Adjustable, versatile, lots of creative fun!
Assembly is okay, it comes with all sorts you need (thank god) and the instructions are easy enough to understand. Set up took about 45ish minutes? And the height of the white/chalk board is adjustable for smaller kids (our son is 3 but was a preemie so he’s always been on the smaller side) pics showing him using the chalk board. Rona of accessories for each side. Material isn’t like old chalk boards, moreso like if you got “chalkboard paint” for the wall and used it. Erases clean, when it gets dusty just take a paper towel with water to it and let it dry and it’s good as new. Can switch between sides with ease for creative flow. UNFORTUNATELY, the paper does NOT cover the entire width of the chalkboard so if you have ASD kids (like mine) or kids that struggle with keeping their supplies in the appropriate area, put something underneath on either side or find some way to block those areas off or they will get paint on them. Paint comes in 4 colors, 4 corresponding brushes and “spill proof) containers. Both sides have a “storage rack” for when using which is nice, but not a “storage for when not using” so kids like mine don’t go grabbing it and losing it so we’re just hiding the pieces when he’s not using it and he has to ask for them. Overall, I’d give this a 9.5/10. We got the art kit bundle with this (chalk, paper, paints etc that don’t come WITH the easel) so it’s a pretty penny, but it’s made well and for the price you do get a large amount to use from. I just wish the paper covered the whiteboard side and it had a storage option to keep the pieces from being lost long term. Son loves it, he asked me to include all the colorful suns we drew in chalk :) **it says it can be folded for easy storage but ours doesn’t seem to wanna do that 😅 it looks like it CAN but idk that’s probably user error.

One of the best gifts a child can have!
There is not a day that gos by that my niece Aniya doesn't use this easel. Whether its drawing on the whiteboard with markers, practicing her alphabet and numbers on her chalk board, drawing pictures of the family or creating the next Picasso, Aniya uses her easel to the fullest. I have to say that this is one of the absolute best things you could get for a child. They are able to express themselves artistically in a number of different ways, plus as a bonus you can also use the easel for education purposes. This makes it even easier to teach, as the child has already associated the easel with fun and games. I purchased this easel for my niece last Christmas and she is still using it! How many toys do you buy your child, only to have them stop playing with it? I guarantee that won't happen with this purchase and that you will get your moneys worth; I know I did. Aniya's mom was able to put together the easel with no problem what so ever, this says a lot as the women in my family eventually come to me so I can put together the items they purchased. The brushes the easel comes with are easy for a child to grip and the paint is of high quality. Although the selection of paint is limited you can teach your child how to mix colors to produce another. There are also separate paint sets that can be purchased as well. A mess is something to expect with an easel. As you teach your child how to paint properly and mess free you will have less and less to clean up. Make sure you purchase an apron and a floor mat for your child, as they will certainly make some sort of mess on themselves and on the floor. I only wish I had gotten one of these when I was a kid, I would have had so much fun with my mom. Here is a recap of what the easel comes with * Dry erase board - For dry erase markers * Fold nice and neat to store in the corner or under a bed, easy-clean storage -It gets used so much that it never gets folded unless we are cleaning up, but it is easy to do so anyway. * Comes with the accessories needed to help turn your child into the next Van Gogh * Includes chalkboard, a locking paper roll holder, a child-safe paper cutter, 4 clips and a plastic tray -This should last for about a month or two, depending on use. Remember to purchase refills ahead of time so you won't disrupt your child's fun. * Amazon Frustration-Free packaging - so simple that anyone can unpack it. * Exceptional quality and value -So true, this easel has the ability to withstand a beating. Even with daily use its still in mint-condition. * Features double sided chalk and dry erase-boards - Great for versatility, kids get bored sometimes when doing the same thing over and over. This adds versatility to their routine and allows them access to different mediums of workspace. * Height adjustable - Translation: Can be used by any child, making the easel itself easy to use for any age or size. * Includes a locking paper roll holder, a child-safe paper cutter, four clips and a plastic tray. Easy-clean storage - I have yet to see the rolls of paper fall. The trays themselves are indeed easy to clean.

Excellent art activity center for your child!
This easel is wonderful! We got this for our son's birthday, and it is everything we want in an easel. I like how one side is a dry erase board and the other side is a chalk board. The trays are a nice touch, and the side with the dry erase board has a tray where you can put paint containers. The only down side is that the spaces for the containers are made specifically for the four Melissa & Doug paint containers, and you can't really fit much more. In the middle of the easel is a rod where you can add a roll of paper to drape over the top of the easel and clip it to the side so that your child can paint. The easel comes with four removable clips, which is another down-side because my son constantly takes these clips and loses them. At the moment, I have absolutely no idea where they are. When I find them, I put them back on the easel, but then the second I turn my back, he takes them off again. I think it would be better if there were clips attached to the board, like the way a clipboard works. The chalkboard is neat... it's made out of a different material than a classroom chalkboard, so if you're like me and don't like the way a chalkboard feels or sounds, then you'll like this one! It's more of like a plastic... hard to explain, but it erases nicely, and if there is chalk residue on it, you can easily wipe it clean. This easel is well-made and sturdy. I like how your child has a choice between markers, chalk, or paint, and that you can have two kids working on it at once. This has not let me down yet!! Worth every penny.

Great easel, but a few issues on the production end
This is a well designed, sturdy, attractive easel, and will give my granddaughter years of creative fun. It’s easy to assemble, especially if you read the instructions first, and then pay close attention to the pictures. I would have given it 5 stars, but there are some issues on the production end. The hinges are a little flimsy, and bend very easily, so be careful not to let them twist during assembly. The countersunk holes for the long screws weren’t deep enough for the long screws so I had to use a wood chisel to carve them deeper (also, 2 of the long screws were missing). Some of the bolt caps were stripped and wouldn’t tighten, and two of them were cracked and broke apart when I put them on. The good news is that I called Melissa & Doug’s 800 number and they’re sending replacement parts for free (I did have to provide photos of the parts, and the labels on the delivery box). Kind of a pain in the neck, but I’ve learned, over the years, that sometimes diy assembly goes perfectly and sometimes issues occur on the production and packaging end. Once assembled it’s great. Just be prepared for those countersink holes. I’ve read on other reviews that I’m not the only one who had a problem with them.

My son loves it
Loved this art easel for my almost 3 year old. It was pretty easy to assemble as well. Loved that it had the tray shelves. Great item and price.

VERY disappointed in the lack of quality and craftsmanship…gave up on building it.
I purchased the Melissa & Doug Deluxe Standing Art Easel with Dry Erase and Chalkboard somewhat of a double Christmas gift for both my 4 and 5-year-old children. My 4 year old loves to draw, doodle, paint and create – so the ability to use the rolled paper also seemed to be a great addition. Having purchased many Melissa & Doug toys in the past I’m used to a great level of quality from their products…well…NOT this time! I’m very glad that we decided to try and put it together in advance of Christmas rather than waiting until Christmas Eve, too; because now I’m tasked with finding a replacement due to the absolutely poor quality of which this easel is built. To start with, the instructions are very unclear. They have cutesy little labels for each step, but the steps aren’t very clear on which direction or how the pieces are placed or put together. The diagrams are not in color or even an actual picture, but instead a drawing or diagram that’s often very confusing to read or figure out. In twisting, turning, swearing at this thing we finally (thought) we had the frame together only to discover that the only way it seemed to fit together was spaced out so much that the chalk and dry erase boards weren’t wide enough to cover the space allotted. Also while the packaging was not damaged and it was well packed; there was some damage to the corner of both the chalk and dry erase boards. It probably wouldn’t be very noticeable once it was together, but still disappointing. Back to the build now, we tried to reverse engineer it only to then find that many of the holes weren’t correctly drilled thus preventing the blasted thing from going together…period. I am BEYOND DISAPPOINTED in the quality of this and now I don’t have the time to wait for a replacement when it should be next to the tree from Santa on Christmas morning (and it’s now Dec. 22nd). I also noted that the legs seemed to be cut a bit ‘off’ from where they should’ve been cut which would’ve made the easel wobbly. I’m very dissatisfied and I’m just replacing it with another easel from another manufacturer and I’m repurposing the two boards and the trays for a different art area (perhaps just mounting it to a wall?), using the legs and other un-needed pieces for kindling or firewood, and giving up on this awful mess altogether. I can’t believe something that retails nearly $80 regularly from a brand that’s so well respected could be so botched! Maybe mine was just a fluke, but I HIGHLY SUGGEST checking it out well in-advance if you purchase it…or better…maybe find a different one. Again, I’m just very glad I discovered it a few days out and didn’t have to feel bad for having one less present under the tree.

Already Paid for Itself!
We got this as a birthday present for our two year old daugther. I was concerned about earlier reviews with the chalkboard, but found it was not at all an issue. Yeaaa! I, and my non-mechanically inclined self, and my 2 year old put it together in less than an hour, since my husband declined to participate in this fun-filled activity. I'm sure it can be done faster but when you have a 2 year old looking for the pieces you need it takes some extra time (especially when they end up underneath the bed). I found the directions and diagrams to be quite clear. They have helpful notes about how the numbers need to be facing each other and how the head of the screw should not be above the wood, etc. All useful bits of info that insure proper construction. We haven't used the dry earase yet, as I'm not sure there are many washable dry erase markers on the market. At 32" tall my daugher likes to climb onto the paint tray to get a little higher, but we gave her a stepping stool and that helps her to reach the highest points on the easel. (To it's credit the easle handled the extra weight she was placing on the tray.) It does look like putting it on it's highest setting gets tricky because there's not much space at the top between the front legs and the back, so I think it takes more planning to put the screws in on that top setting. It sounds like it used to come with some rolls of paper . . .if it did, it no longer does. I would think it should include at least one roll. Other than that no real complaints. The no fuss packaging was nice. I spent no time cursing over hard to open plastic or excessive, wasteful materials as it had none of that. Oh the two boards (chalk and dry erase) did appear to be slightly warped/bent when I opened them up, but it doesn't seem obvious now when fully constructed, so no big deal in the end. We haven't yet tried the paper roll holder as we haven't ordered any paper, so I can't comment on that either. We did get the extra (i.e., ordered seperately) paint cups and they of course fit nicely into the paint tray and are a smart addition. Glad we finally ordered this. It does seem that the price on this easel fluctuates by as much as fifteen dollars or so although I've never seen it at it's full asking price. Would definitely recommend this (and already have to friends)and I think (hope!) it will be one of those things that grows with our child for years to come.

Marks on Blackboard
The product is well made. I sent it to my granddaughter in Bracknell—unfortunately the blackboard side of the easel is full of marks—look like watermarks. They are quite obvious.

Good buy
This was really easy to assemble and it’s clever how we can attach the paper roll into middle support bar. Haven’t tried the chalkboard side yet, but we are generally ok with cleanups for the whiteboard end (using Crayola washables). It is easy to stain the wood, as what other reviewers state, which is a shame. But otherwise all good and the kids love it

Great product
My kids love this easel! Got it for them for Christmas and it’s great. Easy to put together and very durable. Now if only there was a solution to paint spills on my floor LOL
