcase to the luggage rack. I was and still am concerned with what staff may say but so far no problems. I've also heard some funny comments about it, but I couldn't care less. Not knowing who the suitcase belongs to, I've heard 'who on earth would lock their suitcase like that tut tut tut'. They soon shut up when I speak up and say 'you would do it too if you saw someone attempt to audaciously steal your stuff in front of you'. This is not for high risk stuff, and it won't turn your item into an impenetrable fortress, it's not designed for that. As I say, someone may try to steal your stuff regardless of this and if they are determined this won't stop them. But, for certain situations it may work as a deterrent or a surprise. It may turn off the opportunist.

Robustes Schloss

Does the job
Used this for the ski season this year after getting my own gear. I picked a noticeable eye popping color so people see the lock right away when noticing my skis and if it falls from my pocket it can easily be noticed in the snow. It is easy to program to my desired code then I pull out the whole length, feed through my skis and poles, reduce the slack, lock the lock, and change the combo. Barely takes any time at all but gives peace of mind when I have to step into the chalet and leave my gear outside. For the most determined thief they will not be bothered by this but the important thing is this is a helpful deterrent.
