I have two of these - one for each of two ponds under 1,000 gallons. I have them out of the pond (you can have them in the water) and - depending on your preference/situation/system - you can either unhook them from the tubing, or just haul out the two really icky filter/sponges and wash them out on your plants - they will love all that putrid fish waste! Wash your hands afterward... maybe several times, ya kno? oh, the "bio-spheres" need to be rinsed - but not with chlorinated hose water 'cause it kills the good bacteria - so use some relatively clean pond water and swish it around - made easier if you un-hook it from the tubing.

I purchased this for a live bait tank I was building. I have a couple dozen blue gill which I have kept alive for over 3 weeks now and the water remains crystal clear. I assume it would also work well for small water feature or koi pond. Filter material is easy to clean making for easy maintenance.

The Pond Boss Pond Pump Filter has done a great job of filtering our 500+ gallon fish pond. We inherited the pond when we bought the house and it has been a learning experience. We have tried using algae/green water killing (plant & fish safe) chemicals, then a UV light but none of that work. There is a pump that pushes water to a waterfall but the steady quick movement of the water was not enough to slow the algae. We got the Pond Boss Pond Pump Filter about three weeks ago and the day after setting it up we could actually see the bottom of the pond, and was able to see our fish without them coming to the surface. Of course the filter media has needed cleaning ever day, and each following day the pond has been better than the day before. The filter feature, as mentioned, did a great job, but the construction of the tank developed a hair-line crack about 3 inches after about 2 1/2 weeks. Excellent item exactly what was needed to clear my pond water..and extremely easy set up..

already have a couple similar to this one and they work fantastic so I'm sure this one will be no different.

I have bought 2 of these both have failed within 3 months of use. The seal around the top leaked for both of them. My poor fish almost died both times.
