This 80-page book teaches students how to diagram sentences so they see the underlying structure of English grammar. Diagramming sentences gives many visual and logical learners an alternative way to learn grammar. Students who understand the finer points of English grammar will apply this knowledge to their writing. For many students, boring old grammar lessons become understandable and funโeven kids who are traditionally more math minded begin to enjoy English lessons. Each lesson provides plenty of practice diagramming. After completing all the lessons, there is a review where students diagram sentences using all the grammar rules they have learned. The grammar lessons in Sentence Diagramming Level 1 are: Compound Predicates With Direct Objects Imperative Sentence (Commands) Interrogative Sentences (Questions) Indirect Object Adverbial Nouns Interjections and Direct Address Intensifiers and Adverbs Modifying Adjectives, Adverbs, and Adverbial Nouns Linking Verbs and Predicate Adjectives Appositives Correlative Conjunctions Prepositional Phrases Compound Sentences Review: Excellent resource! - This series of 3 books on diagramming sentences is amazing! I am blown away by the analysis and planning that must have gone into these books. Each section introduces one new aspect of grammar and the sequence of sections is ideal. On top of that, there is very little text-based explanation or instruction needed - the concepts are beautifully illustrated by a handful of diagrams of example sentences. Those sentences were selected to cover the scope of the concept being addressed. How many different ways might this particular grammatical concept be expressed? Finally, the books are full of great exercises for your students. I highly recommend this series to anyone interested in sentence diagramming! Review: English supplemental material - I bought this to help my granddaughter with her English homework. Good review.

Great book for learning and practicing diagramming!
I used the beginner book in this series with my kids last semester and decided to use it again as review this semester. Well, my kids insisted on getting the next book, which is this one, instead. They love these books SO MUCH! They actually look forward to the diagramming activities in these books. You will need to know how to diagram, as this is more of a workbook and not a teaching book. Each week the book shows a new sentences pattern and the proper diagram for it. You then do 4 different activities with that particular sentence pattern. On day one, you correct incorrect diagrams. Day two, you are given and sentence with the corresponding blank diagram, which you fill in. Day 3, you create and write a sentences to match the given diagrams. The last day, day 4, you diagram a given sentences. There are 3 to 4 sentences to work on daily. This pattern repeats for 12 weeks using a different sentence pattern.

Grammar simplified!
After over 25 yrs of homeschooling and trudging through grammar books, curriculum after curriculum, trying to find something to help clarify exactly what is what....I have found it. Many AHA! moments. Visually seeing the parts of speech and how they fit in the sentence is what diagramming is all about and these workbooks do this in a very straight forward way. Each lesson builds on the next so there is constant review, but not with an extensive amount of work. 3-5 problems on a page with work ranging from fix the diagram, fill the diagram, make your own sentence to fit the diagram skeleton, to diagraming given sentences. Even though the Beginning book says grade 3 to 12, I would not use it till at least middle school. My daughter is in 8th and we are doing all 3 this year....yes, the first book was easy but created base to build on when more complex grammar was introduced. I put these Diagramming workbooks on my list of best homeschooling curriculum.

Incredible resource for classroom, interventions, or homeschooling
Love! Love! Love! As a former ELA teacher, an English major, and a homeschool mom, I cannot say enough about this beginning diagramming book. The book starts at the basic subject/verb level and adds one sentence part at a time. The first activity has the student correcting errors in a diagrammed sentence. Next, the student diagrams a few sentences. Finally, the student has to write a couple of sentences to fit that particular diagram. The complexity builds slowly to allow the student to master the skills. The pages are easy to read. The text is not crowded. The pages have no extra clutter or distractions. The set-up is great for the student who may become easily distracted. I already purchased the next level to start as soon as we complete this level.

Great resource for additional practice
We use IEW in our homeschool program, but wanted some additional practice during the off season. This workbook matches up really well with the curriculum we use. It has easy sentences to start with and allows for creative practice as well. My daughter actually enjoys this activity!

Easy to use and great resource for homeschooling
I looked all over for a decent book on diagramming like this one. These are SO easy to use, and so well written, presenting material in small batches with lots of chances for practice and creativity. I highly recommend for Middle school Homeschooling.
