Great Spatula - Color is Slightly Darker Than As Shown

*by S***H on Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on December 13, 2012*

We really like silicone spoonulas, and use them frequently. We need more, not because they broke, but because they get used for other things and then go missing (I blame the kids.)This review compares XX-UV, RSVP, and Walfos silicone spoons. All three of these met my must-meet criteria, and are recommended.None smelled weird.I had three must-meet criteria:1. Must be greater than 11 inches long.2. The spoon-stiffening core had to extend up the handle to within half an inch of the end of the handle. (We had one spoon where the core went only about half-way up the handle. This was terrible to use because only the thumb and two fingers were touching something firm.)3. The core had to extend to about the middle of the bowl of the spoon; otherwise, the spoon is too floppy.Walfos Pros:1. It is lighter than the other two, 76 g vs. 98 g for RSVP, and 84 g for XX-UV2. The flatter end shape improves its spatula-ness without making it less spoony. (They all make borderline spoons, but they are certainly better than spatulas.)3. The spoon-stiffening core is wider and more rounded in the bowl of the spoon. I suspect this will increase durability and lengthen its life. Also, the core, at least in the bowl, is NOT metal, but is some transparent, but very stiff, material. I suspect this is what makes the Walfos lighter than the other two.4. The core extends up the handle to about half-way around the hole. This is slightly farther than the other two, and increases comfort.5. It is a bit thicker than the XX-UV, which makes it slightly more comfortable to use than the XX-UV.Walfos Cons:1. CostRSVP Pros:1. It is as thick as the Walfos, which makes it slightly more comfortable to use than the XX-UV.2. In the bowl of the spoon, the spoon-stiffening core is not as close to the inner surface of the bowl as it is with the XX-UV.RSVP Cons:1. CostXX-UV Pros:1. You get four for less than the price of two.2. Like the other two, the spoon-stiffening core extends well into the bowl of the spoon.3. Like the RSVP the core extends almost to the hole at the end of the handle.XX-UV Cons:1. A little skinnier than the other two.2. The stiffening core in the bowl of one of the spoons seemed too close to the surface. However, it may last forever (or until lost by those kids). Also, don't forget the great deal these are.Previous Review:My wife and I bought two of these from Waitrose* when we visited London in September of 2009. For the last three years we have loved working with them so much that I have repeatedly scoured the Internet trying to find more for our family and friends. They are our preferred spatulas in all cases.Colors Not As Bright As Shown:I have just received all four colors that are available through Amazon,

. Three were available directly from Amazon, the green on from MyKitchCo. The colors of all four are slightly darker than as shown - they are not bright primary-type colors.Smell Note: One reviewer commented on a perfume smell. None of the four I received had ANY weird smell. In fact, I had to smash my nose up against them to smell anything at all.Pros:High-temperature silicone, so they don't melt in hot pans.NO WAY to scratch your non-stick surface. No joints to come apart. No crevices or grooves of any kind for food to hide in.Handle part is rather thick and rubbery so it is very comfortable to hold.Working edges are soft and flexible so they conform very well to pot and jar sides and bottom.Rugged: The ones we bought and used constantly for three years look exactly like the ones I receive today.Cons:"Spoon" is VERY shallow, so if you want a spoon for liquids, this is not your tool. And it is this con that probably kept me from finding these things for the last three years. I was always searching for "spatula".* For my fellow nerd-types: Finchley Road (51.546527,-0.179434)

Caveat, there's a metal core reinforcing these. I think you need to know that, you don't need to worry about it, IMHO

In many ways these are every thing I expected them to be. They'll take the heat and their rubbery edges make sure the batter goes everywhere you want it to.There's a metal rod in the handle so it doesn't flop everywhere when your stir, move ingredients, whatever. Personally I haven't experienced the downside of these having a metal core yet!Since it has a metal core you can bet you must remove what deceptively looks like an all silicon tool from your ingredients before you place them in the microwave (no metal in microwaves). It seems to me since metal transmits heat, depending on how I use these I may feel the metal rod inside as it collects and transmits heat. I don't know this, it hasn't happened, but it seams plausible. If you're worried there's always the Rubbermades on wood sticks. Lastly since there's an immovable rod inside the silicon that dictates for me how these will eventually fail way down the road. If the silicon ever looses its suppleness then in the distant future stirring might cause a crack to develop at a flex point exposing the rod. Mind you all of those caveats are Ifs. Remember: I rate these excellent for as long as they last and I expect that to be a long time. I think these are things you need to know, not things you need to worry about. If it isn't check back and I'll update this. One of the things I like about these is that they are seamless. I hate the kind where the handle slips into a rubbery tip because moisture always goes down inside during dish washing, and long term moisture in there is not a good thing. With these no seams means no nothing from washing lingering after.

    Spoonchala!

*by S***O on Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on July 28, 2020*

or is it a spatuloon? Either way, great for the kitchen! Nice sized handle that's easy to grip, soft edges that easily scrape the sides of bowls or pots. I suspect a steel core for stiffness and a little heft. for folding dishes or just mixing up a batch of seafood salad it's perfect.
