The pattern is true to the picture and beautiful, but the material is a thick stone that, while mildly absorbent, can't pick up as much as a cork or wood material would. It does make it sturdier, however. The other downside is that the bottom slides around pretty easily. I feel like this could be improved if the gold flecks were made of a different material and added on top rather than just being a part of the colored pattern - that for me might make up for some of the usability flaws.
