## Description

Ballistol was developed for the German Army who requested an oil that would lubricate, clean, protect and preserve firearms and gun stocks as well as preserve leather gear. It is unmatched for cleaning firearms and minimizes the need for brushing and scraping barrels and chambers. It forms a protective film on the surface of metals and is capable of creeping into the finest cracks and fissures making Ballistol and excellent "penetrant" to help loosen frozen nuts and bolts. It will even protect wet surfaces! Unlike most lubricants, Ballistol emulsifies with water; when the water evaporates, Ballistol stays behind to protect the metal, plastic, wood or leather. Ballistol will keep all smooth leathers soft and moisturized (do not use on suede). It is also non-toxic and biodegradable; neither its use, disposal or decomposition will produce any byproducts that are harmful to the environment. Coca Cola and many of Germany's famous breweries use Ballistol as does Bizerba, one of the largest precision scale manufacturers, who specifies Ballistol because it never gets sticky or increases friction over time. It's also a great silver and brass polish. Human sweat and skin oils are slightly acidic; their effect is similar to the etching process. Ballistol is slightly alkaline and neutralizes this effect. Of course Ballistol is also perfect for all the household chores any normal oil will do, but why settle for a "normal" oil when you can have one product that does so much more.

Review: Ballistol does it all - I started to get in the world of firearms and one of the many opinionated things is how to keep them clean after a day at the range. I laughed when I was watching a video on youtube on how to clean a firearm with "only a few basic items" and they point out a solvent, lubricant, three different types of brushes, a precision oiler, gun grease, a bunch of tools, and warning you to be in a well ventilated area with eye protection and gloves... That's not simple! Other videos used just a can of ballistol, a tooth brush, a wire bore brush, a jag and a bunch of cotton patches. Guess which option I went for. Ballistol does it all. One of the big selling points is it's an all in one CLP (cleaner, lubricant, protectent / penetrate). Another big plus is it's eco friendly. I don't bother wearing gloves, it wipes off just fine with some soap and water. Should still wear eye protection and be in a well ventilated area but for me I just set a fan nearby to keep some air flowing around. The smell doesn't bother me at all. It just smells like any other oil really. It's one issue which can either be seen as a plus or minus is it takes a while to do it's thing. The first time I used it I ended up spraying down the barrel and having it sit for a good hour or so. But afterwards I had no issue with cleaning any of the carbon residue. I see that as a plus as I don't want something that eats away at carbon so fast you shouldn't leave it sit for extended periods of time. On a revolver I bought that was used it still looked pretty dirty. I dowsed the entire thing in ballistol, to the point I held it in the sink and let it set for several hours. Came back and was able to shine it up like new. It didn't handle the burn marks around forcing cone or front of cylinder but those are notoriously difficult to clean. Just used a small bit of carbon gun cloth and cleaned that right up. The one thing I haven't tested yet is if it reacts with the fiber optic sights. With most solvents it will cloud it. This seems like it should be safer but I haven't confirmed yet. This specific pack I found to be the most useful for me. You have more control over where you spray and the smaller size, coupled with a small cleaning kit, fits in range bag in case I ever had to clean it in the field. This is also where it's all in one ability helps as I can use it to not only clean gun but also to apply oil to the few places of a gun that needs it. The last point I want to make is the easy cleanup. Because it's water soluble it comes off pretty easy from most any surface, including hands. So far I've only used this for guns but I don't see the need to purchase anything else when it comes to around the house tasks.

The only thing you ever need for your firearms. Dohbles as a great seasonal protectant, winterizer, lubricant, etc. Does exactly as advertised, to a degree products just don't anymore. Don't ever stop making this stuff.

Many people use Ballistol as an all in one compound for firearms cleaning, lubricating and protecting (CLP). I'm old school and generally use different chemicals for each of the three applications. However, it's not practical to carry all of that stuff into the field. I keep a small can of Ballistol in my pocket in case a gun gets wet, dirty, etc. out in the wild. Ballistol cleans, lubricates and protects well enough to keep firearms running safely and reliably until the next thorough bench cleaning. It also does not degrade or stain treated steel or plastics.
