Where the layers are stitched together, extra padding has been added for comfort. I was a little nervous that the Velcro would be itchy against my skin, or that it wouldn't be strong enough. On both of those points I did not need to worry. The Velcro pieces have a very long "gripping surface" and they are very strong. The instructions say to wear it 15 minutes a day for the first 3-4 days and I put it on while I was getting ready for work. I could definitely feel that my shoulders were held back by the posture corrector, which made me more aware of how I was holding my neck.
