The ball did have a gasoline smell at first, but it was gone within hours, not days. The ball, in rest, is not really clear. It is quite cloudy. When you squeeze it the the parts that pop out are quite clear and actually looks like the pictures on Amazon. So this is not the prettiest thing to have sitting on your desk. I am including a photo which actually looks brighter than the actual ball because of the flash.But it is fun to squish this ball and I think I will enjoy it as well as young visitors to my house.
