A: This is an out of the box use for the washer.  I would use the 1 1/2 nail or, depending on the tree, a 2 or 2 1/2 in. galvanized nail.

**Q: How many are included in the box?**
A: Funny you should ask this now because I recently needed these and couldn't find the box.  There were a boatload of them--I want to say 500--in the box.  As I recall, the box is about 5" X 5" X 3", maybe a tad bigger, and had very little empty head space when I opened it.  Hope this helps.

Here was my problem. I wanted to hang mug hooks under standard melamine kitchen cabinets. The white vinyl coated hooks that are big enough to hold my large handled mugs are just a bit too long and are going to break through the shelf. I thought of vinyl washers, but needed them to have a very small hole. I found these and after reading the questions and reviews, took a chance they would work. Not only did they work perfectly, they don't look obvious! They just look as though they are part of the mug hook. Even better, they cover that little bit of jagged edge that still shows after the hook is screwed in. I've replaced the other existing hooks in my kitchen (and elsewhere!), using these perfect washers. I used two washers for the depth I needed to keep the hook from breaking through the shelf. The hole is small enough that all I needed to do was screw the washers down to the end of the hook then screw the hook itself into a small pre-drilled pilot holes. I've included the link for the hooks I used. Bought them from amazon as well!

I bought this with the intention of enlarging the center hole so I can use it for visibility marker at the edge of a decking.  I fastened the caps with screws for permenancy.  Time will tell if the plastic is UV resistent enough to last.  Having 500 in a box, I can afford to replace them if necessary.
