Great adaption of No Longer Human. It deviates from the book a little but it doesn't really matter. Ito's artwork is amazing and if you are a fan of the Osamu Dazai's book and Ito's artwork I highly recommend this

I've read a lot of Ito and really love his work, but this feels like the first really adult book of his. I didn't think his adaptation of Shelly's Frankenstein really worked - the story just didn't really fit with Ito's style. This however feels like a perfect synergy - it's not like anything Ito has done before and yet it really works, I think because some of the characters and events in the story are so grotesque, and Ito is a master of the grotesque. Ito's art is, as ever, incredible. The story really is bleak, and it feels weird to say I enjoyed it...but I was absolutely hooked throughout. Apparently the novel by Dazai is the second bestselling novel ever in Japan!?

The book came quite dirty, dirty enough for me to question if i should return it or not. Instead i proceeded to try clean the dirt off the book and i was successful. Its a white book so you should reconsider if you want to buy it.

I can't put into words what i felt when i turned over the last page and closed this book after reading it straight all the way through for 3 and a half hours, this book will leave you feeling hollow and with a lot of questions about the human relationships you've made throughout your life, at least i did, this is not a negative but a major plus - not many manga have left me with moral and existential questions, but Junji Ito succeeds with this almost every time, i highly recommend this to anyone who is a fan of Ito's work or with an interest in social and existential philosophy. Tragic fact: did you know that the author of the original novel Osamu Dazai actually ended up ending his life just like it's depicted in the manga? making the novel one of the best selling suicide notes of all time.. sleep tight. Side-note: i see that a lot of people have been delivered copies with a filthy dust jacket, if yours have black marks or streaks on it, then i can confirm that these scrub away by simply (carefully) rubbing a damp cloth on them, leaving your book looking as it should.

O mangaka japonês Junji Ito parece estar vivendo um surto de popularidade no Brasil.Eu já o conhecia No Longer Human é um dos trabalhos mais recentes de Ito e iniciou sua publicação no Japão em 2017, sendo terminada em 3 volumes, aqui compilados em um volume único em capa dura pela Viz. Aliás, a edição é linda, um dos mangás mais bonitos de minha coleção. A obra é adaptação em mangá do livro Ningen Shikkaku de Osamu Dazai. A história segue a vida de Oba Yozo desde sua juventude. Acompanhamos uma jornada desoladora de abusos, compulsão e inadequação social. Aliás, é este último tema o mais importante e que é desenvolvido com absoluta maestria por Dazai e transcrito para imagens com perturbador brilhantismo por Ito. Yozo segue uma busca por alguma felicidade e aceitação que a cada página se torna claro que nunca serão alcançadas. È uma leitura penosa e dolosora, e que aborda bastante a temática do suicídio. Trata-se de um mergulho brutal em uma mente perturbada ao mesmo tempo em que traz relevante crítica à opressão social. É importante destacar que Osamu Dazai é considerado um dos mais importantes escritores do Japão e que Ningen Shikkaku foi seu último livro, ele cometeu sucidio dias após entregar o último capítulo a seu editor. Não deixa de ser irônico que o melhor trabalho da vida de Ito não seja sobre monstros ou terrores sobrenaturais. No fim das contas nada é mais assustador e terrível que o drama humano. Uma obra de arte!

To be honest I read this version before reading the original work No longer human and I love this version more than the novel! The illustrations add something spooky to a story that is already very creepy! So far, it’s my favorite book from Junji Ito

Si vous avez aimé tout les recueils de nouvelles d'Ito, faites gaffe à ce livre qui retrace l'histoire d'un homme sur plusieurs périodes de sa vie, de jeune à adulte, sur 600 pages assez mouvementées. Assez inhabituel de la part d'Ito, le livre est plus mature, plus adulte, plus trash dans ses thématiques et n'hésite pas à exploiter des mots, et des images, qui étaient peu habituelles pour ses autres oeuvres. Toutefois une excellente lecture, un de mes livres préférés d'Ito, je recommande si vous aimez les thématiques sombres et adultes qui font réfléchir sur la vie... et la dépression d'un Homme.
