Review: Great backup/replacement for the TDS Recon battery pack - I use an old TDS Recon data collector (no longer manufactured) for my total station and have had issues with both the battery and chargers failing. It is hard to find a replacement, as the unit is no longer being manufactured. This is a great backup for emergency use, and it takes easily-available batteries.

**Q: Do you know if this will fit a unit that was manufactured in 2003?**
A: My Recon was manufactured in 2003 and it fits. It's a little tight, but you will be able to lock it in. Rechargeable batteries don't work very well. The voltage drops off to quickly. Regular AA's are better. I recommend using the lithium batteries. They maintain a higher voltage longer and will last you through the day. I found that if I leave the batteries in the unit overnight, they will drain down significantly, so I remove them when I'm not using the recon.

**Q: Does this unit have a com port (DB9) connect on the back like the standard battery pack?**
A: yes Marc, it's identical except there is no power port...has the 9 pin and the usb-ish port.
