Very well made winch
Quality winch that auto brakes every time and has a winch rate that works well for removing jeep top.

Works as advertised
I bought this winch to lift a 4 foot x 8 foot train platform up to the ceiling of my garage. I bring the train down each year for Christmas. I used to use a pulley system and brute force. This winch is a HUGE improvement. I was quite impressed that I could release the handle while lowering this fairly heavy train platform and it would hang mid air just as advertised. It works great and I am very pleased. Just be sure the cable is attached to the reel as described in the instructions. A friend of mine bought one for the same use and didn't follow the instructions. Ops, the cable pulled out. So no short cuts, just follow the instructions and you will be happy.

Winch works great.
Works very well but the threads on the drive shaft were not cut to specifications; the nut would not thread onto it. Had to re-cut them.

Only winch that will work
I have a 1986 sail boat that has a retractable center board. This winch is the only available that meats the requirements.

Easy to crank, solid construction.
Works great lifting and holding 300lb load from a cabal. The automatic brake works great for my use, you must crank to lower it. But, if you need a quick release, this isn't it. Owned 1 year, looks like I just bought it.

Happy with this purchase
I used this winch to rig up a mast-raising system for a Hobie 17 sailboat. It works great. I don't have to worry about accidentally letting go of the handle because if I do that, the automatic brake takes over and holds the mast in place.
