Would highly recommend this drum for the excellent sound. **Q: Does this drum come with a beater?** A: Yes it comes with a drum stick but I would suggest you make a better one out of fiberglass rod cotton duck tape and leather for the cover **Q: What is the handle made of?** A: The handle is made of hide stretched around a smooth surfaced river stone. The hide portion of the handle is roughly rectangular around the oval stone. The whole handle fits comfortably in the hand. An extra note: I'm pleased with the thickness & resiliency of the deer hide used for this drum. Deer hide is typically thinner & more "fussy" about changes in ambient temperature & humidity. This drum is more resilient & able to hold its voice than the average deer hide drum. **Q: Is this drum tuneable--or can you only get a single pitch from it?** A: This is a natural skin drum and as such the drum can only be tuned my removing the humidity in the head. If the drum goes out of tune you can dry it in front of a fan for several minutes or for slight adjustments, use a hair dryer on low heat for a few seconds. In extreme cases, like if the head gets rained on, you can completely submerge the drum in water for about 15 seconds then dry it in front of a fan for a day.
