My grand daughter has a very wide foot.** A: No, do not run wide. The are true to size - standard. However, they are made to stretch and flex. The rubber around the foot has to be tight, to stay on while swimming. They are generally more difficult to get on, but excellent at staying on. **Q: How do the sizes translate to actual shoe sizes?** A: After a lot of research, it's all still trial and error. My son will be 5 in a few days. He just updated his sneaker size to Nike 12C (12 children). The XXS Finis fins are too small, but just barely. He'd be much better suited for the XS size. He has high arches and ridiculously wide feet. **Q: Why do these come covered in slimy stuff?** A: That will come off once you use it the first time or you can wash them off with some liquid detergent. It is a coating the fins come with to keep them from drying out and to keep their bright colors to look good for retail sales. It will not interfere with its wear.
