There was no discoloration, or damage. I had read in a review before buying that the hat came off fairly easy, too easy, but for me the hat is actually real sturdy; I can pick it up by the hat, have it upside down and the hat continues to stay on-holding all the contents within. The inside of the piggy is a decent size, no bigger than your average piggy-so it can hold a good amount of coins, paper cash, or whatever you want really. It's also not glass so of you plan on giving this to a child, no worries of it falling and breaking. Overall I would recommend. The hat comes off so money can be deposited and taken out.
