## Description

Rice-(Oryza sativa)-The Rice plant is a grass that can grow over 1 meter tall or 5 meter long in water. The stems are upright and are composed of a series of joint like nodes. The grain is the most economically important part that grows from each node. Rice is fun to grow and a great educational project for your kids. You don't need to grow a whole paddy. In fact you can grow quite a bit with some buckets or pots. We give you instructions on how to do this.

Review: It worked - This worked. I’m no farmer but I was able to follow the instructions and it worked
Review: The other bad reviews didn't do it right. - If you use the instructions that come with the seeds your seeds may not grow at all. So here's what I did: 1. Use the correct soil. Regular Potting soil is not sufficient for growing rice. Rice likes to grow in silt loam soil. I happen to live in an area where the native soil is silt loam, so I just dug up some out my backyard. If you don't have the same convenience, try to buy silt loam soil online/at a gardening store. 2. Don't bury the seeds. The way I set it up is I have a large pot filled about 85% full with soil and the rest of the pot is filled with water on top. (Don't use the same ratio since your pot may be bigger or slimmer than mine. Just leave ~5 inches of water on top of your soil.) Then I simply sprinkled the seeds onto the water, where they'll sink to the bottom and begin to grow. If they don't sink, I just squish them into the soil a little to keep them from rising again. There's really not much else to it. The hard part will be harvesting the rice. I'm planning to put the fully grown rice stalks in a bag and just beat it until all the rice grains come loose. To remove the shells I'll just grind them against a wooden board. Then, I'll winnow them by dropping the rice+husks in front of a fan to blow off any dirt or remaining husks. As you can see in the pictures, my method of growing rice is working perfectly well. Try it!
