Review: Traditional quality - and a great smell - I have just used this putty to put an old Victorian stained glass window in to a frame, it worked extremely well. I decided to use this product rather than a modern acrylic glazing putty because it holds better and as the window is internal the birds can't peck it all out! Review: Very easy to work with as it contains linseed oil. - This was ideal for the fitting of a new pane of glass after the window in our garage door was blown shut by the wind. After I removed all the old putty and cleaned up the wood, (the longest part of the job) I used linseed oil to treat the wood then applied the putty and placed the glass against the putty. I then inserted little metal clips into the frame to help retain the glass in place while I applied the outer layer of putty. I then nailed the wooden beading in place. The putty was so easy to work with. I’m very pleased with the final result. Ps the glass I bought was safety glass and is cut by a laser. This means there are no sharp edges. I find a pair of rubber food service gloves or a pair of tight fitting marigolds are good for this task as linseed oil isn’t great on your hands and you can get in about it and really work the material. Getting the lumps out is key, but if you are struggling then my guess is that it’s been stored too long and is a bit past it. If you just bought it take it back. That said 5 minutes of working the material should sort it out even if the stuff at the bottom is pretty firm. **Q: Can my 3 year old help mixing this? I want to use it to make/decorate a few things with her** A: As I remember the product requires to be kneaded rather than mixed. It ends up a bit like a bread mix. I would keep a bowl of warm water handy for her to clean her hands and obviously make sure she keeps her hands away from her mouth as the product seems like a mixture of sand and oil. **Q: Can the product still be used if the lid was cracked and therefore exposed to air? It seems okay but the pot fell and cracked the lid in storage** A: Easy to use and my window in the shed is still in. Nothing has fallen out. **Q: Can you dye the putty? Need a reddish colour** A: Sorry no idea but, why don’t you just paint over the putty with the colour you require.
