But, could well be used straight out the protective cover.The chisels protective holder is very nice and built surprisingly well .The chisels are very solid and well built as well, I like that the steel of the chisel is running through the handle to create a head that can be used with a regular hammer. And these chisels are keeping a sharpened edge so far, and I have used on some oak. Historically they were made in England and maybe top line Irwin Marples still are but this set is now farmed out to the Chinese to manufacture. **Q: How long are these chisels?** A: Blade is 5.5" and with handle total length is 10.5" **Q: how wide are these chisels** A: 1/2",3/4", 1" **Q: I like thw fact they come with a case.. how durable is the case? Will the sharp ends cut through it?** A: the case is very durable and will protect both the chisels and whatever they would come into contact with. They also have plastic blade covers on the end of the chisel to protect you against any danger when retrieving a chisel from the case.
