I bought a medium, so that he could wear his sweater under the coat, and it wouldn't be tight. It fits him in a comfortable snugness, but not tight. He says that even without the sweater, the coat kept him warm in the wind and rain. Zipper is difficult to use unless you're left handed. It's on the left side. Jacket overall felt warm, although I couldn't get the whole jacket on me to zip it up. I returned the jacket the next day.
