Academy Award® winner Julia Roberts and Academy Award® nominee Lucas Hedges deliver powerful performances in this edge-of-your-seat thriller. Review: Movie - Good movis Review: Wow. Just wow. - As I watched the movie unfold and the audience realizes that Ben's addiction was initiated by legally prescribed opioids for pain management of a broken arm as a 14 year old teen, I realized how relevant this film is to the growing problem of opioid addiction in USA which commences with legally prescribed opioids. The shadow side of pharmaceuticals and medicine is revealed and for me this is one of the breathtaking aspects of the movie. We get to look at how if we place trust in the experts and professionals we can give away our own power. If we seek solutions through medical science to the problem of pain management, look at what can happen and how life can very quickly spiral out of control and into traumatized families and communities. Addiction is not simply an individual problem but a societal problem. We are all accountable because we all participate in voting for corrupt politicians who are bribed by pharmaceutical companys. Politicians and pharmaceutical companies give out large sums of money to Universities dictating what can be studied in medicince and what can't be studied. It's all tightly woven together throughout the whole of the capitalist society. Good performance by Julia Roberts who I could whole heartedly identify with as well as Ben played Lucas Hedges. I could fully understand Ben's decision to commit sucide to stop bringing pain and trauma to his family, however we need recovered addicts to tell their stories and people who can work towards bringing an end to a corrupt system. We are all woven into this issuse together.

This movie was so real
Whoever wrote the characters & story knew the hurt, lies, hope, disappointments, fear and evil addiction brings to a family. It's a good movie but for me it was like reliving something too real. For someone who has no clue what they are up against, this movie spells it out.

Addiction affects the whole family
This is a tragic story of how one's addiction and bring about the self-destruction of a family unit, simply from differing on how to deal with it. Does one send the child to rehab, just try tough love, can trust ever be regained? This is a dark topic, but I gave it a 4 rating because of the acting of Julia Roberts and Lucas Hedges. Aside from that, much of the plot can be predicted due to addiction.

I loved it.
Not a great film but just the kind I really like. Julia Roberts and Lucas Hedges are wonderful and deserved Oscar Nominations.

great movie must watch for anyone living with an addict
This movie shows both sides (family, addict)of living with an addict. It also shows the different ways they handle the situation. Very powerful and true to life.

Ben Should've Stayed Back
I thought this movie was just okay, but nothing great. Just because Lucas Hedges has made it big of late doesn't mean he can all of a sudden do anything and have it turn to gold also. If you want to see a real drug addiction movie, there's plenty of others that are much better. Beautiful Boy, Less then Zero, (Robert Downey Jr.'s best acting job in my opinion) Spun, and Candy to name a few. In this movie, there's really not much to it except a lot of shady people see Ben is back and they want unresolved issues resolved. Ben (Lucas Hedges) and his mom (Julia Roberts) then spend the rest of the movie driving around swearing and yelling at each other which gets old and annoying quick. I don't recommend this, but if you absolutely must see it, I suggest you rent it before you buy.

I had been waiting a very long time to see this film, being a fan of Julia Roberts, and was surprised and annoyed that it didn't seem to receive a general release on the cinema or, it appears, a release on DVD or Bluray in this country! So, when I finally received it from Amazon US it was with some trepidation that I sat down to watch it. I needn't have worried. This film is bloody marvelous, brilliantly acted by all involved, well written, directed and filmed, dealing with a VERY difficult subject in, what I considered, a very clever and delicate way. So why the shunning by cinemas and discs? Stupid!! If you want something a bit more serious and intelligent than what seems to me to be the latest trends then you can't go wrong. Thank you Amazon US!
