Palm T/X Handheld PDA with Bluetooth

I have had this product for just under a year, and it has developed two faults: 1) The power on/off button has stopped working, and 2) An area of the 'touch' screen no longer responds to touch. Palm are currently refusing to accept my Amazon invoice as proof of purchase (despite it having my credit card/payment details on it!), and with the warranty running out on 19th April I am unlikely to get these faults resolved. Palm have currently quoted me £120 JUST to fix the power on/off button! This is the second Palm TX I have had - the first one just stopped working completely soon after I purchased it, but Amazon were brilliant and replaced it on that occasion (thanks Amazon!). It's a good unit generally, but these reliability issues and hassle with the manufacturer over getting it fixed under warranty lead me to give it one star - I would NOT recommend this product![Update 28/05/08]Palm did repair my TX under warranty in the end, but it was a very painful process. Their service department took up to 2 weeks to reply to my emails, and I was without my TX for 3 weeks while it was being fixed.

After a bad experience with a PocketPC which was very slow and did not sync up well with Outlook in my opinion I had pretty much given up on PDAs. However, I decided to try again and with the Palm TX I have certainly not regretted the choice.This is a brilliant device with good battery life, excellent WiFi (including secure access points) and easy to use software. The DocumentsToGo software does a good job of synching with Outlook although the Excel sheets are a bit hard to read or require a lot of scrolling - you take a choice here. Web use is excellent through the WiFi connection and sites, such as the BBC News site are really usable - surprising for such a small handheld device.The only downside, if you can call it that, is the downloadable games which are pretty addictive. This is particularly true of Bejeweled 2 which is brilliant and certainly shows the colour display capabailites off to good effect.For anyone thinking of buying a PDA which is easy to use, has good battery life and an excellent set of features then I would recommend the Palm TX.

I've only had my Palm TX for a couple of days so far but already I've found it very useful. Gone is the rather large and bulky filofax, once I transfered all my contacts.I've already added more memory and at the risk of my wife deriding it as a boy's toy I carry it with me know wherever I go. She, incidentally and rather ironically has found a use for it already in taking notes, or getting me to take notes for something rather important whilst we where out. The Blu-Tooth connection is good allowing me to connect to the internet through my mobile and the wi-fi works okayish with my network. The compact size and weight make it unnoticable in the pocket and the access screens are very easy to understand and quite user friendly.I've also discovered there is an awful lot of useful freeware out there for Palm's, but my wife is now wondering why I need sixteen clocks and the Australian holiday schedule?If I had a wish for this however I would ask that it had a USB connection rather than the rather tough to get out and looks like it is going to break hotsync connection. I also would like it to be compatible with my multi card reader so I can view my photographs whilst on site rather then lugging my laptop, but that's not going to happen. I actually asked Palm if there where any plans for such a facility in the pipeline, would you believe it ,there are not.

Bought this to replace my now aging Tungsten E. The TX is a very similar PDA but with a few more bells and whistles (wireless web browsing, bluetooth...) However, after a week the first one I bought decided that I was touching the screen about an inch from where I was actually touching and no amount of recalibrating would help. It was so far out that I couldn't actually tap the targets in screen calibration mode! It went back to Amazon. The second one refused to synchronize. When the button on the cable was pressed, the device reset. It went back to Amazon. I really want to like this PDA as my Tungsten E was a solid workhorse for years so hopefully the next one will work. Third time lucky? We'll see.

I looked forward to receiving this product. I needed a PDA so that I could read pdfs and consult Word and Excel documents on the fly for work and research purposes without having to lug my Powerbook around with me everywhere.With up to 5 days on the battery and Mac-compatible I snapped up this little beauty. Well beauty soon became a beast. On my first day of using it reading pdfs for research, the battery was flat in 3 hours. I returned this PDA to Amazon (who were great) and received a replacement as obviously 3 hours for just reading 2 pdfs must surely be a fault. Oooh no!The replacement I received wont keep itself turned off and so runs the battery down. I turn it off and it turns itself back on. I tried the keylock to prevent this. What do you know? Keylock turns the PDA back on to tell me the PDA is locked down. Then the PDA locks down so I can't turn it back on until I connect it to the power supply. Then I see a screen telling me to deactivate the keylock. The little beast still runs out of juice quicker than bishop escaping a police raid on a brothel! Aaaargghhhh!I don't know if I've been unlucky here but a small device that doesn't turn off and runs out of battery before my Powerbook isn't worth the price tag. The good people of Amazon have now got my (2nd and last) PDA winging it way back for a refund.I expected better from Palm.

it is only a month old, but after i ditched my pocket pc hpipaq 6340, i find wifi on this machine to be just brilliant...no major configuration needed, just latches onto my motorola straight way and i am in business...bye bye windows, despite me using my oulook big time, which is still workable reasonably....had problems syncing documents to go , as it would freeze. downloaded outlook 2007 conduit from palm website, reinstalled the software twice over and finally it worked!!! by itself...cant take credit for sorting that out ...palm help online chat brilliant, but did not sort problem...earphone hearing of mp3: crap ; noisy, dont buy if that is a hugeentertainment life of yours; but maybe your piece is better than mine!wifi and blue tooth just great...not a huge webuser, but if i need to text or search google anywhere or see emails..brilliant...i have other more satisfactory methods to read webpages, trust me!!and i would not take away points on that account for this lovely, low weight, stylish, gadget which can do landscape reading and yet stay simple..i really hope it lasts fault free

I loved my Palm TX, bought from Amazon. It is (was) my third Palm, and my fourth PDA. I upgraded from my Tungsten T to get wi-fi with WEP security. That alone makes it really great. I can update my e-mails all over the house, browse, update and synchronise documents and listen to MP3s and podcasts. I can even listen to some web radio and view movies, and play tunes on the car radio with a Belkin gizmo. OK, so far so good.After nearly two years my TX began to fail with digitiser problems. It became harder to reset the stylus until it finally failed to reset entirely. I could still work it using the buttons for weeks, but someday I had to do a hard reset, and that meant curtains as I could not set the stylus at the setup. This was a tragedy as it was a really great machine. I bought a cheap one (£100) and I was off again. I could not live without it.Consider all this. You can carry it more easily than a laptop. With a 512MB SD card it holds loads of tunes and podcasts. It synchs "Documents to Go" so that you can do drafts on the move. It has a great colour screen. I have a £10 Targus IR portable keyboard. I found that I could hardly live without it.The down sides are that (amongst other things) the browser is very limited. It works on most things, but not Wikipedia, which I can live without. Based on my experience it might be a good idea to buy a case to protect the screen. When it failed nobody would fix it - the Palm website was useless (as usual) and the listed repair places simply refused to reply. But despite the downsides I reckon it is really good value and superb quality.At the price it is worth viewing it as expendable. That annoys me as my other three old PDAs are all still working. Who fixes things nowadays? In my heart I know - the first Plam TX I bought one did not fail me, I wore it out through overuse. I plan to wear the second one out too.How else do you collect your e-mails with attachments for free in the town square in Georgiopoulis in Crete, listen to "In Our Time" podcasts in the Paris Metro and refine your last minute draft presentation in the living room?I love it. For me, the Palm TX is better than a laptop anyday.

I bought the TX a couple of weeks ago and the product itself was fine - unfortunately the installation cd did not work and I have been unable to get Palm to send me out a new one - consequently I can't use all the hot-sync functions promised as I'm having to use the software from my old Tungsten T. Palm support is useless and now are deleting my emails without even reading them - I would warn anyone thinking of buying anything from Palm that it's OK if it's all working well but woe betide you if you need customer service !

Nach langer PDA-Abstinenz (hatte zuvor einen Casio E15G mit Windows CE 2.1 graustufen sowie einen HP Jornada mit PocketPC 3.0) habe ich mich nun doch wieder entschlossen, einen PDA anzuschaffen.Die bereits erwähnten PDAs waren für mich von der Usability her enttäuschend, dies lag vorwiegend daran, dass sie weder Bluetooth noch WLAN besaßen und dadurch die Konnektivität auf Infrarot und Cradle eingeschränkt war. Außerdem konnte ich mich für der Pockt-PC Windows kaum erwärmen, das ist aber eher eine Sache des Geschmacks ;-)Also: WLAN und Bluetooth musste sein, dazu noch günstig und wenn möglich ein Palm. Sprich: Palm T|X.Pluspunkte:- super Design- gute Akkulaufzeit- WLAN/Bluetooth super einfach eingerichtetNegativpunkte:- keine werksseitige Einbindung der Speicherkarten als Laufwerke im Desktop-PC- HotSync ist alles in Allem "etwas umständlich", aber wenn man sich dran gewöhnt hat, fluppt die Kiste ;-)- Palm hat sich eine Cradle gespart. Prima. Hätte bestimmt $2,99 pro Stück aus Taiwan/China mehr gekostetIm Alltagsbetrieb kann ich sagen:- MP3s spielen läuft super, man kaufe sich gescheite Kopfhörer- Synchronisation mit Linux geht gut, sogar per WLAN *ggg*, bis auf gnome-pilot, scheinbar baut da seit paar Jahren niemand mehr dran. jpilot funzt 100%, auch "pilot-xfer" von der Konsole aus- Das eingebaute VersaMail kann IMAP4 und IMAP-Ordner, bin begeistert- Die eingebauten PIM-Applikationen lassen sich intuitiver bedienen als ihre PocketPC-Pendants- Geschwindigkeit ist gut, allerdings macht das PalmOS Zicken, wenn irgendein Netzwerkzugriff mal daneben geht -> lange Wartezeiten bis Fehlermeldung kommt- Documents-to-Go funktioniert ebenfalls wie eine Eins, klasse.- Zum Ansprechen der Speicherkarte hab ich mir jetzt CardExport II geholt, damit kann auch mein Linux auf die Karte direkt zugreifenAlles in Allem: Super Ding, ich geb es nicht mehr her!

I couldn’t be happier, the Palm TX arrived before the expected delivery date, the seller could not provide the cradle, so they refunded that cost but gave me a free car charger adapter cord. My TX was easy to setup and hotsync to the PC. (Do some searching for Palm drivers, there are plenty of great websites to help you on this, as you will need an updated driver for Windows 10 64 bit operating systems)The box had the original Palm install CD, the USB to Palm cable, an AC wall adapter/charger guides and a cover, stylus and a screen protector.The ROM OS can be upgraded with an Enterprise WiFi download to give you access to WPA2 access from the original WEP, WPA(1) protocols. The builtin blue tooth works to stream audio and can with other software programs be used to transfer files and hotsync as well. There are lots of simple programs you can get for free to keep you Palm backed up and running great.I wish I bought one of these back in their day as I would have enjoyed using it then as I do now!

I needed something that was not more available, because not produced any more, and I live with this device, so that I needed to have a spare one or two.

Passionné depuis des lustres par les ordinateurs de poche je rêvais depuis les années 80(!) de machines tenant dans la main et bien plus performantes que les volumineuses bécannes de bureau de l'époque. La réalité a dépassé le rêve.Le Palm TX tient toutes ses promesses: agenda, of course! Mais surtout une multitude d'applications utiles ou distrayantes, trouvées souvent gratuitement sur le net dans des domaines variés: multimédia, bureautique, vie pratique, sciences,...Mes applications préférées: la base de données Smart List to go avec laquelle je gère une multitude de fichiers (ultra puissant, pratique et convivial), le lecteur de ebook ereader qui me permet de consulter des romans ou le littré mais surtout un guide juridique que j'ai transformé en ebook (avec OpenOffice) à partir d'un livre de près de 300 pages: l'intérêt est double; le gros dossier devient consultable à tout moment et les recherches sont beaucoup plus rapides: les articles s'ouvrent en les sélectionnant dans le sommaire. J'aime beaucoup aussi Tide Tool, un annuaire/graphique des marées capable d'indiquer pour la plupart des ports du monde les hauteurs et coefficients de marées à un instant donné.Je ne peux pas omettre les jeux: mes préférés: Sudoku, Open Chess, Le Compte est bon. J'utise peu la navigation sur le net, en wi-fi, mais cela marche très bien, à condition de se contenter des limites de la taille de l'écran: utile pour consulter sa messagerie ou pour chercher des plans sur GoogleMaps (génial!). J'utilise aussi la vidéo pour regarder des films que je stocke sur une carte SD 16Go (grâce à un logiciel-SDHC driver- qui permet de dépasser la limite de 2 Go). Je suis par contre un peu déçu par la qualité "nasillarde" du son vidéo (alors que le Mp3 est excellent).Pour finir je dirai que la machine est très fiable (pratiquement jamais de plantages malgré l'usage intensif que je lui fais subir). La synchronisation avec l'ordinateur marche à 98% (le reste du temps il faut rebooter, je n'ai pas trouvé d'autre solution...).Pour conclure: un compagnon idéal. Je précise, à tout hasard, qu'il ne fait pas téléphone! Je trouve que c'est très bien comme ça. Je me méfie des machines qui veulent tout faire au prix de sacrifices pénalisant l'efficacité.
