Is this ridgid enough to use as crawl space door? I would screw it on about 2 inches from the out side edge.

Yes, I would say it is solid enough for a crawl space door. What I received was used for making large molds and the whole sheet was rigid. It may need a c-channel frame to keep its shape if it is exposed to heat/sunlight to prevent warping, but I am not 100% sure as to how much warping may occur if any with the HDPE. I hope this is helpfull.

What is the strength rating for this material, 1/2" vs 3/8" vs 1/4" ?

I don't know. Look for specs on the internet where the will be if available at all.
