    One year later

*by H***F on Reviewed in the United States on January 20, 2019*

Over the past year the performance seems to have deteriorated. Some days it is rock solid and other days there are picture freezes and sound dropouts every minute or two. Nothing has moved and they get restarted every day. Hitting the reset button does not improve the situation. Everything is right where it was a year ago and I don't see any pattern as to what other wireless devices are on or off that might indicate interference. So there is something about the units. At this point we turn the sound on the TV room up loud so it can be heard in the kitchen. Not ideal but until I find a better product I guess I'll just live with it...Here's what I wrote a year ago.I have this to transmit only about 15 feet with one partial wall (and a large appliance) between transmitter and receiver. I also tested it on a second TV about 50 feet away and it worked pretty well there also.My Setup:The TV room with the Directv box is right next to the kitchen, where the remote TV is. The transmitter sits behind the main TV which is against the wall. The other side of the wall has a refrigerator but there is open space to the right of the TV so it is not like there is just solid wall and appliance. The other spot where I tested it is further away with another partial wall blocking direct line of site from transmitter to receiver, but there is also a large double doorway. So both spots do have ample open space for the signal to bounce around, even though the transmitter is kind of boxed in between the TV and the partial walls.Performance/IssuesThe picture on the remote TVs is excellent. Much better than the SD transmitter I've been using forever.(Color commentary: In fact, for these remote TVs I was satisfied with the SD. They are both secondary boxes and who cares if the little kitchen TV is HD? The other one only gets used in winter when we have a fire in the fireplace and want to watch some shows. But I got these because cursed Directv no longer has S-Video connectors and when it detects you are using SD cables it blocks the screen and tells you to set your TV for SD. It is incredibly annoying and there's no reason in Hell for them to do this except to just screw with me. I hate DTV but every other options sounds just as bad.)Anyway, the few issues are that:The sound is not synced perfectly on the remote TVs. It doesn't bother my wife but seeing a slight delay between the lips moving and the words coming out of someone's mouth bugs me a bit. I have found that hitting the DTV six-second rewind helps make it bearable, seems to bring it closer to being in sync. It doesn't make sense that it should, so is it my imagination that this helps? Maybe, but that's my story and I'm sticking to it.The sound on the main TV and the remote TV are also not in sync -- by a lot. When someone is working in the kitchen and someone is watching the same show on the main TV the echo will drive you up a wall. One of the TVs needs to be muted and the other have the volume loud enough to be heard in both rooms. There's no on/off switch. These run warm but not hot. Still, I don't think it is great to have something always on and always warm. Long term it can't be good for the electronics. I have these on a power strip and shut everything down when not in use. When I remember. You know how it is.The DTV box connect to the main TV through this box. If the transmitter is not on then you can't watch TV at all. Any time the TV is on the transmitter needs to be on.It takes much longer to change channels, start or stop playing recorded shows. All the DRM BS of HDMI takes longer going through the box than it did going direct to the television. It is just a few seconds but if you are used to immediate response to your inputs or you are the impatient type you may be annoyed. And if you are used to immediate response to your inputs from the remote, you are not a DTV customer. Did I mention I hate them?Having had this for a few weeks I'm cautiously ordering a second receiver for the living room TV and praying that I don't experience what at least one person here report, that over time performance degrades. (I would then feel a fool for spending $300 just to deprive DTV of the monthly fee for additional boxes and to avoid having more cables running along my walls. If things go south, I'll come back and update here.
