Good for vintage items Review: Quilt soap did a wonderful job! - I have some baby booties that have been handed down in the family for over forty years.All of the booties had yellowed but the oldest ones were in the worst shape. These were originally hand stitched from white satin and were over seventy years old. The satin had turned yellow and there were numerous brown marks on the fragile booties. The cleaning process was so simple. I added about a half teaspoon of Quilt Soap to the warm water in my lavatory and added the booties. In less than a minute, the water turned dark yellow, so I drained it, rinsed the booties in clear water. I repeated the process two more times, carefully pushing the water through the fabric each time. When the water was clear, I drained the soapy water again and rinsed everything thoroughly. I was pleased to see the yellow had disappeared and the brown marks were much reduced. The improvement was even more pronounced after the booties were dry. (I understand I'd first have to mix the amount for each wash with water first.)** A: I believe the recommended amount per wash load (for a top-load machine) is one tablespoon, and since one tablespoon is 0.5 ounce, that means you would get 16 loads per 8 oz. container. Again, this is based on the amount recommended for a top-load machine. I am not familiar with recommended equivalents for front-loading machines. **Q: Is this safe for horse blankets that are waterproof?** A: It's very gentle and would not melt the coating. Try some on a small spot first. LOL Actually they use this to wash horses because it's easy to rinse off. It's sold in bigger containers for that purpose. **Q: Two 100% clean new quilts(<4 yrs old) were stored on wire shelves in a closet,now have mysterious yellow stains. Will this remove those stains?** A: I just had to clean two very large white table cloths that had been stored on hangers. I'm sure these were much older than 4 years, maybe even 40 years. They were next to a chimney that leaked and were stained. I soaked them in the washing machine in hot water and Oxyclean for 3 to 4 hours. I filled the washer to large load and used about 7 scoops. I would have soaked them longer but I needed to go to bed. I ran them through the wash cycle and then washed them again but without any detergent, mostly to get the soap out. I think I used to much soap. Anyway, they came out bright white. I was very pleased. I tried Orvus on some doilies and it did not work but the Oxyclean did. This is now my go-to solution. Sorry Orvus. The yellow stains could be rust and Oxyclean may not take that out. **Q: Can this be used to spot clean lace on a vintage wedding dress?** A: The Orvus soap worked really well on the lace of my wedding dress from 1989. This product did an amazing job of removing some of stains and the discoloration of the gown. Follow the instructions, a little goes a long way.
