Its story goes that a cheese maker and his friends were sitting around drinking and knocked a wheel of cheese into a barrel of red wine. After bobbing around for several days, the cheese was fished out, tasted, and determined to be much improved. Today, this wine washing creates a purple rind on the outside of the cheese and imparts a fruity, winey flavor. The Drunken Goat is a cheese for entertaining.
