The cawls are made of a different material. We use many of them at our factory and they probably crimp 250,000 ferrules a year and we get 4-5 years out of them. They are easily worth the money--especially with the included ferrules. I've used mine now for nearly a year and they have been flawless. No regrets from me. I think Sopoby comes in red and yellow as well and this may indicate different ferrule size range but these work on all I need them for. **Q: Are these connectors rated for marine use?** A: The connectors themselves, appear to be made from what looks like an aluminum or stainless steel material. Can’t really tell exactly why it is. **Q: Are these ferrules ul approved for use on ac electrical devices?** A: Yes, as far as I know--our systems are all UL approved and we use these in them. **Q: Is there a size that fits into breadboard holes (.1" I think)?** A: The holes of a breadboard, like for integrated circuits or 1/4 watt resistors is less than 0.10", I think, but I don't know what it is. But integrated circuits and most all breadboard have a distance between the holes of 0.10". In answer to your question, ferrules are available from really small to fairly large and this similar will handle all of them. The smallest I have is 0.045" outside diameter. For comparison, a Male pin for a DB15 or DBDB25 computer connector is about 0.040". I believe the pins are large enough to make adequate connection in a reusable breadboard of the Radio Shack variety. I have only used this tool a handful of times but it did make nice crimps, and the selection of ferrules you get is pretty decent. It lives permanently in my electrical tool kit.
