So with that being said, I thing 10 bucks for 100 filters is better than 40 dollars to get the branded ones. **Q: What’s tabbed vs non-tabbed? The tiny thumb and index finger grabber at the top of the filter!?** A: The tabbed filters stick together, because they are smoother on the inside hence the need for a tab to easily to pull it open. The non-tabbed have a texture on the inside the same as the outside of the filter. I personally prefer the non-tabbed because the drip time is different on the new tabbed ones. I can still get the non-tabbed on Hario's website. It's really just a matter of preference. You may notice a difference in the taste of the brew. **Q: Are these paper filters treated with chemicals? I want to find toxic free coffee filters, hopefully, this is the one!** A: As far as processing goes, these are as minimal as they come. they're unbleached. Impart no flavors and are so durable you can reuse them (I've had to on occasion while camping). There are other options out there if you're concerned though. Several companies make hemp filters, one gal on etsy will even make them to custom fit your specifications. There are also metal options as well. I'm not sure what you mean by "toxic" though. They're made for hot extractions and are natural paper filters. Coffee folk tend to be a mite picky when it comes to off flavors in our coffees. What specifically are you concerned about? The original un-tabbed filter with the thinner paper and faster drip time is made in Japan, sold in a box, and is available only in the 40 count size. All other sizes come from one of the other two factories that are currently making Hario filters. The "crinkly bag" package of tabbed filters is made in a different factory in Japan. It's the one labelled "flexible." The material is thicker and the brew time is longer. A third kind, also tabbed, sold in shrink-wrap, is made in the Netherlands. Its brew time is longest of the three.
