## Description

From the Manufacturer In addition to offering modern convenience, the Set & Forget Programmable Slow Cooker has three choices for easy, automatic cooking: program, probe and manual mode. On busy days, program the cooking time and Set & Forget Slow Cooker automatically shifts to keep warm when the cooking time is up. Cooking a large cut of meat like pot roast, chicken, or pork tenderloin? Insert the probe, set the desired meat temperature and the Set & Forget Slow Cooker automatically shifts to keep warm when the temperature is reached. For traditional slow cooking, manually select the high, low or warm temperature without setting a cooking time.

Review: I Still Love my Old Crockpot Brand from the 80's... but this is my NEW go to cooker! - I LOVE My new Slow Cooker! I have a much older crockpot brand slow cooker that I love. It is a tank and I am its third long-term owner (its been passed through family). However, now that my kids are a little older and I am on the go much more, I found myself wishing that I had programmable slow cooker that could shut off if I didn't make it home as expected. I was also in the market for a second one for entertaining or bulk cooking anyway, so I took the plunge. This has become the main slow cooker in our house. I still use my oldie when I need to have both going at once, but this new one has so many conveniences that I've gotten used to. I didn't think I would use the temp probe, but I do! I also love the latching lid, because I travel pretty often with it. The best part of course, is that I can set it to finish cooking after "x" hours and it will automatically switch to warm, which has helped me out on more than one occasion when a kid runs late. It helps the most on gym nights. I set it, forget it and run to meet my husband at the gym after work - and get home to a full meal, perfectly cooked and piping hot. I also have found that this cooks far more evenly and consistently than my old slowcooker, I never get burnt edges here. Perhaps because of the timer or maybe the crock was just getting old? Either way, it took me a month to finally choose one, and I am glad I chose this! It also looks far more modern than puke cream with puke green flowers ;)
Review: Changed my Perception of Pork Chops - We've been wanting to make slow cooker dishes for quite some time, but have only had a small, cheap slow cooker up until now. After doing a lot of research, we selected this one as a Christmas gift to each other. First, the unit itself: It's very attractive with a polished metal body, a touch pad with digital display, heavy ceramic insert, and metal handles with plastic grips. The included utensil with a holder molded into the cover's handle is a nice touch. Overall, it feels like a quality appliance that looks nice on the counter should you choose to leave it out (we do). It has 3 settings: Warm, Low, and High. You can program it to use the included thermometer to cook until it reaches the desired temperature, or set a timer. It's first job was on on the day we opened it. We made a sausage lasagna sauce the cooked for 2 hours on High. It came out delicious (as did the whole lasagna). It's second task was to slow cook a hamburger/rotel Queso dip, which came out great and after we were done using as dip, we made a delicious Mac & Cheese with the leftovers. This took roughly 3 hours to make. It's first real slow cooker meal is one I've been eager to try for a while: Pork Chops. When I was younger we used to have pork chops every few weeks, and I never looked forward to it, as they were always tough. I've tried making Pork chops a couple times more recently, but although they tested good, they still weren't very tender. This time around I elected for bone-in center cut pork chops. They cooked for 6 hours on Low and 1 hour on High. The recipe used Fresh mined garlic, ketchup, brown sugar, a bit of chili paste, and some corn starch near the end to thicken the sauce up. It tasted amazing and was so tender the pork chops were falling apart as we removed them from the cooker. Now I can actually look forward to pork chops for dinner, at least ones made in the slow cooker! We have so many recipes we plan to make with this, I can't wait!

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Is there a difference between the Model # 33967 and Model # 33967 A ?! Is "33967 A" maybe a newer version??**
A: Interesting...after recommending it, a friend recently asked me the same question. I couldn't see a difference, so I called Hamilton Beach to find out. I was told that they are basically the same...just different release dates. The 33967 began a release date in 2007 and the 33967A has a release date of 2013. Hope this helps.

**Q: Does the programmable mean it has a timer to set as to when to start cooking?**
A: Someone suggested using a timer. You can't use a timer with electronic controls (even if it has a manual setting). The timer will only allow or prevent power getting to the unit. However, with electronic controls, someone has to program and push the buttons, while the unit has power. If you set the program and then turn the unit off via a timer, the programming will be lost and the pot will do nothing when the timer turns on.

**Q: Is it oval or round?**
A: Oval

**Q: Does anyone know how to plug the probe opening if you choose not to use the probe? Or do you have to have it in at all times?**
A: You shouldn't need to plug the hole. Actually there are 3 holes in the lid rather than just the probe opening hole. The two rivets that hold the handle are hollow in the center and act as vent holes. I grew up with my mom using a Crock Pot. And I never remembered any vent holes on its lid, so the probe hole was something on this unit that I was wary of before buying it. But when you compare it and a Crock Pot slow cooker side by side you notice a few things. First, the Hamilton Beach uses a rubber seal gasket at the top and the Crock Pot does not. That should give the Hamilton Beach a tighter seal around lip than the Crock Pot. Also, if you look closely at the Crock Pot slow cooker, it does have venting but you probably have never realized it was there. When I looked at the ceramic bowl of my Crock Pot slow cooker, it has four indentations in the top of the bowl to allow the cooker to vent around the edges of the lid. Really in comparison, the Crock Pot probably has as much venting or more than the Hamilton Beach, but you never see people worrying about the venting or trying to block it because I think people don't really notice it because it is somewhat disguised through indentations . I would suggest not trying to block the venting on the Hamilton Beach slow cooker.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Consistent and versatile
*by A***R on June 9, 2015*

A consistent, versatile, and reliable cooker so far. I've used it 2-3 times a week for making carnitas, barbacoa, pot roast, and a chicken roaster. Always great. I've used it in manual mode (using a separate timer), programmable mode (using its own timer), and with the sensor probe. Each time the food came out great. When it first arrived, I did note the rubber smell others have mentioned. However, that has gone away now. It was just the rubber trim on the lid off-gassing, just like most plastic and rubber products do when they're new. That never got into the food, though. Never tasted a hint of it. And I could smell it only by putting my nose up to the lid directly. And I love the stoneware. This makes for easy cleanup, with a quick rinse and placement in the dishwasher. I'm hopeful for good reliability. This has been a great replacement for the decades old non-stick crockpot we had before.
