Excellent
This is much better than I was expecting considering its modest cost. The materials are good and it is easy to work out how to use it.The boom successfully holds one of my studio flash heads which weighs 1.9kg together with a 22" beauty dish attached weighing 0.5kg. With nearly 2.5kg aboard, and counter-balanced at the other end, things get slightly nervous if you extend the boom to its absolute maximum. The boom will start to bend, for example. However, I have no such need to extend the boom out to those extremities and at all normal extensions the product was rock solid, stable and inspired confidence. At normal extensions it will take a 2kg strobe and a biggish softbox with no problem at all. Clearly it will cope with any speedlite and modifier combination you could throw at it.My only minor grumble is with some of the clamps. You will need some strength in your wrists and fingers to tighten up everything properly. I don't want to put you off by saying this because, firstly, I'm hardly Mr Universe and secondly the situation only raises its head at maximum extensions and weights. Were this a ยฃ100 item then I'd be knocking a star but certainly not at this price.Another feature of this boom is it can be used to extend a standard light stand directly upwards. It will go into a pure vertical direction when clamped on top a light stand.I'm very pleased to have taken a chance on this product thanks to reading the other good reviews. It's sturdy, well made, and holds the heaviest of my amateur lighting kit with ease. To come out only ยฃ40 the lighter is definitely a result.

A sturdy, quality boom arm at a budget price (but a bit of DIY was needed)
This is a huge step up from my existing bargain-basement boom arm. Where my old boom has a lot of plastic fittings - most especially at the anchor point between the arm and the light stand, this is metal in all the places that count. No more plastic squeaking & creaking noises when tightening, and - after a bit of DIY which I'll get to - no unpredictable and dangerous slipping. At the time of purchase I paid ยฃ34.95 plus a fiver for postage, and at that price it's a no-brainer.So now about that bit of "DIY" work - which was necessary before I could use the boom arm properly. During assembly a round-headed bolt had been used instead of a hexagonal bolt in the anchor point, with the result that the arm couldn't lock down properly no matter how many times the handle was turned. It's obvious that a hexagonal bolt is needed - the side opposite the tightening handle has a hexagonal cut-out. Once I replaced the round-head bolt with a 40mm M8 bolt, all was well and the arm now locks quickly and very securely at whatever angle I chose. I was tempted to take a star off for this silly error, but the fact remains that this boom arm is otherwise of such good quality that it still deserves five stars given its price. The only other point worth noting is that the counter-weight bags are unfilled; you'll need to fill them yourself with sand / pebbles or whatever you can get your hands on. Once that's done, you're good to go.

Great value for money
This is great value for money, so much so, that I bought a second one. It's main use is to support backgrounds/diffusers outdoors mounted off a tripod rather than the usual lightstand via an adapter. This is all fairly lightweight stuff and is no problem setting it up even at full extension with minimal counter balance. I have also used it with a 2.5kg studio head and this gets a bit more tricky counter balancing correctly, although you soon get the knack - a second pair of hands would be useful. I actually use 2 litre drinks bottles filled with water as the counter balance rather than sand/pebbles. I now appreciate why the professional Manfrotto/Matthews gear costs a lot lot more.

Disappointing.
Arrived in good time but needed a couple of repairs. The end piece where you attach the counterweight had fallen off, not only through poor build quality, but poor design. The point at which the boom arm meets the light stand had also fallen off and needed reattaching. It claims to be heavy duty but it's not really. Would be fine for a speed light and a small modifier, but for a studio head and larger modifier it's not great. The fittings are hard to tighten enough to get it to grip and even then you have to mount the light in a specific way to stop it spinning, which is a bit limiting. All in all for the ยฃ50 I paid I was expecting better.I would ex

Studio boom arm
Just what I was looking for and this does the job perfectly, and at a good price, I have only used it with an AD200 flash head with various lightweight attachments so haven't really needed anything to counter weight the flash, although I did put a small bottle of water in the bag just to be on the safe side, highly recommend this product.

Great value, strong and robust and the boom arm ...
Great value, strong and robust and the boom arm extends quite a bit. Takes a strobe with beauty dish quite easily. Well made and should last a long time.

Five Stars
Great value, and equally as good as more expensive, better known makes.
