This is because it is expensive to design, manufacture, deliver, and ship a high-quality product like Souper Cubes®. Quality is extremely important to us. We use food-grade silicone and steel reinforcements are thicker than other trays leading to a sturdy and durable product. In fact, most trays on the market don't include any steel-enforced rim at all. We wanted to create a true chef's grade kitchen tool, not another flimsy piece of junk that would leave you disappointed if it were to collapse spilling the fruits of your labor in the kitchen all over the floor. The quality of our tray is why a vast majority of our reviews (146/149 as of the time of writing this answer) give us 5-stars. Another thing that impacts our pricing are the fees that Amazon charges to fulfill the orders through the Amazon Prime program. For each one-pack sold, Amazon charges us the seller nearly $8 to fulfill that order. This is due to the size and weight of the tray but means that nearly half the cost of the tray goes to Amazon. We are a small family company that just sells Souper Cubes®. It’s not out small business fault that China can mass prosuce their product at a less expensive price making it more affordable for consumers. Punish the government, not our small businesses. **Q: How do these trays fare with expansion when things with a high water content (like broth) are frozen?** A: The trays have markings for measurement. If you fill to mark, the covers leave enough room for expansion. I’ve used them for several months without any issue.
